Overview

The Markbass Little Mark Tube 800 bass amp head solves the "tube or solid state" dilemma. But it goes a step further by addressing that other perennial concern, "Will I have enough power?" The 800 watts from this powerful bass amp will satisfy any thirst for power, and the two bendable preamps give you the warmth and richness of a tube preamp, the clean attack of a solid state preamp, or a mix of both. The Markbass head features a mix control for mixing between solid state and tube. The result offers a range of sounds, from the crisp sound in the solid state, to a full, heavy tube sound in the tube state, as well as anything in between. On the front panel there are two inputs with separate gain controls: one 1/4" jack, and one combo jack that accepts either an XLR or 1/4". The Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator (VLE) and Variable Preshape Filter (VPF) allow access to a wide array of timbres, from classic tones to modern hi-fi sound. The Little Mark Tube 800's phantom power switch accompanies the XLR input, for using a microphone on a double bass. Mute control is as simple as a push and a pull on the master volume switch. Additional features include four bands of equalization, line out control, and pre-post EQ switch for the XLR out (on the rear panel). Markbass Little Mark amps and combos are manufactured to be sold and used in the country of purchase, and they are factory preset to that country's voltage. Due to homologation issues, the voltage may not be changed. Rack ears not included. The head features a single 6205 miniature tube.

I have had the same pair of Acme Sound B1 cabinets for nine years. I like them for their portability, flat response and three-way design. Over the years I have struggled to find a bass head to pair them with that matches their functionality. I started with an Eden WT-400, then a Euphonic Audio iAmp 500, an Ashdown Labs Superfly, an Acoustic Image Clarus 2R Series III and a Mesa Walkabout before settling on the Little Mark Tube 800. I needed something compact, which all of these were, except that the iAmp 500 didn't sit atop the B1's well. I needed something with warmth, which the Superfly and the Clarus both lacked and I needed something with headroom, which the Mesa had, but with a lot of added noise. I've found that most Class D switching amps really don't live up to their output ratings. Giving up the weight generally means that clipping will occur long before a Class D amp is ever at full output. For example, the Clarus actually showed artifacts on its waveform at about 87 watts. The Little Mark 800 is everything I've been waiting for. It's true power from a well designed and lightweight Class D power section that lives up to its promise of 800W @ 4 ohms. The VLE and VPF filters help to give it the vintage tone I liked from the Mesa but without the weight and loud cooling fan. I can easily revert back to a more solid state sound as well by adjusting the Solid S/Tube knob. This amp is very portable, but still has enough girth to let you know that there are some solid components inside that are going to work for you night after night. The push/pull mute switch on the master volume knob is another great innovation except that it gets a little difficult to pull at times if your fingers are sweaty. I double on upright and electric and having the ability to provide +48V phantom power to an additional channel as well as having independent gain settings is, quite frankly, AWESOME. It also works when doubling on active and passive basses that have vastly different output levels. The price on this amp is also staggering. MarkBass is killing the competition here in the boutique Class D market and their components are obviously far more superior. The MarkBass power section is actually comparable to Class H power, which is usually reserved for very high end audiophile equipment.

Bought this to jam in my sound room. Just me and my bass. While playing one night, the amp just stopped working. No output. Amp fires up,input will show clipping with gain adjustment, but NO SOUND!Swapped cords, cabs, guitars to no avail.Amp never left my house, was never abused and only drove an 8 ohm load.Of course it's out of warranty.Currently using it as a pre-amp connected to a separate power amp via xlr in back.. Kinda defeats the purpose of lightweight and portable.Lost faith in MB and will not repair the unit. Rather spend that money and purchase a more "tech friendly "brand.

Comments about Markbass Little Mark Tube 800 Bass Amp Head:

Simple but effective equalization. Very clean with solid state preamp; warmer sound with tube preamp. I prefer almost 50/50 blend. Paired with two Traveler 151P's. Enough power for any size gig; easy to line out to mains. Will fit in the back seat of my car and easy on my back.

Comments about Markbass Little Mark Tube 800 Bass Amp Head:

I am using this head as the core my rig now. It is ridiculous how well this head performs. Smooth abundant power. Easily adaptable to and sonic environment. All of the controls are simple for sculpting your sound on the fly.
I am a working mausician. The music I am involved in requires a broad palette of tones and colors and the Little Mark Tube 800 adapts to every required twist and turn. I will not be looking any further to meet my playing needs. Weighs about the same as a toaster.
Only bad thing: doesn't make toast.

Comments about Markbass Little Mark Tube 800 Bass Amp Head:

I was searching for a backup bass amp, I currently use Eden witch I love, but I was looking at the same time for something different. I expended more than six months in my research. I tried many different heads, including first my favorite bass players' endorsers like Victor Wooten, Billy Sheehan, and many others. I don't want to mentions brands because I personally think they are all good. It is just a matter of taste. In all the years I have been visiting GC, I never payed attention to the yellow amp and funny looking speakers, and to be honest, it was the least I expected to buy. But every time someone tried this amp, I had to turn around to see witch amp or bass they were using. So finally in one of my tours, we stop at the Guitar Center in Paramus. Bob a sales man at the bass department new what I was all about for a long time. He said to me, "So did you make your decision, or still looking?" Still looking was my answer, He then said, "So why don't you try the funny looking yellow amp? You may be surprised." So I did, and that was the end of my search. This is now my primary bass amp and I don't regret a beat about this purchase. I think it is worth every single penny, Now I know why Tom Kennedy, and Richard Bona use this amp, it is all about tone and power, not just power.

It makes no difference what it says about an amplifier on paper. How does it perform? This is what counts. I have been playing big, bulky amps for year, however, with the new technology of my Markbass, this has become my go to amp! The punch, power, presence and sound shaping capabilities of this little amp is belied by it's diminutive size. This amp is the real deal, better than amps costing thousands more. I also bought the carry bag and it is not possible to say how much easier life has become. I am tired of carting heavy gear around. Audition a Markbass amp! I could not be happier with mine! Remember, if there's no bottom, there's no nothing!

Just Bought this amp, This thing ROCKS! Comparable to my SVT tube head but I can lift it with one hand! Amazing tone, Plenty of power, controls are simple to use, quickly dialed it in. If you are sick of lifting those heavy amps around... buy it!, this thing is a little can of whoopazz!

Comments about Markbass Little Mark Tube 800 Bass Amp Head:

I have had this amp for about one month and have gigged with it 10 times now. I have used it on 2 1x2 with a 6" cabinets, Ive used it with a 15 with an 8" cabinet and I have used it with my 15" 12' 8" tweeter cabinet and for the most part it tuned fairly well to each cabinet and the situation I was in. I primarily use a sterling sh5 so I am looking for warmth clarity power punch and sustain. It hits the mark 99 % of the time. Power is fast and solid. Love the tube feel and sound up front. Tone controls are very responsive. the 2 things that are missing for me is on the tone I cant quite get the balance between warm clean bottom and a touch of clean high for what I call the 180 degree mix. The second thing is no nutrix connection??? I primarily play country music modern and classic and it just barely misses that sound Im looking for. I am going to try a few externals to see if I can find it with this amp. I have Edens, Ampegs, Genz Benz, Fenders, SWR and Epifoni to compare with. I love all of these amps. The edens probably has the best tone but lacks everything else that this amp has to offer. I am a purist and I don't use any pedals or effects if I don't have to. I am old school and been doing this for 41 years so maybe Im a bit fuddy duddy. This amp is very nice and small with great power and versatile tone 4 stars for me
