The Marshall JVM410H Joe Satriani Edition 100W head is an addition to the Marshall Signature Series. Marshall's R&D engineers worked vefry closely with Satriani to craft the JVM410HJS. After much experimentation and an assortment of trials that involved Satriani using prototypes during recording and touring, they signed off on the final version and the JVM410HJS went into production.

The most notable difference from the original JVM410 is that the reverb pots have been replaced with four nose gates, one for each channel, and each with their own threshold. A Mid Shift button has been added and can be used with both the OD1 and OD2 channels.

The Clean channel is based on the 6100 when on the green mode, with the orange and red modes being hotter variations. The Crunch channel takes the original JVM410 crunch and adds some of the popular Marshall "AFD" circuit to it. The OD channels are voiced identically, based on the JVM410 OD1 but with the gain scaled back slightly and a smoother transition between modes. The Mid Shift button determines the difference in mid character between the original JVM410 OD1 and OD2 tone, moving the mids from around 650khz (Mid Shift off) to around 500khz (Mid Shift on).

The JVM410HJS is powered by EL34 tubes and has two Master volumes, the supplied footswitch allows you to switch between Channels, Modes, Master Volumes, FX loop and now the Noise Gates and Mid Shift as well. There is also a full MIDI implementation.

  • Power: 100W (tube)
  • Tubes: four 12AX7 (preamp); one 12AX7, four EL34 (power amp)
  • 4 channels
  • 3 modes per channel
  • Super punchy super dynamic
  • 4 noise gates, one for each channel
  • 2 Master Volumes
  • Simplified FX loop
  • Clean channel based on 6100
  • "AFD" circuit
  • Resonance and presence retuned to Satriani specs

Lives up to the hype

Comments about Marshall JVM410HJS Joe Satriani Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I've had this amp for about 3 weeks. I read all of the reviews in the magazines and must say it lives up to all of the hype. Very versatile-you can get so many different sounds out of it-from amazing cleans to down and dirty metal. There is no reverb, Joe replaced it with noise gates-and they work'll need a separate reverb pedal or rack-mounted reverb if reverb is a must-have. The 6-button pedal is so easy to program. The silent recording mode works great! The amp is expensive, but it works wonderfully, is built like a tank (in England, not subcontracted to a pacific nation) and provides wonderful tones. The master volume allows you to crank the channel volumes and still maintain your sanity when practicing in a smaller environment or a gig in a smaller location without the need for a power brake or hot plate. And it has all of the power you will need for a gig of any size. All in all, there are very few musical items I have spent this much for that I have felt were worth every penny...but this is one of them. Matches perfectly with a Marshall 1960 4x12 cabinet. I have played through it with my '57 Les Paul Reissue and '99 American Strat, both sounded amazing. Utilizing the crunch channel with my Kramer Nightswan brought back the 80's by sounding like the shredder guitar being played through a cranked JCM800...and there's still the two OD channels after that. If you are considering this amp and you have the means to get it, don't's worth it!

Marshall JVM410H Joe Satriani

Comments about Marshall JVM410HJS Joe Satriani Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I play in a band, that we cover classic rock, blues, grunge,etc...With this amp, I am able to get a really nice clean sound and at the same time get a Overdrive/crunch sound when needed. This amp is like having a little bit of each part of Marshall Amps history all in one. I still have my Fender Hot Rod and the bigger guns with this Marshall. Another great thing are the Noise gates, which keep the feedback down. I bought a Boss Fender Reverb pedal, to cover that missing element. You wont be dissapointed.

Comments about Marshall JVM410HJS Joe Satriani Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I like reviewers to give a little background to help understand their taste, experience, and overall perspective to see if they even "qualify" to judge a piece of gear I'm interested in, so a bit on me... I've been playing in bands since I was in middle school (so that's over 25 years for me at this point). Influences are mostly the 80's rock players, Lynch, Van Halen, Bettencourt, Wylde, Vai, etc. I'm all about the live show and how the tone sits in the mix and sounds in a venue packed with people. I have little recording experience, so I don't have anything to offer on how it will perform in a studio. I use several (what I consider) high quality amps, Mesa, EVH, Friedman, Bogner, etc. My main gig is a cover band, so need to have a wide variety of tones at my disposal. The tones and dynamics required in a pop/rock cover band (where I need everything from chimey, funky cleans to warm bluesy breakup to crunchy classic rock to tight modern rock all at several different volume levels) need to cover lots of territory. Now to the review...

Wow, what a well-designed amp! Four independent channels with three modes each to handle quite a tonal pallet, two master volumes, and it's all easily recalled with either the foot switch (I don't use) or MIDI (which I do use). The noise gates are such a nice touch, and they do work really well (notes fade vs just being cut off as they decay). The effects loop is clean, and there's a general overall quality feel to the amp. For features and build, I rate it a perfect 10. Tones are top notch, best Marshall clean I've heard, and I can get the JCM 800 crunch, and modern rock tones, too. It's really all there. It sounded to good to be true when I read the reviews, but it really does have way more usable tones than the original jvm410 imho. I've used it for a few shows now, and was blown away at how well everything sat in the mix. Definitely check it out. It is heavy, but it's a 100 watt head!

Awesome amp and awsome service from GC as always.

Comments about Marshall JVM410HJS Joe Satriani Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I bought this amp to back up my Peavey Triple X 2 full stack but now my xxx 2 is backup for the JVM HJS with A and B cabs and that's saying a lot. I played lot's of amps and in my opinion these are the best. Both are great sounding amps worth checking out. Also enough power to blast away the clouds on a rainy day. Just look up the reviews or better yet play one yourself.

Comments about Marshall JVM410HJS Joe Satriani Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I've been avoiding buying amps sold at big music stores because they usually don't have the ones that I prefer(except for Friedman amps) I own many amps like Suhr, Friedman, Alessandro, etc. And I needed an amp that was versatile with MIDI features so I was looking at the JVM410h and 410hjs for awhile. Unfortunately, Guitar Center doesn't have demos of many amps at their store so I had to order it to try it out. i was really surprised how good this amp sounded. The OD channels are very usable on all modes. The crunch channel was also good except for the green mode, it was nothing like a Marshall JMP and it was too dark. I didn't really like any of the clean channels at all. They're too dark for my taste on all modes! I was hoping I could use one amp for gigging but I guess I'll have to use 2. I'm sure there are people out there that like it, but I've played many Marshall amps that get a better clean and brighter tone. Despite these shortcomings, I think I'll keep this amp because I can still get many different types of distorted tones and the MIDI switching works flawlessly. The effects loop works as expected and the switchable noise gate works quite well.
