  • Good strings but will keep searching.

As reviewed by Matthew Gould on 3/30/2013

First, I had no experience with the strings breaking. Now then - these strings are definitely a good bang for your buck. The '13s sound nice and they play great. The lightest three strings still sounded great after the first week, but the thickest three strings didn't have the "boomy" qualities that I was looking for to really carry that bass end. My acoustic has rosewood back and sides, so filling in the bass end is a big deal to me - especially at gigs. However, the strings play very well and these strings have very little string talk as compare to other strings that I've tried. Overall, these are a good set of strings.

  • Good strings at a great price...can't go wrong!!!!

As reviewed by DANIEL LAGER on 4/27/2012

I bought 15 packs of these strings on sale for $3.50/pack for my worship leader who plays with no pic... Now, the other reviewer on here said that the strings broke and went out of tune blah, blah, blah... FIRST: if you don't know how to install strings and wind them to tight they WILL break, everyone has done this at least ONCE but eventually you learn to either recognize the tone/pitch of the string you're replacing by ear or you keep a tuner handy SECOND: Once you have correctly installed the string you MUST STRETCH the strings or they will continue to do this on their own as you play. Put a finger down on the string in question with your other hand grab the same string around the twelfth fret, pull it up a half inch or so (so that it's taunt but not like you're trying to break it) and move your hand up and down while holding the string. Repeat this process on every string, retune and repeat if needed!!! My church plays contemporary praise and worship type music that gets VERY amped up at time and my worship leader doesn't play with a pic. Because he's strumming with his hands and isn't a professional virtuoso concert guitar player he can pound on the strings pretty hard when we get going and the Martin strings not only sound fantastic but they seem to take quite a beating at least twice a week and stay in tune and not break. The guitar they're on only gets played twice a week and then sits in church as he has one at home to jam on but the string life seems to be right up there with every other string. I fee confident that as long as you know how to install the strings without breaking them and stretch them out, you will have no issues as the first reviewer mentioned. Martin is a reputable company with YEARS of making high quality durable and great lasting products and this, in my opinion, as includes the strings they manufacture, specifically the ones you're currently looking at. I've played elixir's and all the other coated strings in the past and while they do tend to last a bit longer I don't believe they maintain that clear "new-string" chime and warmth 2-3 times longer to justify the price being 2-3 times more and they certainly do sound MUCH duller as the sound of a string comes from the actual metal of the vibrating string and putting a coat over that will ALWAYS cause the reverberation to decrease. Again, I got these at a KILLER price, they sound good, are durable, sound great and I would recommend them in a heart beat to anyone!!!

  • Worthless

As reviewed by Nick Akhmetov on 1/2/2011

This piece of crap broke on my first day of trying to wind it. The second and first strings DO NOT WORK. First, they switch tone like a friggin' whammy bar, then, when they're finally rising to their proper note, it snaps. I have restrung my guitar before, and I've NEVER had such horrible strings to do it with.
