  • Not just better looking - amazing sound too

As reviewed by Carl on 2/13/2008

I intended to buy a D-28/35 or HD-28/35. After trying these 4 models, I eliminated the D-28 since the HD-28 and D-35 sounded much better. The HD-35 really boomed but seemed too much for fingerpicking. I really did not want a D-4x model since I thought the headplate, gold tuners and abalone were the only upgrades and the guitar was only a decorated HD-28. Once I strummed the D-40 (now discontinued but same as D-41 without the outer inlay on the front), I could not believe the difference. It was much clearer and every string seemed to ring. The 28s and 35s seemed muddy in comparison. It also was well balanced and suited to both strumming and picking. I bought it on the spot. I am still in love with the sound (and it doesn't look bad either).

  • Owning This Guitar Proves There Is A God

As reviewed by DAVID GRUNDY on 7/9/2013

I don't know where to start describing this instrument, except to say that I'm dead serious when I say that this proves to me there is a God who must love me. The sound is unbelievably sweet, each string has perfect clarity, yet the balance is perfect, unlike some guitars like my Martin D-15. (The D-15 is amazing too, but the mid-range is very pronounced while the bass is a little too subtle and muddy). My D-41 has the clear, authoritative bass of rosewood without being boomy. My teacher plays a Santa Cruz Tony Rice model and we often note that the guitars have a very similar sound. I don't know if I got lucky or what but the action is unbelievable. With .10 gauge strings, it is almost as easy as an electric. I worried that the bling would be too much, but when I actually opened it, I was blown away by the beauty and exquisite workmanship and artistry. Sometimes you forget how beautiful it really is until you see someone else play it (which you won't let happen often). One other thing I'll mention - I don't know if I'm the only one like this but I've noticed that I can pick up a guitar one day and be amazed with the sound and then play the exact same one a few days later and wonder what I ever heard before to make me like it so much. My D-41 is not like that. It is sweet and pure and balanced every time I play it. If you can swing the money, it really is worth it.

  • Gorgeous and Great Tone!

As reviewed by Stephen Wagner on 12/3/2012

Fresh out of the box- a gem -the aroma of the finish with some fresh saw dust from Nazareth PA. Punchy, bright, deep tone with a warm sustain. Simply great craftsmanship. Superb action - as easy to play as a Les Paul. I love my new D41!
