As I approach my golden years (and continue gigging), the SVT is just not gonna work for me. Heard about Markbass in Bass Player, and bought it on a gamble. It is perfect for club gigs, gyms, even outdoor gigs. Recently a guy came out of the audience and said "Hey man, it kills me to say this 'cause I'm a bass player, but you're too loud!" Although the tone is not as good as a bigger cab, I gladly make the tradeoff for the ridiculous ease of transport - I can go from car to stage with all my gear in one trip. Need more power? I purchased this amp 3.5 years ago with the procoverage. I bought it for the same reasons you are looking at it (light weight, sounds good, enough power for most of the venues we play). What I didnt know is the class D switch mode amps are less stable and in particular using this amp with the perfectly matched Markbass 1x15 ext cab led to the amp blowing two fuses and never coming on again. In order to service the amp under warranty you have to ship it CA (only one place services warranty claims) out side of warranty only a select few service centers exist and I had to ship from MA to NY. It took 2 months to get it back due to back order of parts. Cost over $300 to fix. The repair center explained it's a common problem due to design flaw and have communicated this to Mark Bass. I have lost confidence in the amp which is not a good thing when your gigging and count on it to work. Do your home work, check the Bass forums, google it as you are likely to encounter an issue eventually. Very disappointed with Mark Bass as a company and will never buy their products again!

A great powerful little bass amp

By Bassman

from St. Louis, MO

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

This little MarkBass captures the 70's bass sound and sounds like a bass amp should with deep growling lows. I've had an Ampeg, Fender, Eden and Phil Jones - the MarkBass is incredible and blows away the others. For the first time the band can hear the bass. This little amp keeps up with a five piece band.

Little Mega Amp!!

By Paul S.

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

I recently bought this amp at the store earlier. I was blown away how this small amp can whip out 300W. Its size is just 2x the volume of a 15W fender rumble. This amp is perfect for a bassist like me starting off playing in small gigs. I'm really impressed because it is lightweight compared to my other choice which is a 300W G-K amp which is probably 2x as big and heavy.

Everything I hoped for

By Jerry R.

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

I shopped a long time looking for a lightweight, powerful combo or head & cabinet. At 30 lbs, we have a winner. My first jam with the Mini CMD 121P and I was convinced. A lot of different tones inside. Easy to haul & plenty of power. If you need more sound, get the ext cab. More than happy with it.

This amp gets a WOW!!!!

By Don

from Indiana

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

Traded in a Hartke 3500 head on this little powerhouse combo. It does everything I could want from a combo twice its size. I play a variety of music from classic rock to country and beyond and it obtains all the sounds with its tone and filter controls. It fills the smaller venues by itself and gets direct lined at larger venues. It is a back saver with its light weight and very compact size. Only thing I would add would be a built in compressor. I have had it several months and have NO complaints. I cant believe I am playing thru such a small unit as this coming from the days of Acoustic 360s and Sunn Coliseum Mega amps that were as tall as I am. Great job Markbass for making a great small amp that is easy to carry and sounds great and looks unique!

Five star to say the least

By Bacco The Bassman

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

Incredible sound and power and oh did I mention it weighs less than 30 lbs. ? I use this combo for most of my gigs (inside,or outside !!!) My bandmates not only get angry to tell me "YOU'RE TOO, LOUD !!! but they also get mad at me when I just pick it up like a lunch pail after the gig is done. The sound though is most impressive while truly and simply amplifying the natural sound of your bass with power and clarity. I also use it in conjunction w/the markbass 2x10 ext. whoa, look out !!! All I can suggest is "get rid of all the other bass amplification" because Markbass is all you will ever need. The price may seem high but it is by far the best value for your money that you could ever invest in musical equipment. I cannot recommend this product strongly enough.

Super Clean, Crisp !! All you need for practice or gigs

By Suicide Driver

from Tolleson Arizona

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

I have actually owned this amp for a year now. I wanted to wait for the review so all the new wears off and I can give an honest opinion on how it holds up to being shuffled around from home to gig and back. This this is amazing!! Out of the box ready for practice or gigs. I originally bought this to practive with but as I getting huge complements on it's sound and how powerfull it was I decided to use it at a small gig. It held up perfect on it's own no need to run through house speakers. The sound was loud, crisp and clear cutting through a 5 piece country band. I recommend this for anyone serious about having a very versitily practice / small gig amp. No issues at all with this cutting out or not working. I have never had a problem with this amp at all. WELL WORTH THE 900 PRICE TAG !! Buy with no regrets and enjoy!

This little amp is a total surprise!

By Jimmy Z

from Middletown, IN

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

I can no longer manage the weight of big combo amps or cabs so I wanted something small, lightweight but powerfull. When I received this amp I was very surprised at how light it actually is. When I plugged it in with my P bass I was even more surprised at how good it sounds. When I turned it up, another surprise. This thing will rock! Great growl and good quick attack with the 12" speaker. You can gig with this thing and it's easy to carry. I highly recommend this amp!

Just what I needed!

By JIm E

from Concord, NC

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

After hauling around various combos and head and cabinet rigs to gigs and other performances, I decided to "simplify" my set-up. I tried out amps by Fender, Ampeg, GK, and Ibanez. A friend of mine recommended that I try out the Markbass. I didn't think that an amp this light and small would have the tone or power that I needed. Boy was I surprised! In rehersals, I can more than keep up with the three other guitarists and still have plently of headroom left over. The amp has a tremendous range of tonal possibilities with its equalizer and two custom filters. The tone I get from this rivals my 500 watt Ampeg head and 410 cabinet. I lose a little on the low end, but this things absolutely rocks! And at 29 lbs., I gladly will carry this amp wherever I can. The price is a bit steep for an amp of this size, but if you can afford it, I would tell you to jump all over this. The price is the only reason I didn't give this 5 stars.

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

This is a terrific amp, and a real back-saver for us bassists of a certain age. Run it through the PA, and you'll have no trouble holding down the bottom, and in small to medium venues, you don't even need the PA if the music isn't too heavy. The sound is pretty clean and uncolored (great for pedals), and the tone controls are good.

Only minus is the lousy, hissy tweeter, but adjusting one of the "tube-warmth simulator" knobs can pretty much EQ it away. Or you can always disconnect it.

Not right for me

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

My awesome wife bought me what I thought was the bass amp of my dreams: a Markbass Mini CMD 121P combo. I figured it would make an awesome practice amp and I could sit it on top of my Markbass 4x10 (which I love) for bigger rooms. The truth is, I just couldn't get a decent sound out of it. I think if you were looking for a midrangey jazz sound it would be good but I like a lot of low-end, more of a scooped sound, and this amp just doesn't want to do that. I read all of the reviews and own the Markbass 4x10 cabinet so I was comfortable buying it without playing through it. I can't understand how all of these people are singing it's praises. When I first opened up the box and plugged it in, I was immediately disappointed and spent well over an hour trying to get it to sound good. I did one practice and two shows. For the shows I used this with the 4x10 as an extension cab. It never sounded right. It always sounded good, but never close to as good as the 4x10 with my Ampeg PF-500 head. I also get a great sound using that head with my Eden EX110 - although it's much quieter, requiring most of the Ampeg's power just for practice with acoustic drums. I returned it yesterday.

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

I bought a Markbass CMP 121 P brand new less than a year ago. The speaker would distort and fart out. I was told that this amp has a B&C speaker rated at 400 wars RMS. That was a lie. I contacted Markbass and was told they stopped using B&C speakers over a year and a half. They put in a speaker that looks like a B&C because it has a yellow cone but it does not have the quality or sound of the original speaker. I found this speaker is terrible and after spending $900 for this thing, I am either faced with installing a better speaker or taking a huge loss and to sell it. I own other Markbass gear but I am no longer going to buy any gear from them again.

unbelievable!

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

I waited a long time to buy this amp, the cost was pretty high for such a small combo. Finally after tax time i said "screw it" . I bought the 112 combo and the 112 ext cabinet. This is easily the smallest and lightest rig i have EVER owned. In the month since i bought it i have played 1 big night club 1 smaller bar and a casino. The tone the clarity ,the amps ability to cut through any mix like a knife is simply awesome!.. I have yet to push the volume past 30% unbelievably loud and clear.. Best money i've ever spent on a bass rig.. period. If you're reading this review you're interested . my vote.. Just buy it! you wont be sorry.

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

I bought this amp in 2012. The warranty was 2 years so it's out of warranty. I called the service company and found there was a design flaw in the board but I had to pay to get it fixed as its out of warranty. I read another review here from Ted which made me realize I had the same problem. It had been acting strange and originally thought it was my bass's jack. Last night it blew the fuse. I put the spare and that blew immediately so that's when I realized something was wrong. I think they fixed that problem but I would recommend you be sure before spending this kind of money on an amp. There's a manufacturing date on the amp. I'm not happy the company knowing there was a flaw is not covering the cost of at least the parts.

I have found this with the Markbass. Controls are straight forward and I can dial in the tone I need whether it is rock, country or oldies. For the price this amp is worth every penny

Great Sound + Power A-plenty = Satisfied Customer!

    By BVK

    from Oswego, IL

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

I recently purchased my CMD 121P and have used it in a variety of settings, including home recording, pro studio recording, band practice & live church performance. This combo has worked wonderfully in all of these applications: no noise when you run a line out to a soundboard or recording unit, great sound through a microphone, a wide variety of available tones for different live situations, and enough power to keep up with a drum-set and bury the two guitarists in my band during rehearsal. I play a Fender American P-Bass, and the CMD 121P makes it sound LIKE A P-BASS. My only "complaint" about this amp is the the sound reproduction is so pure that I don't like using my stompboxes anymore. If you own a nice instrument, this IS the amp you want to be playing it through.

Crazy they just wouldn't give us a new one. For almost $800, they should have A+ customer service that doesn't penelize the buyer. Not recommending this company again. Maybe they used to be high quality but not what I've experienced yet. Too bad.
