  • Good Strings, Poor Size

As reviewed by Dulcimerist on 9/7/2006

These were among the first string sets that I used on my dulcimers, but this is a poor choice of string sizes for a typical dulcimer. While the two .012 gauge strings are ideal for the melody strings, the .022 wound string is too light for the bass string. The light gauge makes the bass string prone to buzzing and other problems. The wound bass string also produces an annoying squeak, and a dulcimer player would be much better off with a .024 gauge phosphor-bronze flat-wound string in its place. Dulcimer players would be much happier skipping these string sets, individually purchasing each string they need for their particular instrument. I've been playing the mountain dulcimer for over 21 years, own four dulcimers, and will always purchase my strings individually.
