  • Amazing guitar with the perfect sound for me.

As reviewed by Matthew Machusick on 10/17/2013

I decided it was time to replace my acoustic guitar that I've had for 20 yrs. It just isn't cutting it anymore. I started out with a budget much lower than the GPCPA4. I went out and played as many guitars as I could find from a range of prices. At first it was overwhelming trying to compare and contrast all the options...but slowly I narrowed in on the shape, style, size, and woods that I liked. The first model i liked was a Taylor 210CE. Then it was a Martin GPCPA5. But i wasn't sure. Until a salesmen put the GPCPA4-Rosewood in my hand. After the first note, I knew it was the guitar for me. The tone, feel, sound, style and look were just what I wanted. The only problem was the price tag...way over my budget. So I continued the search, but couldn't duplicate the sound. So I hemmed and hawed, sold a bunch of stuff on Ebay and craigslist and clicked buy. So far (~1 month) I'm convinced its worth every penny. The quality, sound, feel and tone are great. Plus its made in my home state (which means a lot to me). Features: the electronics sound good, close to the acoustic sound, not perfect but good enough for me. It comes with an awesome case. I like the placement of the battery, the strap buttons, and controls. Quality & Reliability: Seems good so far. Look & Feel: To me it looks great. The spruce top is bright and smooth. The rosewood is deep and rich. The finish is light and not overly glossy. Overall its a classic look, not fancy or flashy, just solid and smooth. Overall, it is the sound/tone that sold me. The rosewood sounds full, rich and smooth. I play bass guitar also and I wanted a full bass sound for my guitar. The rosewood really helps with the bass (as does the size/shape of the guitar). But it doesn't stop there. The mids and treble sound clear and precise. They don't get drowned out. More than anything the guitar doesn't sound tinny or metallic...I hate that metallic sound of some guitars. this one does't sound metallic its full and rich. Loving it.

  • As the owner of both Taylor 416ce & Martin GPCPA4 RW

As reviewed by david on 12/9/2014

I've purchased taylor 416ce a year ago, loved the complex sound of Ovangkol wood and the similarity of the sound to rosewood bodies. Just two weeks ago, I cam to learn about the GPCPA4 Rosewood, and obviously the Martin guitars are better deals regarding its price. I walked into a near Guitar Center, played it, loved it. The rosewood sounded just as I wanted. Very complex, not too much bass punch, distinct high sounds. Overall extremely warm sounding guitar without too much depth as Mahogany woods. (I personally think mahogany woods produce sounds that are too dull) I asked the guitar center guy whether if they have new stock of GPCPA4 RW, and fortunately they had one. I had to play it to see how it sounds, feels, etc. I was very fortunate in that the new guitar sounded way better than the displayed one, so I decided to purchase on the spot. Taylor 416ce offers rosewood-like wood, while Martin offered the real Indian rosewood. Both were solid body guitars Martin was around $400 cheaper than Taylor 416ce (and obviously after adding tax the difference would be slightly larger) My opinion, as the owner of both taylor 416ce and GPCPA4 RW, I would recommend going with the GPCPA4 RW. If you're looking for the rosewood sound, why not go with the real rosewood rather than a "similar" one, and pay less? Walk into your nearest guitar shop and give each a try.

  • Only a Martin

As reviewed by pepper on 10/7/2014

Some People may think I'm ( and some of My Friends that Play Martins ) a Martin snob .... LoL OK ... Maybe I am but I've been a Guitarist for 51 years now and own a few ( My Wife says too many ) Guitars. I've played them all I believe and Martins are by far the very best. I just last Feb. bought a New Martin GPCPA-4 Rosewood and I LOVE IT !!!! The neck feels like My David Gilmour Strat, the tone is surely Martin and the Electronics are great. Like a real Musician, I'm not made of Money and this Guitar Plays and sounds like it should cost 3 X's the price. Maybe I shouldn't say that but If You are truly serious about Your Music as I am, My Friends .... This Guitar is for YOU ... Hands down the best working Mans Guitar. I'm a Studio/Session Guitarist and I'm very happy to have this Axe in My arsonal..... ~Pepper Roberts~
