I've had this guitar for a couple of months. I've played many acoustic/electrics but wanted something that looked different than everybody elses. I've been a Martin player for many years and that is the sound I love. Even thought this is a HPL guitar it still has the Martin sound allthough not quite as loud. I bought it for my stage guitar and run in through a L.R. Baggs D.I. Great sound. Action is very comfortable and it looks great. Lot's of compliments. I did a few upgrades though; one is that I went to an extra light gauge of strings as I'm playing a lot of backing leads and the strings that came on it were wearing me out. The reason they came with this gauge is to give it a little more tone to make up for the lack of the solid wood tone. Just my opinion. Also put a black pick guard on it and changed out the end pins with black ones with Aboloni dots. My main Martin is a "Custom D" which is out of this world toneful. My partner plays a 40 year old D-28 and the Custom sounds much better. He just got a new HD-28 and the Custom is so close. Both the "OOOCXE" and the "Custom D" are both great buys for the money if you want the "Martin" sound. As with any purchase play several to see which one sounds the best. We play cowboy music and do cowboy poetry. I also use the CXE in our cowboy church band doing quite a few different styles.

I got this guitar for durability because I play outdoor gigs 90% of the time. For the price this should be a better guitar. The pre-amp lacks earthiness. I can't seem to get the warmth I'm after and I'm pumping though 15" mains and 18" subs. Here is the deal breaker. Sat night I used it outdoors for the 1st time. It was about 90deg F and +80% humidity. When I pulled it from the case and jacked into the system, three of the strings were buzzing because the neck shifted in the humidity. It was almost unplayable.

Amazing in Everything!

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is well worth the money! I traded in my two bass guitars and my srat for this baby. Boy, this guitar can do it all! The electronics are great on the guitar and its amazing unplugged too. The low action and fast-playing neck is what attracted me to the guitar, and it's looks!I recommend buying this guitar with all my life!

I dig it

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar to play at a wedding and this thing rocks. I put some D'Addario phosphor bronze strings on it and it was good to go. It even sounds awesome plugged in with distortion. It also gets just the right tone for a lot of John Mayer songs I play. So glad I got it

Wanted to hate it

By Nowicoach

from Woodstock, GA

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Look, I like wood. The smell, the look, everything. But when I tried this guitar I had a smirk on my face and my thought was - yeah right. I expected a cheap ovation sound but what I got was a nice bassy tone from a smallish body. I compared it to other Martin's and Taylor's three times the price and found somethings I liked better about the 000CXEBLACK. Who knew? For my style and for a traveling guitar it can't be beat.

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Love this guitar so much. It sounds so nice of course because it is a Martin. It is seriously like a dream guitar to me yet it is affordable which is amazing. Probably my favorite part about it though is the finish! It looks so sweet in real life because its flat and not glossy. Plus it doesn't scratch.

A great Martin guitar you can afford and MUST own

By Ronald Arndt

from United States

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The main thing I look for in an acoustic guitar is ease in playing on the fretboard and how close the strings are to the fretboard. This is called the "action". I tried a lot of guitars out at the center before buying this Martin and without question at this price range, ease of playing and sound it just cannot be beat. Like most of you I am a homespun guitar player who chords and plays melodies on a guitar. In other words I am not a professional. I play for personal pleasure. One of the great features on this guitar is making barre chords which because the action is close to the fretboard you don't kill your wrists or your fingers to do this. Also the sound is great from producing good bass sound on the lower strings to great treble on the upper strings and when you strum this guitar it has a full ring. Also this is not a large guitar, such as a jumbo, so it lays across your leg and waist comfortably and is LIGHT.I hate heavy guitars. The built in fishman electric adds so much to turning this guitar into an electric one and the sound is fabulous. Of course there are many good guitars out there, but I personally challenge you to find one better at this price range for ease of playing, sound and comfort. You will find yourself saying, Man I gotta have THIS guitar. And you won't be sorry.

Martin speaks for itself

By Taylor

from Bruceton Mills, WV

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Bought this guitar about 3 months ago and have been nothing but pleased. Very small guitar, but a super smooth neck and great feel. The finish is great, IT'S A MARTIN. Where you will really find this guitar amazing is when you plug it in. The sound you get when plugged in is amazing and crystal clear. Must buy and a great price for a Martin

Excellent

By That Guy

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I wanted to wait before writing a review. I received this guitar from Santa December 2008. It is now June 2010 and now that the "new"-ness is plenty gone I feel like I can write an acceptable review. First thing: if you buy this guitar be careful about putting a capo on the headstock like lots of players like to do. One of my numbers on the headstock came off. Not a big deal. Sound: This is the BEST sounding acoustic guitar I've ever heard. Unplugged, in an amp, in a PA, no matter what. Even playing at an outdoor venue last year I found it sounding far superior to my former music partner's Alvarez. Truly an amazing sounding guitar. Feel: Overall I love the action this thing had straight out of the box. I know lots of people like different feels (high strings vs. low strings) but mine required no adjustments (I'm a lowered kind of guy). Overall: I have never been this satisfied with anything. I like my wife, but I love this guitar. If you're on the fencepost stop it already and pick it up. It was so worth it. Also own a Cort acoustic (that I learned on) and a Schecter Tempest Midway Edition.

Great Sound, Playabilty, and Look... Can't ask for more

By Alex

from MA

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

A Great instrument to play on... sounds really good and looks beautiful. The action is perfect for me when I use 12 gauge strings. It is very well crafted in almost every way. One little con about this guitar is that the rosette around he sound hole fades over time especially the area the hand touches the most, other than that, it is perfect. I have absolutely zero complaints. I play mostly unplug, but when plugged into a good acoustic amp... Man... it will blow you away... If you have some savings.... I recommend this guitar. I have been buying cheaper guitars and always ended up selling them eventually to get better ones, so... if you are a serious musician or a really committed guitar hobbyist, I say save up for a good instrument, whatever it is... but I do highly recommend Martin Guitars.

WoW, thats a low price

By Sammy

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Put one in the chamber, spinned the barrel and pulled the trigger. Took a chance on the look, not for me, but the sound from this low priced light beast is astounding. You'd be in the .001 percentile if you held and played it and not felt the same. She's got the action and the moves to make you feel. You were warned

Life Changing...Seriously.

By CamRock

from Arroyo Grande, California

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is making me a better player. First of all, I have always been an electric player and when I would switch to play acoustic I just didn't enjoy it as much. Until I have tried this black beauty. And I would also like to say that I owned one of the Martin DX-1's for a few years while sounded really full and great, its playability left something to be desired. When I decided to buy this puppy I immediately got extremely excited about it and couldn't play enough of it. The low action is a huge plus and the Fishman Electronics are very good as well. From a standpoint of not knowing much about acoustic electronics, it sounds good to my ears and that seems to be the general consensus of other reviews. In short, well worth the money and anything with Martin's name on it will be a good product. Speaking for myself this makes me want to play acoustic a lot now. It's just a blast to play this thing. Cheers!

7 trips to Guitar Center...this is the one!

By Jerry B.

from Menifee, Ca

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've swung by Guitar Center 6 or 7 times and have been looking for my next guitar. I've always owned a wood guitar..but I have to say...i picked up this guitar the first time in there and it's been my favorite time and time again. The action is the most comfortable...plugged in..yep..sounds awesome and even unplugged sounds great. I will say one thing..the volume doesnt seem as loud as some others but its just fine. All in all...this is the next guitar I'm going to buy because it absolutely is the best feeling guitar I picked up and I picked them all up.

Proof is in the pudding!!

By Shane

from Thomaston, GA

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was looking for getting a Martin after playing for years. Like most guitarist im sure tried and satisfy that urg with other guitars that never measure up. One reason is because i just couldnt afford one ; ; . But after reading the reviews on this guitar and its being a great price for the guitar i went and played it at guitar center. It doesnt have the huge tone most Martins are known for but it stilled sounded amazing. And when i plugged it into an amp i was sold, it sounded 10 times better plugged in. The action is amazing on it to nice and low and the bosy i love and looks amazing. So if your looking for a guitar that will be comfy playing live and also give you the sound that only a Martin can than this guitar is within price and need for you.

The one I always come back too...

By Keith Lewchuk

from New Jersey

Comments about Martin 000CXE Black Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was casually walking around the acoustic room trying this and playing that telling myself you have 5 Taylors you love...you don't need another guitar. I found myself sitting and playing this and before I knew it more than an hour had disappeared. One of the guys at Guitar Center who has come to know me looked over smiling after about 40 minutes and said "You really like that one...it sounds sweet." I've had it for about 6 months now and out of the thousands of dollars I have in my collection of amazing guitars, I still find myself playing this the most. It's smooth, it's sweet, it's jazzy, it's bluesy. I really just love this guitar...I even bought the same "Little Martin" for travel. Don't listen to me....go play it. Just make sure you have an extra hour to lose.
