This Martin Custom D Classic Acoustic Guitar is the real deal and a real steal. Crafted with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides, the mahogany Custom D guitar also has a tortoise binding, modified low-oval mahogany neck with a mortise-and-tenon joint and adjustable truss rod. Solid Indian rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and inlaid single-ring rosette complete this Martin guitar. The mahogany body on the Custom D guitar is much lighter in weight than rosewood, koa, or maple and yields a surprisingly strong, loud sound with an emphasis on clear, bright, airy trebles. I love the sound and the action of this guitar. Easy to play and great sound so I have been playing a lot more lately. It is great value and beautifully crafted instrument. The case is also excellent and substantial.
I am an independent recording artist and touring musician. I have this model Martin and I bought mine used from Guitar Center. the first thing you are going to want to buy for this guitar is a hard shell case, a humidifier, a capo a tuner and couple sets of strings and a string winder and get some picks a strap and if you do not want to drill holes on your martin get the Martin leather piece with the strap button on it. All those things you will need because once you start playing you will not want to put it down. But when you do put it down you will want to put it in the case and put the humidifier in there if you live in a dry climate area. Consult your sales person for all the goodies they are the best and make sure you get these things. Also get a polishing cloth or 2 and if you are like me get some lem oil and don't be afraid to use it on the finger board and bridge. OK, now for the good stuff. I have a woody type pickup that I use but you can mic this guitar or have any number of pickups installed. If you are playing a bluegrass jam outside like do a lot, you will be in for a treat. This is one great sounding guitar and as it ages it will sound better. I play mine without a pickup and with a mic and sometimes that woody pickup. Either way it is a work horse. i recorded an album with this guitar and I have done lots of shows and videos with this guitar. I would have it set up before leaving the store unless you are able to do this your self but have it done. This guitar will sound as good as a high dollar Martin without the cost and it is made in the same factory too. Once you play one of these babies you will be in love with it. Worth every penny you pay for it. This model is my main guitar and I will have another one.
This is everything I had hoped for and more! While I am not good enough yet to go for the big boy, this is going to get me there! I love the tone, look and feel. I had to have this shipped in, and I am so glad I did-it's way more than I expected! Martin quality through and through.
