The Martin GPCPA4 Acoustic-Electric Guitar has a grand performance style body constructed with solid tonewoods. The back and sides are matched from African sapele, similar in appearance and tone to mahogany. Bookmatched Sitka spruce soundboards utilize Martin's Hybrid "A-Frame" scalloped bracing.
The GPCPA4 features a slim, more parallel taper at the 12th fret, allowing for a more comfortable playing width up the neck. The bridge spacing is also modified to 2 3/16" – splitting the difference between Martin's two traditional spacings.
Along with the look, feel, and enhanced performance of Martin's existing Performing Artist Series models, the GPCPA4 has the new, simplified Fishman F1 Analog electronics system.

I went in GC looking to buy a solid wood guitar around $700. I was looking at the solid woods by Takamine, Epiphone, and others in that price range. I wasn't exactly impressed with the tones from those guitars. They aren't bad guitars, but for $700 I didn't think those were worth the money. Then I asked a GC employee and he showed me many other solid wood guitars that were around/a little above that price range. When it came to this Martin GPCPA4, I was literally blown away by the wonderful deep tone. Yes, this guitar is a little more expensive than what I intially thought I was willing to spend, but it is way less than the high-end solid wood guitars. And to be honest, the difference in tone between this and the more expensive guitars doesn't justify the drastic price difference; however the difference in tone between this and the lower-end solid wood guitars is definitely justifiable. You simply can not beat the quality, craftsmanship, or tone for the price. I highly recommend this guitar.
I bought this guitar to play out with at open mics and acoustic gigs...First off it really feels like a Taylor when you pick it up..and thats a good thing, I love Taylor playability but their guitars in this body style are just too bright for me...I own a Taylor DN3 which is well balanced..The electronics are super simple ( aura analog vs F1)..its really plug and play. The guitar turns into a Martin the minute you strum your first chord..nice and warm. GREAT tone. So Taylor playability and Martin tone = perfect guitar..Fit and finish is top notch and for the price I challenge you to find a better deal..Taylor's version is several hundred dollars more..The only way you dont like it is your a Taylor drone or an obsessed Martin traditionalist who cant live with a Martin guitar that looks like a Taylor..lol p.s. the new PA series neck is so amazing I might just save up for the 28 with the new neck..
I've had my eye on the Taylor 414CE but after playing it, along with the 514 against this Martin... all I can say is that Martin got this one right! I've always shied away from the Martins because of the heavier sound and action. They produced this model as competition for the Taylor's and did a wonderful job. I did quite a bit of research on it before buying, but playing this guitar was just a joy. The action on the neck was light, as though my fingers were dancing, and being a finger picker, this is important for smooth transitions and odd combos and riffs.. It just played and felt better than the T's... and the sound sold me... full, bold, and bright. Great mid and lower ranges. The T's still sounded good, but less volume, and response. I took this one home with a great deal during the 4th of July sale. Well worth it. Looking forward to many years with this GPCPA4...
