Overview

The Markbass Mini CMD 121P is a bass combo amplifier that gives you fat sound with electric or acoustic basses. That makes the Mini CMD 121P amp perfect for rehearsal studios or small club applications. The Markbass Mini CMD 121P comes with a built-in Little Mark II bass head in the top rear area. Bassists will appreciate the Markbass-designed Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator and Variable Pre-shape Filter which help give this Mini CMD a warm natural sound. The Little Mark II also has a Neutrik Speakon combo jack output that accepts both Speakon or 1/4" speaker cable as well as a second 1/4" speaker out jack so you can hook up to another 8 ohm cab for a 500W rig. You'll also find a balanced XLR out, unbalanced tuner out so you can tune as you play without passing your signal through pedals. A Send and Return Effect loop protects you from losing your signal if one of your pedals dies or a cable in the chain gives out.

As I approach my golden years (and continue gigging), the SVT is just not gonna work for me. Heard about Markbass in Bass Player, and bought it on a gamble. It is perfect for club gigs, gyms, even outdoor gigs. Recently a guy came out of the audience and said "Hey man, it kills me to say this 'cause I'm a bass player, but you're too loud!" Although the tone is not as good as a bigger cab, I gladly make the tradeoff for the ridiculous ease of transport - I can go from car to stage with all my gear in one trip. Need more power? Go through the board.

I purchased this amp 3.5 years ago with the procoverage. I bought it for the same reasons you are looking at it (light weight, sounds good, enough power for most of the venues we play). What I didnt know is the class D switch mode amps are less stable and in particular using this amp with the perfectly matched Markbass 1x15 ext cab led to the amp blowing two fuses and never coming on again. In order to service the amp under warranty you have to ship it CA (only one place services warranty claims) out side of warranty only a select few service centers exist and I had to ship from MA to NY. It took 2 months to get it back due to back order of parts. Cost over $300 to fix. The repair center explained it's a common problem due to design flaw and have communicated this to Mark Bass. I have lost confidence in the amp which is not a good thing when your gigging and count on it to work. Do your home work, check the Bass forums, google it as you are likely to encounter an issue eventually. Very disappointed with Mark Bass as a company and will never buy their products again!

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

I use it at home and church or wherever needed. I don't do loud gigs. I can't speak for a large venue, but this will be great to monitor bass and reinforce the sound on stage. I don't think this bass amp is intended to be used as the primary source of sound for an audience, but could be in a smaller place. It is powerful. The V knobs really make the bass sound cool and depending what kind of sound you need, this amp is simple and can get you the sound you need.

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

I bought a Markbass CMP 121 P brand new less than a year ago. The speaker would distort and fart out. I was told that this amp has a B&C speaker rated at 400 wars RMS. That was a lie. I contacted Markbass and was told they stopped using B&C speakers over a year and a half. They put in a speaker that looks like a B&C because it has a yellow cone but it does not have the quality or sound of the original speaker. I found this speaker is terrible and after spending $900 for this thing, I am either faced with installing a better speaker or taking a huge loss and to sell it. I own other Markbass gear but I am no longer going to buy any gear from them again.

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

I'm a professional upright and electric bassist that plays jazz, funk, rock, folk, etc.

I've owned two of these now and have used them in a variety of settings.

I bought my first one in 2010. The power conditioner/supply (not sure what to call it) failed. Basically I couldn't get it to turn on. Fortunately, since it was not my fault, it was covered under the manufacturer warranty so I was able to get it repaired free of charge in Bloomfield NJ. Soon after, it was stolen at a show so I bought another one in 2012. Now four years later, the exact same thing happened at a gig. Just would not turn on. As far as I could tell I hadn't done anything to it. Luckily I was able to use somebody else's amp that night. Unfortunately, since 2012 Markbass has pulled a lot of their repair centers. Most regular repair shops will not work on Markbass so now I am forced to travel 2 hours (100 miles) to Philly to get it repaired and since the manufacturer's warranty is only 2 years, it will cost me about $250. Needless to say, I'm angry that I've had the same problem with both amps and Markbass customer service is terrible. After talking to my repair guy, it's clear that this is a known issue with these amps.

My other problem with these amps is that they're a bit overpowered. A 1x12 speaker is simply too small to handle 300 watts of power. If you're not careful, you can blow out the speaker. This is NOT the amp you want to buy to compete with a loud drummer. You won't get THAT much low end from this amp. It's not a 1x15 so don't expect the same volume and low end from it. If you turn the volume high, make sure you're not trying to pump too much low frequency through the speaker.

Since it is cheaper to fix than to replace with something else, I will repair it. But I will always be wondering when it will fail next. If you want an amp this size, I'd look into Orange instead. I bet their customer service is better than Markbass. Wouldn't be hard to beat

Was happy with the sound and everything the first two months only playing at church one day a week, then it failed to power up. Had to ship it to CA for $70 bucks out of pocket. Crazy they just wouldn't give us a new one. For almost $800, they should have A+ customer service that doesn't penelize the buyer. Not recommending this company again. Maybe they used to be high quality but not what I've experienced yet. Too bad.

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

I bought this amp in 2012. The warranty was 2 years so it's out of warranty. I called the service company and found there was a design flaw in the board but I had to pay to get it fixed as its out of warranty. I read another review here from Ted which made me realize I had the same problem. It had been acting strange and originally thought it was my bass's jack. Last night it blew the fuse. I put the spare and that blew immediately so that's when I realized something was wrong. I think they fixed that problem but I would recommend you be sure before spending this kind of money on an amp. There's a manufacturing date on the amp. I'm not happy the company knowing there was a flaw is not covering the cost of at least the parts.

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

This is a terrific amp, and a real back-saver for us bassists of a certain age. Run it through the PA, and you'll have no trouble holding down the bottom, and in small to medium venues, you don't even need the PA if the music isn't too heavy. The sound is pretty clean and uncolored (great for pedals), and the tone controls are good.

Only minus is the lousy, hissy tweeter, but adjusting one of the "tube-warmth simulator" knobs can pretty much EQ it away. Or you can always disconnect it.

The unit makes me happy. There was only one wrinkle. I purchased with a Markbass New York 121 1x12 Bass Cabinet to go with it. Unfortunately the cable to connect them was not listed in either description and I needed to return to the store and get one before I could set them up.

For the musician playing in small clubs or venues it is a great little stage amp. Weighing under 30 lbs, it is easily transported, yet has the sound and power of a much larger stage amp.

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

My awesome wife bought me what I thought was the bass amp of my dreams: a Markbass Mini CMD 121P combo. I figured it would make an awesome practice amp and I could sit it on top of my Markbass 4x10 (which I love) for bigger rooms. The truth is, I just couldn't get a decent sound out of it. I think if you were looking for a midrangey jazz sound it would be good but I like a lot of low-end, more of a scooped sound, and this amp just doesn't want to do that. I read all of the reviews and own the Markbass 4x10 cabinet so I was comfortable buying it without playing through it. I can't understand how all of these people are singing it's praises. When I first opened up the box and plugged it in, I was immediately disappointed and spent well over an hour trying to get it to sound good. I did one practice and two shows. For the shows I used this with the 4x10 as an extension cab. It never sounded right. It always sounded good, but never close to as good as the 4x10 with my Ampeg PF-500 head. I also get a great sound using that head with my Eden EX110 - although it's much quieter, requiring most of the Ampeg's power just for practice with acoustic drums. I returned it yesterday.
