Overview

The all-valve JCM800 2203 is one of the most highly respected 100W Marshall heads in the company's long history. Evolving from the legendary Plexi head, it was one of the first Marshall amps to feature a master volume control. The essence of simplicity, the JCM800 is a one-channel, all-valve amp with no reverb or effects. Its easy control panel, distinctive roar, and larger-than-life edge immediately set the standard by which all other rock amps were judged and it remained the industry benchmark throughout the entire 16 years of its production life. Now it's back by popular demand and just like the 1959SLP and 1987X it has a Series Effects Loop with true bypass that takes the loop completely out of the circuit ensuring the original tone isn't compromised in any shape or form.

Features
  • Four EL34s in the power stage
  • Three ECC83s in the preamp
  • True bypass series FX loop
  • 3-band EQ
Specifications
  • 100W
    30"W x 9"H x 12"D
    41 lbs.

The standard by which all others must be measured...

By graham Ferguson

from Davenport Iowa

Comments about Marshall JCM800 2203 Vintage Series 100W Tube Head:

"Hey, I've got a great JCM800 model on my laptop..." "Have you ever played a real JCM800?" "...no..." DON'T BE THIS GUY! You don't know what a guitar sounds like until you've played through a Marshall. It's like the difference between shooting a bullet and throwing it. With the gain cranked, it's the sound of rock and roll. Add a Boss Super Overdrive and your solos will practically play themselves. Roll back the gain and you'll have a clean sound as sweet as any JC120. "But I need an orange mode, and a ghetto bass boost, and a sad chorus channel..." Yeah, I've been there, and I'm never going back!

THE rock n roll amp!

By john kelly

Comments about Marshall JCM800 2203 Vintage Series 100W Tube Head:

The JCM800 2203 reissue is by far the best rock amp. I use it for classic rock, from ac/dc to Ozzy. By simply changing preamp tubes, you can customize it to you're liking. I have two of them, one is modded and one stock. I love 'em both.

Classic tone

Comments about Marshall JCM800 2203 Vintage Series 100W Tube Head:

This is one of the most versatile amps i have ever owned. It can nail anything from a hard crunch tone to a soft blues sound. It has a great response to the guitars volume. To get the best tone , just like any other Marshall, the amp must be cranked, but a cool option the jcm gives you is the preamp so you can get a decent distortion without bothering the neighbors. Great amp worth every penny.

Jcm 800 2203X

Comments about Marshall JCM800 2203 Vintage Series 100W Tube Head:

Plain and simple this is one of the greatest amps ever made. But let me tell you about the amps tone the Mids are so smooth the treble are crisp and clear its not to heavy on the bass but it still has enough low end to play classic thrash metal or Guns N Roses type of music but you need a really good overdrive pedal.

the thickness

Comments about Marshall JCM800 2203 Vintage Series 100W Tube Head:

holy loud. this amp is sweet for anything from blues to hareder classic rock. in order to get into the heavier end of music you have to turn the pre-amp gain all the way up. when you do this, naturally you lose a little definition. so boosting is with a clean boost is the way to go also replacing the pre-amp tubes wont hurt. all in all and awesome amp.

Good reissue

Comments about Marshall JCM800 2203 Vintage Series 100W Tube Head:

Marshall JCM 800 2203x. Great amp sounds awesome. Not like any vintage JCM 800 I've played but it still sounds good. Honestly, I'd put it on a backline ryder any day... the cleans are sweet, the distrotion is grand. I just wish it were 2 channels and about -50 db quieter. No tremolo, no reverb, don't need it.

Larger than life tone!

By Moore5150

Comments about Marshall JCM800 2203 Vintage Series 100W Tube Head:

There are not a lot of bells and whistles on this bad boy compared to many other amps. However, if you are looking for authentic Marshall crunch this is your beast. Only one channel so you have to tweek it a bit to get different tones, but there are a number of great sounds in here for the discerning player. From heavy metal chunk to classic rock crunch to a surprisingly good clean tone, this amp can cover the bases. This is also one of the loudest 100 watt amps I have ever played. 100% pure Marshall, one of the best sounding modern amp that this company has ever produced.
