The Martin MMV Solid Top Dreadnought Rosewood/Sitka Acoustic Guitar is a dream come true. A solid Sitka spruce top, solid East Indian Rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck and ebony fretboard is what many would call the perfect combination of woods for the acoustic guitar. The renowned Martin X-bracing makes the most of what these tonewoods can do.

Featuring a deluxe 19-ply rosette, gold tuners, and white binding, this guitar looks as good as it sounds. The nitro-cellulose gloss finish both protects and allows the guitar to get better with age.

An Incredible Martin

I got this guitar as a Christmas gift last year and this is one of the best martins I've ever laid my hands on. This guitar has the same features of other Martins twice the price such as rosewood back and sides, sitka spruce top, ebony fingerboard, mahogany neck, and so on. Really the only difference between this Martin and a more expensive D-28 is the tuners (which I have had no problems with) and other features like the trim and inlay. I have played a D-28 and there is no difference between the amazing sound and playability of both guitars. This is a great martin for anyone looking for an incredible guitar at a great value.

The one to get!

After deciding that I wanted to get an acoustic to complement my electrics, and basically just wanting something that was lighter and more portable so I could noodle on the couch or on my evening backyard solo performances, I settled on a budget of about $1000.00 and went to the store. I agonized for about a month trying every single Taylor and Martin guitar I could find for around that much. I found the Taylor 310 to be a bit jangly and undestinctive. The Martins were a little more complex sounding, but seemed to get muddy when pushed. When I picked this one up, it became obvious that it had features that were more like ones found on instruments at twice the price. Ebony fretboard, solid rosewood body, spruce top, mahogany neck, and so on. It also felt substantial in my hands. Not to mention, It was pretty. I took it home and I've been amazed by it. I can't help picking it up everytime I walk by it because it sounds so amazing. The bass is tight and booms. It sounds crystal clear when either strummed or picked, and it has a very warm and rich tone. It also has an amazing scent from the rosewood that I can only describe as haunting. Get this guitar, you will not be disappointed.

The best value high-end guitar

The MMV is simply the best value quality guitar you can buy. It has the finest solid wood combinations, the same as a D28. The only difference is this guitar was custom-made by Martin exclusively for Guitar Centre. It looks simple, yet classy. The neck feels just right. But most importantly, the sound of this guitar is awesome. It is very much the "big" Martin sound, but with enough bite in the mids and trebles to keep it from being too muddy. It is a formidable guitar for the recording studio, giving a rich, full sound on its own. For the live situation, I can tell you that, fitted with a Fishman Natural 1 pick-up, I have yet to hear a guitar on stage that sounds better. There is no doubt that there are vintage guitars out there that no new guitar can compete with in terms of sound. But the sound of my MMV is already opening up after one year. For those who cannot afford 30-year-old classics, or who want to own a guitar from new, this guitar is a guitar of choice. I would not be surprised if, in 30 year's time, the Martin custom MMV becomes a much-sought-after vintage guitar. It is certainly a guitar you could happily keep for life.

This is a high end D16

While some of these sound great, it is essentially a D16GRT with an ebony fingerboard and bridge rather than Micarta. Positives - some of them sound as good as standard D28s. Negatives - They don't have the D28 bracing and will not hold their value or apprecitate as a D28 will. I played a number of these and was interested in how they differed from a standard D28 at a significantly lower cost. After a number of failed attempts, I uncovered the specs and confirmed it with a Martin rep. I'd rather negotiate on a 'real' D28 or better yet a 28HD.

Sounds awesome!

I got this guitar as a gift from my wife last year. Excellent tone - fingerpicked or strummed. Unbelievable value. Perfect combination of tone woods. This guitar is perfect.
