The Martin DRS1 Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar marks the return of Martin's Road Series, which was originally introduced in 2001, designed for working and traveling guitarists on a modest budget, who require their instrument to be durable without giving up the quality of its sound.
The top, back and sides are crafted of solid sapele and braced for resonance and projection. The DRS1 neck is built with multilaminate Stratabond for extra rigidity and durability, and the belly bridge and fingerboard are made of Richlite that achieves a similar look to ebony.
This DRS1 comes equipped with the Fishman Sonitone sound reinforcement system, which has a preamp mounted in the soundhole with rotary controls for volume and tone. The Sonitone is powered by a 9 volt battery and has an end-pin jack.

I was Looking for a reasonable priced great sounding acoustic, as I started test them out my head was spinning with all the choices. I settled on The Taylor GS mini. Great sounding Guitar Fairly priced. But as I played it a little more, I didn't like the smaller scale. So I went back tested some more, and settled on a equal priced Takamine Acoustic Electric, but unplugged it didn't sound as good as the Taylor I just traded for. Frustration was starting to set in. Went back to Guitar Center and seen the Martin...."Where has this been?" I asked. "Just got them in" the sales rep replied. The looks caught my eye right away, Beautiful Guitar. As i started to play, I noticed unplugged it sounded better and was easier to play then the Taylor Mini, and Plugged in It sounded better then the Takamine. So with a few more bucks out of Pocket, I found a Real winner. Great Looking, Great sounding Guitar! couldn't be more Pleased with this choice.
Although the price is not what you would expect for a quality Martin, the sound is excellant. It is a very well made guitar. I was excited when I found out this guitar was available and once I got it was very happy abut the decision to buy it, snd with a hardshell case. I was not excited about the black pickguard because it very quickly filled up with all the scratches from the pick so I replaced it with a vintage old style Delmar Tortoise pickguard that really brought out the color of the sapele wood. I love it and I find I play it more than I do my D-41 and the Fishman Sonitone is great. Buy it--you'll love it
I set out to buy an acoustic looking for something under a thousand bucks. At first I was looking at Taylors but noticed that the low end on lower end taylor guitars is horrible. I quickly realized that martins were the way to go, the chords are much fuller and really resonate more. I was also reluctant to buy a guitar with a pickup due to how it would hurt the tone, but the fishman pickup dosen't effect the tone at all and makes it sound great plugged in. Now I can have a great sounding guitar and run around the stage like a true rock and roller should. Great guitar, in my opinion probably the best under a thousand dollars.
