Overview

The Markbass CMD 102P is a tilt-back bass combo amplifier that has a built-in Little Mark II solid state preamp to give you more power. To help shape your sound, the CMD 102P bass amp gives you a 4-band EQ, as well as VLE (Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator) and VPF (Variable Pre-shape Filter) filters for control.

The Markbass CMD 102P amp's I/O includes an input that can handle both passive and active basses, and extra XLR balanced input for double bass pickups, Neutrik Speakon Combo out jacks for use with 1/4" or Speakon speaker cables, a tuner out jack for sending unbalanced signals to a tuner, amp, or other recording equipment, and Send and Return Effect jacks to ensure your main signal continues even if something dies in your effects chain. This versatile bass combo has an angled cabinet so that you can use it as a floor model or in the more traditional vertical position. Either way, you're going to get a warm, natural sound from the 2 B&C 10" speakers and the piezo tweeter. And if you add an external cab via the outputs, the CMD 102P combo amp will give you enough sound to fill a large venue with headroom to spare.

This is the perfect bass amp. It gives me more power and sound then I'll ever need. The last Bass Amp I'll ever have to buy too. The slanted back is perfect when you want your deep bass sounds to resonate over the band. Never have to lift it on a stand like others. Luckily Mark Basses are SOOO light weight. You'll NEVER break your back over these. My backpack weighs more than this thing. I took this to a Huge Mardi Gras I had to perform at, and the sound went over the entire crowd. I was amazed, it was also the first time I was ever told to turn down the volume. Hardly any haze comes out, and I don't ever feel like it's not enough. Plus practice you can make extremely quite, so bugging your neighbors won't happen. But when you want the walls to literally rumble, this Amp will do that with half the power. I can't say the price is perfect, but any Mark Bass is an excellent buy. I'm stickin' to Mark Bass products from now on.

Very untrustworthy on gigs...If you are a working musician do not buy this amp....If you sit at home and dont really touch your amp then this is the amp to have..My amp has been serviced 4 times in 2 yrs and it cost $20 to send it each time and you will not have it back for 3/4 weeks. Amp has to be sent to California under warranty..The amp crashed out on its 2nd gig and has only been used about 20 times in 2 yrs and went out 5 times..You will need a backup amp on your gig at all times if you carry this amp..Customer service doe not care...I was really respectful with the first email but after no response you can only put up with so much before letting people know...Stay Away from this amp if you are a working musician...

      I've never owned better

      By Auld Pharte

      from Rome, Ga

Comments about Markbass CMD 102P 300/500W 2x10 Tilt-Back Bass Combo Amp:

I've owned or used amps by Peavey, Yamaha, Gallien-Krueger(3), Hartke, Ampeg, Fender over my 37 years of playing. I recently decided to downsize to save my back, and the weight and power of MarkBass amps kept coming up in my research. I decided on this amp after trying out all their combos in a GC, and I knew it would fit my power and weight requirements just fine. What I didn't expect was that this would turn out to be the best-sounding amp I've ever used, and by a big margin. I've been happy with the sound of most of my outfits, and I've had a pretty steady progression of improvements every time I've bought a new rig. But the 102P shocked me when I got it to my first few gigs. The sound is clear end even throughout all registers; there are no dead or boomy notes. There are no hum or buzz even in bad electrical environments. At any volume I've used, the tone maintains a tone you feel down to your bones down low, and the treble and mids are sweeter than any other rig's I've ever heard. I usually use it with all the settings flat and am quite happy with it. Sometimes I dial in the VLE for a little vintage sound. I've had other bass players tell me that they're going to look into MarkBass because of the gorgeous sound of this amp.

      BEST IN CLASS 210 COMBO

      By Yekrats

      from Davenport IA

Comments about Markbass CMD 102P 300/500W 2x10 Tilt-Back Bass Combo Amp:

Bought the combo recently after auditioning Eden, Ampeg, GK, and Hartke 210's. Sounds a little like the Eden but with a more natural tone (uncolored in the low mids) and WAY LIGHTER! Excellent transparency in the upper mids/highs, lows are solid and round. The kick back feature is very nice for tight situations. Weight is close to a 4-string bass in hardshell case - best power to weight ratio I've seen (I can carry this combo easily with 1 hand). Plenty of I/O, nice to see a parrallel tuner port and balanced mic input. Extra 1/4" and Neutrix output on back for the future. Balanced output (Direct), and FX I/O finish off this well designed amp section. Pre-amp is clean and the 4 band EQ is very musical. There are 2 additional tonal controls to add to your tonal toolbox. And holy cow this thing will move some air!! In general - beautiful tone, big sound, cool look, lightweight. Best in class - Great Job Markbass!!!!!

Comments about Markbass CMD 102P 300/500W 2x10 Tilt-Back Bass Combo Amp:

I needed a cabinet that I could move without breaking my back. Moving this amp is a dream. I have played through many amps including 60's amps in the 60's. The tube emulator sounds a lot like the sound we use to get from the tube amps. Lots of different sounds. Great punch and low end.

Comments about Markbass CMD 102P 300/500W 2x10 Tilt-Back Bass Combo Amp:

As a CMD102P owner, I can honestly say that this is the best all-around combo money can buy. It's amazing features, combined with it's lightweight, will definitely gain your attention. The tone and presence of this front-ported monster will draw you in! I was a die-hard Ampeg guy before, but I've betrayed it, since they are now Chinese made. Combine this beast with a 1x15 or 2x10 Markbass cab like I have, and you're set for any venue.

A combo that doesn't act like a combo

      By Fumanchu

      from Cincinnati,OH

Comments about Markbass CMD 102P 300/500W 2x10 Tilt-Back Bass Combo Amp:

Bottom line, if you are like most musicians and are performing around town at venues that hold 100-1000 people and utilize a PA for sound support, this is an amazing amp. Nothing will ever replace an SVT and roadies for large venues, but this is the amp for the rest of us who have to actually haul their own gear. Amazing tone on stage and most impressively it fills the room with a very warm and even presence. I run a wireless and my sound off stage just from stage volume alone is impressive. Our sound guy recorded straight from the board and solo'd my bass signal for me to hear during playback and this thing sounds amazing. Most combos are a joke for real gigging or weigh so much that they no longer are convenient. Do yourself a favor and believe the ridiculously positive and glowing reviews about Markbass. Pony up the money and sell your kidney because this is worth every penny.

      Outstanding Amp!

      By Old Dave

      from Lexington, KY

Comments about Markbass CMD 102P 300/500W 2x10 Tilt-Back Bass Combo Amp:

I actually work at a GC and have many options to choose from. I arrived at this one for a couple reasons: exceptional tone, great value, and actually portable. Some claim portability when their amplifer actually resembles a bag of cinder blocks. Having most brands at my disposal, this one sounded the best and is plenty loud for most applications, except maybe Rupp Arena here in town. But with a line out, that would be feasible too, but I digress. Great amp, great value, a sound decision.

      A masterpiece of sonic engineering!

      By Dirk

      from Wheeling, IL

Comments about Markbass CMD 102P 300/500W 2x10 Tilt-Back Bass Combo Amp:

I did quite a bit of research while trying to decide on a new amp set-up. As I did, I kept finding more and more mention of Markbass in blogs from around the world. I had never heard of the company before but kept finding rave reviews on their amps, cabinets and combos. Then one day, I stopped by my local GC and there they were in their unmistakable yellow and black glory. Ok, truth be told, I didnۡt care for the bumblebee colors but SOUND is what drives me, not looks. Well I grabbed a nice Geddy Lee Jazz off the rack and plugged in. Complete awe is about the best way I can think of describing my initial impression. I sat there for at least a good hour, all of the surrounding distractions of the busy store disappearing as I marveled at the incredible tonal qualities and dead-on accuracy of this incredible little 2x10 combo. The entire tonal range, including the deepest lows, were singing in all of their brilliance. I was quite literally speechless. Then I finally came back to Earth as I noticed a small group of other folks starting to gather around me listening. They too commented on what an amazing range of sound such a small combo could so beautifully produce. Iۡm 43 years old and have been playing bass since my early teens. I have played through just about every kind of rig under the sun, many costing huge bank, and I was never so impressed with such pure and accurate sound in all of my years of playing. Markbass has created an iconic benchmark in this amazing combo. Needless to say, the amp joined my family and has been my mainstay for a few months now. It still blows me away every time I switch it on and start playing. This is absolutely the finest combo amp on the market and is worth every penny spent! I canۡt wait to add the New York single 12 cab underneath to complete my PERFECT new rig! Bravo Markbass!!!

      Incredible For Its Size

      By Art Diamond

      from Downingtown, PA

Comments about Markbass CMD 102P 300/500W 2x10 Tilt-Back Bass Combo Amp:

This amp is incredible for its size. I was looking to down-size my rig. I had been playing an Ampeg B2R into an Ampeg 4HLF speaker cab. I loved the sound from this rig, but was getting tired of lugging this heavy, bulky amp rig from place to place. As I searched for a quality amp that would save my back, my search led me to MarkBass. The MarkBass CMD 102P has a Little Mark II amp that is versatile and powerful. At 8ohms, the 300 watts through the twin 10" speakers shake the room. By adding a 15" speaker cap the amp automatically goes to 500 watts at 4ohms which literally pounds your stomach! But the greatest thing about this amp is that it only weighs 44lbs! The VLE and VPF really work well. The VLE gain gives you a nice punchy, creamy boost, while the VPF equally boosts the highs and lows to add definition and crunch. The velcroed lid on the top of the cab makes it a snap to access the rear panel of the amp. Just make sure that you use the gain control as a power clip and not a volume control. If you don't do this, you won't like the amp's sound. This bass amp combo is a keeper!!!!

Comments about Markbass CMD 102P 300/500W 2x10 Tilt-Back Bass Combo Amp:

I bought my amp and the first one I bought went out it played for a little while then got really bad sounding and eventually just stopped working. Then I exchanged it with the same amp right out of the box and the same thing happened again in the middle of a big show. I think this amp is not even close to worth the money. It sounds great till it starts going out. I found it not to relyable what so ever. Stick with AMPEG!!!!!!

      Best bass amp ever!

      By Kenneth

      from Hegins, PA

Comments about Markbass CMD 102P 300/500W 2x10 Tilt-Back Bass Combo Amp:

I am a retired music teacher. I've been playing bass for over 40 years through Ampeg, Acoustic, GK, Peavey, and a few others in rock and swing bands. I tried this amp at Guitar Center and read all the reviews. I've been using it with a 10 piece rock band and am completely satisfied with the sound. It is what everyone says it is. The sound is clean and uncolored. The two 10s add clarity without that boominess you can get with a larger speaker. It has plenty of power to handle most venues. This is by far the best amp I have ever used. Yes, it's expensive, but the resulting sound is worth every penny. By the way, it fits easily in the trunk of your car and doesn't break your back.

Comments about Markbass CMD 102P 300/500W 2x10 Tilt-Back Bass Combo Amp:

The biggest problem with this amp is the gain structure. If you have a bass that has a strong signal, or active pickups, don't buy this amp(My Musicman Stingray Bass for example). The amp will clip constantly with the gain knob nearly off. And the clipping sound it makes is not pretty. It's not a distortion, more like a digital click. Good luck trying to get a clean bass sound. If your bass has a weak signal (My old P-bass for example) you may be OK with the gain section. Otherwise, if you want to get any use out of the gain adjustment you need to turn down your bass, which as we all have experienced effects the sound of your bass. When recording (I have a professional Studio) I usually like to record direct and Mic the amp. I would never use the sound that comes out of this amp unless the client insisted.
It does get pretty loud, but the sound quality deteriorates. This would be a good amp for a beginner, rehearsals, or someone playing in small Bars.
Just my opinions, hope it's helpful.
      Sorry Markbass, not a fan.

Big things do come in small packages...

      By Chad

      from Nashville, TN

Comments about Markbass CMD 102P 300/500W 2x10 Tilt-Back Bass Combo Amp:

I'm a long time sound guy. I've set up everything from live shows to home theaters costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. I know good sound when I hear it. I recently began playing the bass, and I bought my "beginner" amp and never liked the sound. My B string was muddy sounding and the tone was not very tight and controlled. I decided to invest in a good quality amp. I tried several rigs, some combos and some cabinets with various heads. As a beginning player, I wanted something portable that I could take with me to jam sessions and eventually to gigs. I wanted something that was loud and clean and could be heard over a drummer. Most importantly, I wanted something with a big full bottom end. The Markbass 102P astounded me, and continues to do so. As my needs grow, I can buy a cabinet and use the combo head to push it for a huge sound. Right now, the 2x10 cabinet is MORE than enough. Very punch mids, crisp highs, and deep lows. The EQ and built in effects give you a lot of latitude to sculpt the sound you're looking for.

      Tight sound

      By Steve Watkins

      from Tucson Arizona

Comments about Markbass CMD 102P 300/500W 2x10 Tilt-Back Bass Combo Amp:

I looked at the amp and compared it to alot of other brands. There are a lot of reviews but most either mention the Mark Bass Combo or say this is going to be the last amp they buy. I have found that the sound enhances the whole band. It's harmonic spectrum flows in with the other instruments perfect. When there is an accent you not only feel it in the bass but in the whole group of instruments. The thing is that the corners are not fully protected and this will cause unwanted wear and tear on the cosmetics. Also just plugging in the power cord is difficult. I tried and asked my fellow band member to plug the cord in the back. I of course can be done but it is a knuckle buster......Love the sound! 40 years as a bass player...

As with many of these reviews from owners, we have played through virtually every kind of set up. You will be hard pressed to ever replace the amazing sound of an SVT system. But, with this MARKBASS I was blown away by the sound and portability. It does get old, lugging heavy cabinets around these days. I do own an 8x10 SVT rig just in case, or to show it off for certain gigs, but this 102p gets the call now for most all shows. I am ordering the 2x10 traveler to double up the size if I feel it necessary, like an outdoor show etc. The cabinet can slant back like a monitor which makes hearing better. In a perfect world, I would have the traveler 2x10 on the floor, then put the combo on top and slant it. That way, I can hear plus you get the rumble off the floor for out front. Believe it or not, I bought a heavy duty cable with a heavy lock that I run through the handles on the cabinets...and that goes through a smaller type cinder block. I use this for stages where I may not be around every minute. Nobody is walking off with my rig, or I will make it very difficult for someone to grab it. It is light enough for the average person to pick it up and go...so beware! The dials on this combo are simple and well thought out. They are rather sensitive so you can really dial in your desired sound. Absolute beautiful Italian craftsmenship...great job Marco and your staff!!

Great sound, after you fight with the controls for a while, but unreliable. I play regularly and replaced an SVT Rig I couldn't deal with carrying anymore. This amp is light, and when dialed in sounds amazing and power galore. My issue is its the only amp I have, and it failed on me while on stage. I baby the amp, have the cover for it, and take good care of it. Now I have to ship it to VST in Califonia (Markbass service center). They tell me it will take at least two weeks to fix and I have to foot the bill for shipping it. For a grand I would expect better service.

I just purchased this amp last weekend, and WOW ! This little monster really sings. The power is great, the tone is sweet. I think if you are playing in a Med to Large venue, you will need an extension cab unless you go through the board. My son usually stays upstairs in his room while we practice, and after Sundays practice he came down and told me he could hear a big difference in my tone. He said he could hear every note I hit. Whereas before, it sounded more muddy. Try one out, you will love it !

      Best all-around amp available

I have owned SWR's, Ampeg, Eden, GK, and others. This amp sounds great, has incredible tonal flexibility, it sounds great, it weighs 39 pounds according to the bathroom scale, it sounds great, is louder than you would believe in such a small package, and did I mention, it sounds great. I was easily able to get over live drums and a full stack in our 24 X 24 studio/practice area. It's all I take live, it's all I need. I had a few amps, I now have only this and a Phil Jones Briefcase ('cuz it also sounds great, and runs on a battery), and I'd never go back. Believe it. It's that good.

I looked for 3 months at just about every amp on the market and couldn't come close to the sound of this amp. It's hard to beleive that something as small as this could crank out such great sound. I absolutley love the lows and high's that this amp produces. The only thing that held me back was the price but I can definatley say it;s worth every penny.
