Overview

Markbass Compressore is a high-quality tube compressor pedal that features all the individual controls normally found on professional studio outboard compressors: gain, threshold, ratio, attack, release and volume. Not only designed for bass, this Markbass pedal can also be used with guitars or any acoustic or electric instruments, in either live or studio applications, thanks to its state-of-the-art component quality. The bass pedal's ECC 81 tube compresses your signal, evening out the sharp peaks of your playing in a natural, transparent way. At the same time, it also adds warmth and harmonics to your sound. Like all Markbass pedals, this one features "true bypass." So when the compressor is off, your signal goes directly from the input jack to the output jack without any degradation of audio quality.

While some compressor pedals offer individual control of nearly all compression parameters, the controls on most comp boxes adjust two simultaneously, and some only have a single "compression" knob. The Markbass Compressore features all the individual controls you would normally find on professional studio outboard compressors.

This is the best bass compressor pedal on the market right now for good reason. This is a compressor in which the tube actually does the compressing instead of being compressed optically. My sound is a lot warmer and tighter and as for quality, it is built like a tank. The pedal literally creates no noise when in use. This is one pedal that is always on when I'm playing

I bought this brand new. While it worked, it had excellent tone and adjustability. You can really dial in the sound you want with the compression. So why 1 star? First, the foot switch, which I never "stomp" on (and I've never taken this outside of the room I practice in) started to be inconsistent. I'd tap it 5+ times before it would activate and only got worse.

I contacted MarkBass directly on this issue. They referred me to VST customer service for all American issues. I contacted them (via their online request form) and waited nearly a week, no reply. Sent a follow up email directly almost a week later, I have gotten not a single reply. Frustrated, I tried to contact MarkBass again. I get an auto-reply that says the company is out on Holiday for the next two weeks.

I looked into replacing the switch myself, but this doesn't seem to be such a simple part one car easily replace.

At this point, it has become a paperweight. Call me impatience, but I'm used to companies that gave a 48-hour turn around on their product support. I couldn't imagine if I depended on this as a professional musician!

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

I ruined the last one after several years by getting liquid into it. I liked it so much I got another. My last one is pictured above. My new one looks a little different; it doesn't have the brass colored plate with the holes in it. . I didn't want to take a chance with another. I need to play very cleanly, as ringing strings come through. I use compression a lot. Note: It uses an adapter; it cannot use batteries.

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

I purchased this compressor as a way of working around my really marginal slapping skills. It's clean, quiet, very adjustable and appears to be very well made. I certainly prefer it to my old Keeley or the compressor in my Boss M-80.

Because it is vacuum tube based it is larger than most pedals and can't be run on batteries. If these are priorities there are other good pedals that would likely be a better fit.

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

I had one of these stolen in Washington D.C., picked up another one within a few days of returning home. Well worth the investment!

I do have a minor issue; I seem to have reached the volume threshold of the pedal, even with the volume all the way up and the gain fairly high. It is currently the first pedal in my chain to avoid any overdriving, but I have been toying around with pedal placement in order to rectify the situation.

That being said, the compression is excellent, variable, and has the true MarkBass flat tone response, allowing your bass to really color the sound. Overall, an excellent excellent pedal. Ringing sustain for days, elimination of the infamous Fender dead spot (C on Jazz basses), and really allows my Rickenbacker to sing and shine!

        Gave me the perfect sound

        By Tim

        from Sandy, UT

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

I was looking to sweeten the sound of my Ibanez 6 string, and boy did this baby deliver! It's very versatile and customizable giving you the right amount of compression you need, as well as some limiting functionality. The difference in how my bass sounded was night and day once I plugged this in. It gave me a nice smooth thump without killing the overall feel of the low end, and my highs were as crisp as ever. I'd highly recommend this to anyone!

Well worth the size and wallwart

        By kenneth

        from Golden Valley, MN

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

At first, I was skeptical because of the larger footprint than some compressor pedals, the power demand that a normal pedalpower cannot feed, requiring use of the included wall wart to power it. But when I did a shootout with other compressor pedals, this one won hands down. Six-knob flexibility, and all six knobs actually do something when adjusted, but not too touchy either. Just right. I am very happy not just with the sound, but the very wide range of gain and attenuation and tonal performance across this range, which have been very helpful when dealing with some house sound systems that seem to have very hot or cold cable snakes/mixers. I originally got it for bass, but I always use this pedal when I play acoustic guitar since the time I first attempted that. Sounds fantastic with a stratocaster feeding a tube amp too! I've rarely come across a pedal that is so versatile to the multi-instrumentalist. Has a loud physical appearance, which may or may not appeal to you. But, it has been solid as a rock so far, and I think we all appreciate durability.

        Does what it says

        By Riley Hauschildt

        from St Paul, Minnesota

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

This is my first compressor and I bought it because everywhere that I read said it was one of the best. When I finally purchased it I was not disappointed. It does everything that it says and more. Markbass also makes very useful videos about their pedals that explains how to use them to their fullest. I have absolutely no regrets about my purchase and would recommend this pedal.

        Awesome sound!

        By Jerry Starbuck

        from Arlington, VA

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

I use the Compressore with the Little Mark Tube 800 bass amp and Standard 104HR cabinet. The sound is awesome! Now I have the bunch the audience can hear, while taming the booming E string. The Compressore with a little reverb (Hardwire RV-7) is the only effects you'll need or want. Go ahead, you know you want it.

        Great for guitar as well

        By scott trowbridge

        from Takoma Park, MD

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

Needed something to replace my Blackfinger due to its slightly fragile non-standard power connector. I wasn't really looking at this since it is marketed as a bass compressor, but I wasn't liking any of the ones I was testing. The keely had very good response time and release, but no tubey compressed sound that I was used to with the blackfinger. This one had a more similar sound and in fact has better controls that the blackfinger. It does nothing to negatively affect the more upper range guitar tones.

        Awesome

        By Alfonso Villagrana

        from El Paso TX

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

I've been playing metal/rock for about 11 years now. I use a Sans Amp Bass Driver DI. And I though my tone was pretty much good with that pedal. I saw a Billy Sheehan were he explains how he uses compression to get his tone (besides the two amps). And well I was like I want to try it out and see if I this works out for me since I already have a "good" tone. I went to GC originally to try out the MXR M87 Bass Compressor. It was not in stock so the guy there told me "well we have this MarkBass compressor", try out if you don't like it bring it back. I have to admit I was biased about MarkBass products because they're a bit pricy for me and because my bass professor says he doesn't like his stuff. Anyway I came home plug it in before my SABDDI and I had a little trouble figuring out how to use it, but after doing some research I found out how to use a compressor, and well I'm amazed that this pedal works very well it added "warmth" to my tone and sustain. I love it and I would definitely recommend this product.
