Marshall MA Series MA50C 50W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp (583690)

50W of pure, all-tube Marshall sound at a never-before-seen price.

Marshall has always sought to provide outstanding tone to guitarists of every budget, and with the new MA Series, all-tube Marshall tone is now more affordable than ever. The MA50C 50W combo was carefully designed by Marshall's R&D team using the same basic principles as all Marshall amps—to deliver colorful, dynamic, unmistakable Marshall tube tone in a road-ready package.

Attractive Looks
The aesthetics of the MA50C head have been specially designed to create a look that stands apart from most other Marshall amps, while still retaining the essence of what people have become familiar with for over 45 years. Two orange LEDs illuminate the interior of the unit, highlighting the power tubes. This effect is visible through the fret cloth where the trusty white script logo is mounted onto a solid piece of transparent Perspex.

Tube Power And Tone Simply Executed
The MA50C is powered using the traditional Marshall mainstays of ECC83 double triode tubes in the preamp, and EL34 pentode tubes in the power amp. The layout and controls are kept simple, allowing you to explore unhindered the full potential of the all-tube tone within. The MA50C has separate EQ stages for both the Clean and Overdrive channels so you can optimally adjust each one without compromising the other. A 12" Eminence AX-75 speaker delivers all this great tone to awaiting ears. An extra benefit has been provided in the form of a tube-driven Boost function on the OD channel giving you, for example, a solo boost with more volume and gain. The amp also contains a spring reverb for use with all channels within the amp.

Intuitive And Practical
The MA50C combo was designed with the flexible control demanded by today's players in mind, but with a streamlined feature set to keep it cost effective. Whether in your own home or gigging, setting up the sounds and relative levels is very easy. The supplied footswitch assists live performance letting you toggle between settings like Clean to Overdrive, Clean to Boosted Overdrive, and Overdrive to Boosted Overdrive, ensuring maximum versatility.

Even though the MA range is designed as a no-frills, all-tube guitar amplifier, Marshall included a couple of extra features that allow for even more versatility. In addition to the all-tube preamp and power amp tone, MA amplifiers are equipped with an onboard spring reverb tank for an extra dimension to your sound. With the front-panel level control you can easily dial in how much you need for your own taste. All MA amplifiers are also equipped with a serial external effects loop for guitarists who want to add effects units into their sound. The nominal level of -10dBV is suited to stompboxes primarily, but not exclusively.

  • Amazing amp for the money

As reviewed by Francisco on 3/6/2011

I am a hobbyist guitarist who has been self taught for 3 years or so. Specifically this amp was my FIRST tube amp ever over the spider iii amp (which was a great practice amp). The sound that comes from this amp is truly surreal, the ability to switch between clean and dirty with just the base overdrive from the amp is absolutely amazing. It gives you that heavy overdrive that rivals the best of distortion and it has that beautiful Marshall crunch that is signature in Metallica like bands. I normally don't write reviews for products, but the quality of this amp is amazing. If you are like me and looking for an amp upgrade from a solid state amp, then this is a fantastic amp to consider for the price. Trust me you will not be disappointed. If you can afford a JVM or others, go for those, but if you can't go with this!

  • A Different Approach

As reviewed by JA on 3/14/2011

This amp is not an exact clone or replica of a more expensive Marshall. It is an independent style and sound was created by Marshall with the gigging artist in mind with a relatively limited spending limit. I would compare it to Fender's Hot Rod Deluxe series. The Clean tone is remarkable. Where the popular opinion differs is the overdrive channel. Like most tube amps, becoming familiar with the settings is important to finding what you are looking for. It responds heavily to adjustments made to your guitar and pedal board, which should be used to your advantage. The negative reviews seem to be from people who didn't spend enough time getting to know this amp or those hung up on where it was made. Let it speak for itself, it is a good choice in it's class.

  • Nice Amp. Nice Price

As reviewed by Matt Passow on 2/29/2012

This is my first all valve amp and I'm loving it. The sound is so much better than a solid state. This may not sound like a JVM, but for the price it is well worth it. If you are looking to make the jump from solid state to a valve amp, and you don't want to pay an arm and a leg to do so. I highly recommend this amp as the way to go.
