  • straight talk on this amp.

As reviewed by Alex on 1/2/2011

Here's the deal. This amp is not what they necissarily claim it is, but its not horrible either. This isn't a tube amp nor does it really sound like one. It doesn't have that "Marshall Sound" everyone talks about, and its not comparable to any of their tube amps. There are good things about this amp however. For a solid state amp, it really doesn't sound that bad, its just that people get stuck comparing it to marshal's other stuff. The distortion on the amp is miserable, but I run a Jekyll and Hyde distortion in front of it, and that actually sounds pretty decent. This amp is very, very loud if that's what you're looking for. As far as solid state amps go, the clean isn't horrible either. Overall though, my recomendation is that if you have enough money for this, you are way better off buying a tube combo amp, and just use a mic through a sound system if you need more volume. Honestly, most people looking at this amp really don't need as much volume as it can provide.

  • okay amp for the price

As reviewed by guitarman 200 on 7/1/2009

okay this amp blows and can not pull off what you need to play live or to just learn or fool off. This amp is nothing like what they claim it is. Its like a amp made by very dumb caveman it is small compared to a LINE 6 or a VOX. This amp sounds like it came from a junkyard the clean channel is fine or okay but all the other effects blow. Every time i use it i feel like the speakers are going to blow. If you are going to buy a marshall buy a much more expence one or just dont buy a marshall MG series buy a LINE 6 cause they last and there just amazing

  • Not for the serious player

As reviewed by Andy on 8/15/2010

I bought this rig last year because I had a gig coming up in a few days and my little combo amp wasn't gonna be good enough. I didn't have lots of money and this ended up being what I bought mostly because it's cheap. I've now used it for a year and I'm going to trade it in as soon as I find a better amp I can afford. The tone from this amp is not very good. After countless hours of messing with it, trying to get something halfway decent out of it, I finally gave up. I now play it only on the clean channel with a pedal board to shape tone and it's still not really everything I'd like out of an amp. The tone is just kind of "murky" and not at all crisp. Sounds bassey and flat no matter what settings you use either on the amp or the pedals and an EQ. I guess if you just want volume and don't care about sound quality this is the amp for you? I just bought a used Peavey 6505 4x12 cab on ebay to replace these lifeless speakers with until such time as I can afford either a 6505+, Line 6/Bogner MkII, or Mesa Recti head as well.
