Crafted to evoke the same powerful tone and sonorous projection as a pre-WWII D-28, the Martin D-28 Marquis Acoustic Guitar differs only by using the much less scarce, and therefore more affordable, Indian rosewood instead of Brazilian rosewood. Using only premium-grade solid Indian rosewood for the back and sides and a solid Adirondack spruce top, the Marquis Guitar delivers powerful sounds with scalloped Adirondack spruce braces and forward-shifted X-bracing. A special aging toner gives the wood a vintage countenance.
The list of historically accurate details, nearly overwhelming and totally exhaustive, captures the authentic spirit of the Martin D-28: mahogany blocks/dovetail neck joint construction, slot-through saddle, herringbone binding, neck dart, zipper back marquetry, ivoroid binding, herringbone top trim, Waverly butterbean tuners, and old-style wood fiber rosette.
The Martin D-28 Marquis also has a beveled and polished tortoise pickguard; ebony bridge with long saddle; modified V-shaped neck; ebony fretboard (1-3/4" nut, 25-2/5" scale) with diamond and square inlays; and fossil ivory nut, saddle, and bridgepins (with black dots).
The Martin D-28 Marquis Acoustic Guitar is a lovingly crafted Indian rosewood version of the discontinued D-28GE.

After playing most of the high end Martins there was one that stands out with great tone and volume! I had Guitar Center order my D-28 Marquis fresh from the factory. Within three days they called and let me open the factory shipped box and then the 545 Geib style case and there was my "Banjo Killer" D-28 Marquis with light sawdust still covering the jewel. Anxious to hear, I was awed at the sound. Right out of the box this guitar explodes with sound. Factory set up is great for flat-picking bluegrass. In my opinion the pre war specifications of the scalloped bracing and the Adirondack top produce this volume. Of course there is the legendary Martin "punch" of the low and mid range. I had 30 days to carefully explore all aspects of sound, sight, and craftsmanship of this instrument, and if I found I was not happy with this particular guitar they would send and get another. I was extremely happy with this one. I did not need that service. At my first "jam" we attended I had the banjo player picking harder than he ever had too to try and overpower the sound of this guitar. It may have been a tie , but he's workin harder than I had to! I do recommend this model, and I believe it will appreciate in due time. Play and listen to all the high end guitars you can but don't buy till you play and hear this model. The only regret that I have is that I didn't purchase this guitar 25 years earlier.
This guitar is the killer. Not only does it have amazing volume and punch, it has the sweetest tones. Worthy of the likes of CSNY, Clapton, etc. I use Elixir phosphor bronze lights and it sings like a choir of angels!
