A bold and beautiful lefty Martin dreadnought.

Martin has always made prudent use of natural resources, especially rare or endangered tonewoods. At the same time, it's committed to building guitars of superior tone and playability that are affordable to every guitarist. This left-handed Martin guitar from the X Series more than meets both of these criteria.

Martin guitars from the X series feature patented high pressure laminate (HPL) back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top, patented mortise and tenon neck construction, and professionally installed Fishman electronics. The result: great-sounding, great-playing guitars, that are environmentally friendly, and priced to fly out the door. This is one of Martin's best values ever. The X Series affirms Martin's commitment to providing an affordable and competitive option to players dedicated to live performance.

The 6-string Martin DX1AE lefty acoustic-electric guitar features a D-14 platform, a dreadnought guitar body design producing big, round sound. Pairing the Sitka spruce top with the mahogany-pattern HPL back and sides, the Martin DX1AE guitar belts out rich clarity and plenty of projection. The mortise and tennon neck joint ensures solid construction of the instrument, with optimal resonant tone, while eliminating drop-off in the finer dynamics.

The Martin DX1AE guitar's stratabond neck is a multilayered wood creation, bonding layers of wood under extremely high pressure. The material is then carved and finished in a conventional manner. The end result is a very strong neck that provides definition and articulate sustain from note to note.

The left-handed Martin guitar's modified low oval neck shape, 25.4" scale, 1-11/16" nut width, and 16" radius provide comfort and dexterity when performing intricate movements and progressions along the black Richlite fretboard.

This Martin X Series guitar features proven Sonicore pick-up technology with the Fishman Sonitone system featuring "easy access" volume and tone controls conveniently and strategically located just inside the sound hole.

Dressed in a satin finish and featuring chrome tuners, chrome hardware, this left-handed guitar has the look and sound of a highly collectible Martin, but goes for a price that anyone can afford. Embrace the dream of owning your very own Martin DX1AE guitar, at a price that is too good to pass up.

All X Series guitars arrive stage ready-just plug them in and play. This Martin guitar also includes a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

  • love.

As reviewed by Matt Miller on 3/22/2012

I played cheap laminate acoustics for two years and just couldn't handle it anymore. My playing had far surpassed a level these guitars could support. Now, working a minimum wage job, getting a $1000+ guitar was simply out of the question. I visited GC (the closest GC is sort of a long trip from my home) a few times over the course of a few weeks trying to decide the acoustic I absolutely wanted to buy. Each visit this guitar just stuck in my mind. I thought about it a lot. I had to play higher priced acoustics in the little fancy acoustic room and this matched several of them and even bested some of them. It is an absolutely amazing guitar, and its poor teenager friendly. I absolutely love it and can play it for hours and hours. Oh yeah, and it smells incredible.

  • All it needs is set up

As reviewed by Mark on 4/27/2015

I'm the same guy who wrote a 1 star review that it buzzes. The first DX1AE I bought needed set up or tuned with an allen wrench the tress rod which straightens the neck back. That took out most of the buzzing, but I wasn't 100% happy with the sound. So they ordered the same maodel and it was shipped to my house. I noticed it was buzzing too. So I called up GC and they said it needs set up. So I took it in and they set it up and I was finally 100% happy. So if you ever buy a new guitar look for buzzing, and have the guitar mechanic to set it up. If you get a guitar that is shipped to you especially look for buzzing. Once I did that I had myself a great guitar at a great price.

  • It buzzes

As reviewed by Mark on 4/15/2015

When I played this left handed guitar (DX1AE) I didn't notice the buzzing right away, but once I started playing it for a while I noticed it. Buzzing is when your guitar kind of rattles and it can mean that the neck is bowed. It doesn't always buzz, for light chords its fine, but in certain spots it'll buzz. So I thought I'd take it back and get a new one or see if they could fix it. They didn't have another one in stock and they couldn't fix it to where I was 100% happy. It didn't take much for it to buzz either. So I ordered one through the mail. The same one, DX1AE. When I received it I found out it buzzes too. The same kind of buzz. I expect much more from Martin. The X Series is made in Mexico. I don't know if that is the reason or not. So I'm going to get a different model, and I'll probably have to pay more.
