Overview

The Markbass Little Mark tube amp head gives the warmth and richness of a tube preamp, the clean attack of a solid state preamp, or a mix of both. The bass amp head features a mix control for mixing between a solid state preamp and tube preamp. The result offers a range of sounds, from the crisp, Markbass sound in the solid state, to a heavy tube sound in the tube state, and anything in between. On the front panel there are 2 inputs with separate gain controls: one 1/4" jack, and one combo jack that accepts either an XLR or 1/4". The Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator (VLE) and Variable Preshape Filter (VPF) allow access to a wide array of timbres, from classic tones to modern hi-fi sound. A phantom power switch accompanies the XLR input, for using a microphone on a double bass. Mute control is as simple as a push and a pull on the master volume switch. The Markbass Little Mark has 4 bands of equalization, line out control, and pre/post EQ switch for the XLR out (on the rear panel). Rack ears not included. The bass amp head features a single 6205 miniature tube.

Comments about Markbass Little Mark Tube Bass Amp Head:

I've been using this for about 5 months now, meets all my expectations. Compact (I use it with two 15 inch Travelers) with high volume, quality sound; and you can line into the sound system for larger venues. Tube/ solid state preamp options are very effective. It sounded really nice with the 4x10 inch front ported Markbass enclosure, but I wanted something light and compact that I could put in the back seat of my car.

    This Amp set my standard

    By MATT

Comments about Markbass Little Mark Tube Bass Amp Head:

When I joined my band and needed an amp Markbass was my first thought after hearing a minimark a year before buying my second bass guitar. The idea of a mix between solid state and tube in the pre-amp sounded compelling to me, as well as the XLR out for DI. This thing sounded decent to my ears set to flat. However, once I started tweaking it to my preferences, this amp totally blew my mind. I'd been playing on a Fender 15w practice amp til then. The LMT sounded so yummy to my ears my technique improved vastly over a period of days from the amount of playing I was doing. Very punchy mids, and you can get a variety of tones out of this amp by adjusting the VLE or VPF filters. The more I played through it the more I fell in love. I ended up wanting to see what more headroom would feel like, and returned it to my local GC fully intent on purchasing the LMT 800. Before driving down there however I researched the MoMark system, and found it's dual speakon connections + mute button instead of the pull knob to be desirable. The option of a graphic EQ later sounded nice, but the modular system wasn't the biggest selling point. Semi-parametric mid EQ's and just so much that I liked about the MoMark. And while I did notice a slight difference on the tube/ss mix on the LMT, it was just that. SLIGHT. A little warmer set to full tube.. a little louder set to blend both equally. Fast forward.. the MoMark 800 arrives. And while it was indeed more powerful, and a great sounding amp with lots of low end and a crisp clean tone, it did not have as much punch in the mids as the 500w LMT. I went back to GC yet again to return the MoMark 800, but while I was there they let me plug it in and play it next to an LMT 800 they had in stock. I even brought in my sr500 to play through. They both had the same characteristic of a strong solid and massive low end, with less punch in the mids than what I remembered of the 500w LMT. The MoMark 800 to my ears had a clearer and crisper tone than the LMT 800, but otherwise very similar. I attributed this to the MoMark t1m module using a different tube than the LMT series.. and this led me to purchase the MoMark 500 Black.. which returned my punchy mids (something about Markbass 500w and 800w heads sounding different). It had been a week or two since I'd heard the LMT 500w, but the MoMark 500 also seemed to have this tubey growl that was not distortion. So I went with the MoMark 500w due to the additional speakon connection along with other features mentioned above. That being said - If I didn't have the extra $60-80 bucks for the MoMark 500black + tax.. I probably would've been happy with this head. It sounded freaking great. I only returned it thinking I'd like more power.. and the only reason I don't own one is because I loved the tone of the MoMark 500 just as much if not more, and the features that come with it. I don't think you would be going wrong by trying this LMT 500w.

    Powerful and Versatile

    By Brian Skubic

Comments about Markbass Little Mark Tube Bass Amp Head:

This little amplifier has a powerful output without sacrificing your desired tone be it dirty, clean, or somewhere in between. I spend hours at a time tinkering with all the levels to just see what new places I can take my tone. I play it out of a rear-ported 4x10 Markbass cabinet and I am simply satisfied with the result. The amp's power allows for limited mixing and matching of multiple cabinets at once, depending on the space that you need to fill up. If you are serious about your live sound, consider Markbass a worthy investment. Be aware that Markbass's popularity is on the rise and you may experience long wait times due to manufacturer backorder.

    Mean and Clean!

    By Funky Ol' Lady

Comments about Markbass Little Mark Tube Bass Amp Head:

WOWEEE!! Combined this head with the MB 151P Traveler cab and came up with THE sound AND PORTABILITY I have searched for forever! I previously owned a MB Little Mark II/MB New York 604 which was a great rig, however I didn't get enough depth AND DEFINITION for my taste. This LM Tube amp, IMHO, blows away the LM II. No mud -- unless you want it. Then just crank up the VLE knob. I set the solid state/tube pre-amp mix dial @ 1 o'clock position. It really does make a difference to have that tube pre-amp. I like having the ability to mute, but I really would suggest Markbass add a foot switch jack for muting as it is awkward trying to pull out the master volume switch to mute. You end up twisting the knob changing the volume setting. Put this amp in the fabulous MB amp gig bag, tilt the cab up with the great MB amp stand, and smile as you love your sound and have no more back pain from hauling around the big rig from the jurassic era!
