I've had this guitar for a couple of months. I've played many acoustic/electrics but wanted something that looked different than everybody elses. I've been a Martin player for many years and that is the sound I love. Even thought this is a HPL guitar it still has the Martin sound allthough not quite as loud. I bought it for my stage guitar and run in through a L.R. Baggs D.I. Great sound. Action is very comfortable and it looks great. Lot's of compliments. I did a few upgrades though; one is that I went to an extra light gauge of strings as I'm playing a lot of backing leads and the strings that came on it were wearing me out. The reason they came with this gauge is to give it a little more tone to make up for the lack of the solid wood tone. Just my opinion. Also put a black pick guard on it and changed out the end pins with black ones with Aboloni dots. My main Martin is a "Custom D" which is out of this world toneful. My partner plays a 40 year old D-28 and the Custom sounds much better. He just got a new HD-28 and the Custom is so close. Both the "OOOCXE" and the "Custom D" are both great buys for the money if you want the "Martin" sound. As with any purchase play several to see which one sounds the best. We play cowboy music and do cowboy poetry. I also use the CXE in our cowboy church band doing quite a few different styles.

I got this guitar for durability because I play outdoor gigs 90% of the time. For the price this should be a better guitar. The pre-amp lacks earthiness. I can't seem to get the warmth I'm after and I'm pumping though 15" mains and 18" subs. Here is the deal breaker. Sat night I used it outdoors for the 1st time. It was about 90deg F and +80% humidity. When I pulled it from the case and jacked into the system, three of the strings were buzzing because the neck shifted in the humidity. It was almost unplayable.

Great sound! Low Price! Best Bang For Your Buck!

By David Henderson

from West Palm Beach

First, I am not a review-leaver-type person. But I have to tell everyone how thrilled I am about my purchase of this 000CXE Martin at GC. This guitar sounds amazing!! There are only a handful of things in my life that I've purchased and didn't have "buyer's remorse". And this guitar makes the list. If I'd knew how happy I'd be with it I wouldn't have wasted 1.5 hours in GC debating whether or not to purchase it. I was a huge skeptic of the whole HPL thing but this guitar has such a great sound. Does it sound as good as a HD-28? No, of course not. But what does it matter if it sounds so great. Which leads me to the crux of the issue: If you're a very skilled guitar player then you can make this thing sing and nobody would even know (or care) that it's not an HD-28. (and you'd keep a lot of money in your wallet) And if you're not a very skilled guitar player than you shouldn't be buying a $2500+ guitar in the first place. So, buy this guitar and save your money for retirement, sonny!

2 years and it's still my favorite

By Alex Nelson

from California

I'm one of those super picky and suuuper perfectionist about my guitars. One little flaw and I won't like it. I've played many of those expensive Taylors and Martins. To give you an honest review, this is obviously not exactly like those. This guitar is a bit on the quite side, but when amplified can be very loud of course. Intonation is great right out of the box as well as action. It's bass is not boomy but is still pronounced. The mids are just right. The treble is very very clear and balanced but not brilliant, still clear though. You can solve that brilliance problem with different strings. This is the guitar I always perform with because the electronics are very good. This will always be my beloved guitar.

Sweet

By Amy Alan

from Las Vegas NV

This is a really nice Guitar.. It play's great feel's great and very forgiving.. It's nice small, light, and has good sound unpluged. Plugged in I was very surprised at how well it sounded through my PA.. I guess I should say Amazed at how well it sounds.. I have had many many Acoustic Guitar's and I feel that this is the best one I have ever had. That is saying a lot as I have had 2 American made Guild's. I did take it to my Guitar Doctor and had the action lowered and changed the strings from the 14's it comes with to 10's which I prefer.. He was really impressed with it as well saying it was super easy to adjust and that I made a good purchase that would last forever.. For the price I see no other opiton that could hold water to this Acoustic. I have a real nice Strat and an SG but I play this Martin all the time. It's hard to put it down. In fact I bought this about 2 months ago and it's the only one I have played.. Now I'm not a great Guitarest, I've been playing for years off and on but maybe an intermeadate player? Having said that I know a lot about them I started playing in the 70's and the guy who got me into them had a D-35. I loved that Guitar and have alway's wanted one. However this time I decided I wanted an Acoustic\Elec so I compaired a lot of them and came up with this one a lot because of the feed back on this site. After reading all these review's I went down the next day and played one. Looked up and almost an hour had passed by so I went ahead and bought it. I recomend this Guitar to beginner's or expert's alike... I have found NOTHING that I don't like about it!!

Unique, easy to play, sounds amazing and flows so smooth!

By Chris Thompson

from Mobile, AL

I've played this guitar twice now, inside Guitar Center both times.....they had to run me off last night as they were trying to close up. This guitar is a steal! I love the originality and uniqueness of it the most, but it also sounds great and plays really smooth. I've already purchased it and am going to pick it up this weekend....I'm freakin jacked! fyi......it is also rugged and very durable due to the materials that it is composed of....one expert informed me that this Martin is the best "beater" guitar on the market....as in, u can bang it against the wall and you won't hurt it a bit! I definitely give this product my stamp of approval!

A fingerpicker's dream

By Ryan Willard

from Sharpsburg, MD

I went into my Guitar Center hoping to trade my two beginner acoustics for something I could have for a long time. The first day I played for about two hours and of course narrowed it down to some Taylor's and this Martin. I really liked the Taylor Big Baby in particular. The next day I came down and played for another 3 hours, just trying to decide. It was agonizing. The model I was playing had some pretty high action that was concerning me, and the Taylor full body's were sounding a little fuller to me (which is expected). Ultimately an attendant brought the same model with a fingerpicking action and it really got me hooked. This guitar, while not being as powerful, is incredibly balanced. The bass notes go with he melody better than any guitar I played, including the Taylors. And the Fishman electronics on this guitar are incredible for this price. Buy it. Seriously.

Finally Got It!

By Roger Newman

from Pensacola, FL

I had played this guitar about 4 times at the store and I really liked it. I started reading reviews and watching videos of it online. I can say that it is everything that the other reviews say so far. Good action, great tone and easy to play. I haven't even plugged it in yet and I cannot wait until I do. Best acoustic I have ever owned, hands down.

BEST MARTIN DEAL OUT THERE

By kris ivan bacani

from los angeles ca

Ive been wanting to have a Martin Guitar for over 5 years now and My GF bought me one as an early Christmas present. Ive got to say, I didnt expect this baby to sound great. I have owned almost a dozen guitar, this by far blows them away, and for the price, this is a steal! I thought I'd be spending a lot to own a Martin and I thought I was about to compromise the sound if I settle for a cheaper one, but not this guitar. It has great warm tone unplugged and u can adjust the brilliance of the sound when plugged, so pretty much u can adjust the tone depending on the music that u play when it is plugged. the feel of the guitar is awesome, great action, very very comfortable when playing. Its super lightweight so you dont have to worry about traveling with it

The one I always come back too...

By Keith Lewchuk

from New Jersey

I was casually walking around the acoustic room trying this and playing that telling myself you have 5 Taylors you love...you don't need another guitar. I found myself sitting and playing this and before I knew it more than an hour had disappeared. One of the guys at Guitar Center who has come to know me looked over smiling after about 40 minutes and said "You really like that one...it sounds sweet." I've had it for about 6 months now and out of the thousands of dollars I have in my collection of amazing guitars, I still find myself playing this the most. It's smooth, it's sweet, it's jazzy, it's bluesy. I really just love this guitar...I even bought the same "Little Martin" for travel. Don't listen to me....go play it. Just make sure you have an extra hour to lose.

Awesome Guitar

By Micah

from Houston TX

This was my first guitar and I have had it for about 3.5 years. I have since purchased two more guitars and this is still my favorite to play. The sound is incredible, stays in tune, and the response in unreal. I HIGHLY recommend this guitar to anyone.
