  • Great amp!

As reviewed by John Nichols on 4/21/2010

Great Amp! This amp is small (but very heavy)enough to fit in the trunk of my escort or behind the seat in my Ford Ranger extended cab, and still have enough power to keep up with 50 watt half stacks and loud drummers at practice. At gig's I team it up with the 15" cabinet(I call it my 3/4 stack) and it really comes alive. I play in a dance cover band, so it's all about great tone and flexability. I use the classic channel to get that warm deep bass for songs like "Rock'n in the free world" and switch to the modern channel to get slap and pop tone for songs like "Play that funky music". This amp shines with basses that have precision and jazz pick ups, but can get a little muddy with basses that have humbuckers. Even though it's a hybrid, it likes to be treated like a tube amp. I turn it on (with the volume all the way down), then tune up my bass(usually takes about 5 minutes), then plug in my bass and set my volume. Sounds better this way and will probably last longer too. I have owned over 20 different Bass amps and this is one of my favorites. Great for intermediate to semi-pro level players into pop through hard rock.

  • The Tone I've Been Looking For!!!!

As reviewed by Gramps on 12/22/2010

Last Saturday afternoon, the amp arrived, I played around with the channel settings for maybe an hour or so, then played a gig. My lead guitarist likes cranking up his 100watt tube amp and the Marshall was right with him....on 2!!! And the tone is amazing, stupendous, awe inspiring, pick your adjective. And headroom through the roof! So, why did I rate it 4 stars? Because when I plugged in the two button channel stomp box, it turned off the speakers!!! I ordered the amp through a local Marshall dealer and they're shipping me a whole new amp, no hassles, no begging, no arguing, no trying to fix this one; just sending me a whole new rig. I can't complain about that at all. I will say be careful picking up the amp, it's top heavy and will take a dive on you in a flash.

  • Revised Opinion... You Really Should Read...

As reviewed by Gramps on 5/5/2011

As I noted in my previous review, the amp sounded great until I plugged in the foot switch and the sound cut off. So, the original amp was replaced and the second amp sounded really good for about 2 months. Then one night, on stage, in the middle of a gig, the sound dropped out; not once, but 6 times! Plus, it stayed off between 20 to 60 seconds each time. Luckily, I was running through the mains, so the bass thump didn't completely disappear! Marshall told the dealer to instruct me to take the amp to an authorized repair shop. And, it's been there for 3 weeks. The repair man found multiple problems, including bad solder joints, incorrect bias and an over-heating power supply. Depending on the repair man's opinion of the units status when he's done, I may or may not keep the amp. By the way, when I contacted Marshall regarding their quality issues, they told me to take the unit to an authorized repair center. End of communication. I really hoped for a little more...
