This head is really cool. One of the reasons to why i think it is awesome is beacause of these few reasons: The Price, The Quality, The Amount Of Watts(100 W.), The Built In Affects, The Amount Of Channels, and a lot of other reasons. But out of all of the things that i have said that i liked, my absolute favorite is the built in affects. Now my 2 favorite effects are the Chorus effect, and the Phaser effect. The amazing thing is that not only could you edit the effects but you could also store and save the effect. And not only that but there are also 2 settings, and those are the user and the preset settings. Now with the user settings you could edit and store the effects. Now with the preset settings, you could just jam out with out having to edit anything. So i highly recomend getting this head.

What's good about it: It's 100 watts, it's a Marshall, and it's classically good looking (other than the "splatter" 100hfx logo near the power button). What's not so good about it: The gain, the tone, and the effects. The review: There's just something missing. Sure it's 100 watts, has a marshall logo, and can get really loud, but that's all you really get. No matter how much you adjust all of the knobs (trust me, you will), you can't seem to get the tone you want. Here's the best way I can describe the sound... If you've ever played guitar while your ears are ringing... you know that muffled sound you hear? That's exactly what this sounds like at any volume. When you crank up the gain, beware of the feedback you'll get. I thought this was just a problem with my humbuckered telecaster, but found it to happen with all of my guitars, single coil or humbucker. Pinch harmonics do exist, but they're not the sound you remember. They instead are more like pinch "doinks" (that's the best way I can describe the sound). The clean channel is probably the best sounding channel the amp has, but that's not saying much. If you're looking for a practice amp, then get something smaller and with better tone. If you're looking for a gig amp, save up a little more and get something else. PLAY BEFORE YOU BUY! I MADE THE MISTAKE OF BUYING THIS ONLINE WITHOUT PLAYING IT FIRST AND WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED.

Great Amp for a Great Price

By Matt Passow

from Los Angeles CA

This amp rocks. It's loud and sounds awesome. I love this amp. The clean sounds good. The gain sounds good. No complaints. Even got the marshall 4 way footswitch for free. I saw another review on here stating how they didn't get their footswitch. I got mine although I did have to call Marshall and ask where it was, but I finally got it. Couldn't be happier

Not too bad.

By Jeff L.

THE BAD. I've had this amp for 7 months and have used it on a few gigs. My first problem I had was within 4 months of light use, one of the buttons on the footswitch (Two buttons) Failed. I made due with using one button untill THAT failed too. I got Marshall to send me a new pedal. That was great except they sent me the wrong pedal. THE GOOD. It sounds pretty decent. I have a 1959 Fender Bassman remake that I used before this. The clean on the Marshall isn't as good as my Fender. The Crunch and Overdrive channels don't sound good untill you turn the amp up about 1/3. Thats when the amp sounds best. IN THE END. If your looking for something thats solid state and can mimic tube, keep looking. If your looking for a decent amp at a decent price. This should do it.

Best solid state Marshall head EVER!!!!!

By Devin

from Seattle, WA

I absolutely LOVE this amp! I own a tube half stack. When I have had minor issues with the tube head my Marshall MG4 head has ALWAYS saved me. I use it for practice and it sounds absolutely devastating with a Boss Metal Zone in front of the clean channel! This amp is loud and I can keep up with my Lead guitar players JCM 900 no problem. I use it with the full size 1960A cab reissue. Just make sure you set your cab to the appropriate Ohms rating. I love the built in effects, chorus, delay, phaser, reverb. The ability to lock your tone in the 4 seperate channels is great, especially when your buddy wants to try it out and tweak the effects.

Great For Starting

By Cody Raasch

from Lyndon Station, Wisconsin

When I first got this Amp I was excited at all of the options it had for different sounds you could get out of this thing! It took me about 20 different speaker cabs until I found one that fit the sound for this head unit. And later realized that it's best sound was in the clean channel. It gets DECENT tones, don't get me wrong, but if you want to get a GOOD tube marshall tone, save your money. The distortion is more like grit on this amp. You can get punk rock, classic rock, but you can never get record worthy tone unless you modify it. It's more like 4 channels of fuzz than overdrive. The clean channel is good and clear without sounding too acoustic. I wouldn't recommend this amp if you like long, clear, sustain. All it will give you is deep scratchy gain. If you like that then this is a good amp for you. This amp is plenty loud for playing gigs. It's line out it pretty much useless, as it changes the tone with a simulated effect. Why can't they just send out the same signal that goes out to the speaker cab. The knobs are very responsive and work great for dialing in just the right tone. You can get a real similar Def Leppard tone with the flanger effect. The delay effect is a ping pong delay. The reverb effect is a expanding effect, rather than a natural one. And the chorus is mild. If you like effects, this amp will cover your basics. But don't count on it to leave an impression. It's quite light and easy to carry with a small size to easily fit in the corner of a room or backseat of a car. The one setback I've always noticed about this amp is that it actually changes your tone, it says it's modified it sound better, but if you WANT your music to overdrive, and the amp PULLS DOWN the tone to keep it chunky, rather than letting the wavelength expand, it kind of defeats the purpose of having an amplifier. Why would you want your tone to be stopped. Overall, I'd give this amp a look at, but unless you want one tone that kind of sounds like a blend between grunge and punk rock. I would look at getting a specialized pedal or purchasing a tube version of a marshall head.

Righteous!

By Travis

This amp is awesome, loud as hell!! Clean and crunch channels sound great. Get a great classic rock sound out of the crunch channel. I highly recommend a distortion pedal to go with this amp since it's lacking on high gain distortion. Especially if you are a modern rock or metal player. I recommend this amp to new players and experienced players especially players on a budget and can't afford a tube amplifier. You get an all around Marshall tone with this amp. GO BUY IT!! YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!

Perfect for beginning to play out. I upgraded to this from the behringer v-tone head and the difference is incredible. i love marshall tone and although this is not going to sound as good as a tube, it is probably the best solid state i have heard.

Amazing for the price!!!

By David

from Miami, FL

I have been jamming out of this thing now for almost a month. I don't care that it was so cheap, that was just a bonus. Honestly, I like the tone that this head provides. When I mixed this head with a BOSS Metal Zone pedal that was it, that's all I need. I see a lot of people breaking the bank when they first start playing music which I think is cool, but to me is rediculous. This head is MORE than powerful enough to play a show and when mixed with the pedal I mentioned above you get the EXACT same tone as any tube head amp by Marshall. No it's not going to be as loud, face it it's a solid state. Will it get loud enough? Yes, it will, and it will also still sound GREAT at even the highest volumes. Although I reccomend the 1960 cabs if you want maximum quality sound, or even a JCM900 cab if you can snag one.
