A phenomenal price for a solid-rosewood guitar!

While the simple appointments, understated satin finish, and modest price of this Martin Custom D Acoustic Guitar are reminiscent of the 15 Series guitars of the 1940s, this model trades vintage all-mahogany construction for a select solid Sitka spruce top and the ringing punch and sustain of solid East Indian rosewood back and sides. The solid mahogany neck is also satin finished for fast, comfortable play.

  • Sounds Warm and Woody and Smells sooo Goody!

As reviewed by Dave on 12/17/2010

Bought mine used in Sept. It's a 2004 model and has aged well in 6 years. I've owned a few Martins (all the lower to intermediate price models) and can't say enough about the superior quality of workmanship! The biggest difference between Mahagony and Rosewood (to my ears) is the greater bass response of the latter. My Custom D can even get a little boomy if played hard with a pick. I love the satin finish--let's the guitar breathe. Overall a great guitar for the price which matches up well against any D28--it's just not as pretty.

  • Great for the Blues

As reviewed by Guitarfan on 6/6/2010

I went in looking for a great finger picking guitar for some Country Blues. Tried a bunch from Gibbys, to other Martins, Taylors and a bunch of cheaper stuff. Taylors, while nice had tone too modern for me. the Gibbys were nice but too expensive for what they had to offer. The cheap guitars were a joke once I played the high end stuff. The Martins were all nice and I really liked the 000-18, but could not afford it. I saw the ugly lowly 15 series in the corner so I gave them a try. Instantly, I knew this was the guitar for me. The tone was exactly what I was looking for. It is warm, woody, with a twang of mahogany that really leaves an impression. I tried the D15 and the 000-15. The D15 has more of a low end providing a louder bass while the 000-15 is more balanced. I ended up taking the 000-15 home mainly for comfort, but the D15 sure was great.
