Overview

Markbass Compressore is a high-quality tube compressor pedal that features all the individual controls normally found on professional studio outboard compressors: gain, threshold, ratio, attack, release and volume. Not only designed for bass, this Markbass pedal can also be used with guitars or any acoustic or electric instruments, in either live or studio applications, thanks to its state-of-the-art component quality. The bass pedal's ECC 81 tube compresses your signal, evening out the sharp peaks of your playing in a natural, transparent way. At the same time, it also adds warmth and harmonics to your sound. Like all Markbass pedals, this one features "true bypass." So when the compressor is off, your signal goes directly from the input jack to the output jack without any degradation of audio quality.

While some compressor pedals offer individual control of nearly all compression parameters, the controls on most comp boxes adjust two simultaneously, and some only have a single "compression" knob. The Markbass Compressore features all the individual controls you would normally find on professional studio outboard compressors.

I bought this brand new. While it worked, it had excellent tone and adjustability. You can really dial in the sound you want with the compression. So why 1 star? First, the foot switch, which I never "stomp" on (and I've never taken this outside of the room I practice in) started to be inconsistent. I'd tap it 5+ times before it would activate and only got worse.

I contacted MarkBass directly on this issue. They referred me to VST customer service for all American issues. I contacted them (via their online request form) and waited nearly a week, no reply. Sent a follow up email directly almost a week later, I have gotten not a single reply. Frustrated, I tried to contact MarkBass again. I get an auto-reply that says the company is out on Holiday for the next two weeks.

I looked into replacing the switch myself, but this doesn't seem to be such a simple part one car easily replace.

At this point, it has become a paperweight. Call me impatience, but I'm used to companies that gave a 48-hour turn around on their product support. I couldn't imagine if I depended on this as a professional musician!

BEST EQUIPMENT

By Aaron

from York Haven

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

First of all Markbass is the best equipment for a bass you can use. But this Compressor pedal actually works. It has all the power your need for any Funk JAzz Metal or Rock...ECT. It has six ajustable knobs counting the volume know...How many pedals do you know that come with there own volume know...It dives your bass a great sound no matter what. My favorite part about this equipment is the attack function. This actually affects the level of UHMF in your pedal...Over all everthing works...I think it eliminates hum also but cant prove it This is one piece of equipment any pro should not go without gettin

Smooth Warm, and Buttery, not Cheap Margarine !

By Bluto Dirkschneider

from Edwood, Washington

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

This is by far the best compressor I've ever used, I've ran without compression for years, (Except when recording), because in past experiences with other Models, compression always seemed to Muddy up the tone, Killed the Highs, and no matter how I set it, it would Pump, and choke, This Markbass Tube Compressore, is Sweeet ! it didn't degrade the Tone, it actually gave it a nice boost, and playing with a Pick is to die for, Pick or Finderstyle, it's Warm, Punchy, Fat, and immediately my Bandmates were extremely Happy I boought it because I like to play LOUD, It Rolls off the Harsh sounds when Popping, Plucking, Picking, Thumping, brought the sound into the Mix when I play light, and brought it down ever so slightly when I get after it, It made my sound more Musical and pleasing, My Effects sounded wonderfull, This pedal does NOTHING Negetive, I've used it through 8 different Amp setups so far, and every One of them Loved it, and in Stereo, it's Heaven ! I've been waiting a long time for a product like this to come along, the tube makes this thing sing, BUY IT, You Wont be dissapointed I promise ......

Nice front end for my SD800

By Mike

from Oklahoma City, OK

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

So I went to GC ready to trade in my MarkBass SD800 for the new Little Mark Tube 800 because I liked the idea of bit of added warmth. I had the two hooked up side by side and was leaning hard toward the LM Tube 800. As a last resort, I thought I would try the MarkBass Compressore pedal as I read it would warm up the sound a bit even at low compression. Indeed it did...as well as bring my slap and fingerstyle closer in volume. I adjusted the settings to lightly compress when hitting a hard low B or going to heavy slap. Granted the SD800/Compressore pairing doesn't quite have the portability of the LM 800 tube, but I much preferred the sound and feel. I didn't mind saving a few hundred $ either :) I wouldn't say the SD800/Compressore combo has the warm tube sound of a Mesa/Boogie or Eden (I've owned both of those), but it does deliver a slightly warmer-than-SD800 sound with more clarity and definition. I will probably always leave the pedal turned on. Set correctly, it still allows the dynamics of your playing to shine through. Definitely no added noise.

    warm, smooth and QUIET

    By John

    from Plymouth, NH

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

So many rave reviews on this product that there isn't much I can add. This is an excellent piece of equipment. Some were complaining of its size but it fits in my gig bag along with my chords, chorus pedal, tuner, and Micro Bass II pre with no problem. Maybe they just need a bigger gig bag! Wonderful tone and control over compression effect. Watch video on Mark bass website for demo on how the controls work. The enclosed literature isn't much help.

Well worth the size and wallwart

    By kenneth

    from Golden Valley, MN

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

At first, I was skeptical because of the larger footprint than some compressor pedals, the power demand that a normal pedalpower cannot feed, requiring use of the included wall wart to power it. But when I did a shootout with other compressor pedals, this one won hands down. Six-knob flexibility, and all six knobs actually do something when adjusted, but not too touchy either. Just right. I am very happy not just with the sound, but the very wide range of gain and attenuation and tonal performance across this range, which have been very helpful when dealing with some house sound systems that seem to have very hot or cold cable snakes/mixers. I originally got it for bass, but I always use this pedal when I play acoustic guitar since the time I first attempted that. Sounds fantastic with a stratocaster feeding a tube amp too! I've rarely come across a pedal that is so versatile to the multi-instrumentalist. Has a loud physical appearance, which may or may not appeal to you. But, it has been solid as a rock so far, and I think we all appreciate durability.

    Brand New Bass!!!!

    By Dakota

    from North, Texas

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

I went into guitar center looking for some pickups to give my Fender Jazz Bass more volume and smooth it out a bit, unfortunately the store didn't have the ones I wanted in stock and I needed a quick fix fast for a gig the next night. I then saw the Compressore, and figured I would give it a shot. When I plugged it in and adjusted the knobs a little (not knowing how to work a compressor) I was blown away! It honestly made my old bass sound brand new! It gave my bass an added warmth, clarity, and even out the sounds, and then when you adjust the gain and volume all the way up my bass sounded 3x louder but yet still had the added warmth, clarity, and even tones! Must have for any bass player!

    Awesome

    By Alfonso Villagrana

    from El Paso TX

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

I've been playing metal/rock for about 11 years now. I use a Sans Amp Bass Driver DI. And I though my tone was pretty much good with that pedal. I saw a Billy Sheehan were he explains how he uses compression to get his tone (besides the two amps). And well I was like I want to try it out and see if I this works out for me since I already have a "good" tone. I went to GC originally to try out the MXR M87 Bass Compressor. It was not in stock so the guy there told me "well we have this MarkBass compressor", try out if you don't like it bring it back. I have to admit I was biased about MarkBass products because they're a bit pricy for me and because my bass professor says he doesn't like his stuff. Anyway I came home plug it in before my SABDDI and I had a little trouble figuring out how to use it, but after doing some research I found out how to use a compressor, and well I'm amazed that this pedal works very well it added "warmth" to my tone and sustain. I love it and I would definitely recommend this product.

Great add-on for any bass player

    By Rick Gaston

    from Villa Rica, GA

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

I really recommend this compressor. With my standard bass (passive by the way) the higher notes down the fret get pretty quiet and do not sustain out as much as I want. This compressor fixes that very well without changing the original sound, if anything it brings out a little more character in the sound. It has its own volume control, so I suppose you could use the compressor to boost your volume when active, but I dont think I will ever play without it turned on.

A Great addition to my sound

    By p collin

    from york, ME

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

First off, I'm not a pedal/effects kind of player. I like to keep it simple. I've used a variety of compressor pedals in the past and looking back they all "worked" BUT....This compressor is the real deal. With it I'm able to better dial in my sound, even out my tone and get the results I'm looking for/hearing in my head. Most pedals I've used only offered a couple knobs but this one gives me real parameters to work within and better understand the management of my sound. When I play, it's on all the time. It's well built too so I'm not afraid to take it on the road with me. It's pro-type gear and worth the money.

    Awesome sound!

    By Jerry Starbuck

    from Arlington, VA

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

I use the Compressore with the Little Mark Tube 800 bass amp and Standard 104HR cabinet. The sound is awesome! Now I have the bunch the audience can hear, while taming the booming E string. The Compressore with a little reverb (Hardwire RV-7) is the only effects you'll need or want. Go ahead, you know you want it.

    Does what it says

    By Riley Hauschildt

    from St Paul, Minnesota

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

This is my first compressor and I bought it because everywhere that I read said it was one of the best. When I finally purchased it I was not disappointed. It does everything that it says and more. Markbass also makes very useful videos about their pedals that explains how to use them to their fullest. I have absolutely no regrets about my purchase and would recommend this pedal.

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

I purchased this compressor as a way of working around my really marginal slapping skills. It's clean, quiet, very adjustable and appears to be very well made. I certainly prefer it to my old Keeley or the compressor in my Boss M-80.

Because it is vacuum tube based it is larger than most pedals and can't be run on batteries. If these are priorities there are other good pedals that would likely be a better fit.

      Great for guitar as well

      By scott trowbridge

      from Takoma Park, MD

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

Needed something to replace my Blackfinger due to its slightly fragile non-standard power connector. I wasn't really looking at this since it is marketed as a bass compressor, but I wasn't liking any of the ones I was testing. The keely had very good response time and release, but no tubey compressed sound that I was used to with the blackfinger. This one had a more similar sound and in fact has better controls that the blackfinger. It does nothing to negatively affect the more upper range guitar tones.

      By Tim

      from Sandy, UT

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

I was looking to sweeten the sound of my Ibanez 6 string, and boy did this baby deliver! It's very versatile and customizable giving you the right amount of compression you need, as well as some limiting functionality. The difference in how my bass sounded was night and day once I plugged this in. It gave me a nice smooth thump without killing the overall feel of the low end, and my highs were as crisp as ever. I'd highly recommend this to anyone!

I ruined the last one after several years by getting liquid into it. I liked it so much I got another. My last one is pictured above. My new one looks a little different; it doesn't have the brass colored plate with the holes in it. . I didn't want to take a chance with another. I need to play very cleanly, as ringing strings come through. I use compression a lot. Note: It uses an adapter; it cannot use batteries.

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

I had one of these stolen in Washington D.C., picked up another one within a few days of returning home. Well worth the investment!

I do have a minor issue; I seem to have reached the volume threshold of the pedal, even with the volume all the way up and the gain fairly high. It is currently the first pedal in my chain to avoid any overdriving, but I have been toying around with pedal placement in order to rectify the situation.

That being said, the compression is excellent, variable, and has the true MarkBass flat tone response, allowing your bass to really color the sound. Overall, an excellent excellent pedal. Ringing sustain for days, elimination of the infamous Fender dead spot (C on Jazz basses), and really allows my Rickenbacker to sing and shine!
