  • AMAAAAZING Little Amp!!

As reviewed by Funky ol' Bass Lady on 10/4/2009

I have owned this amp for well over a year now, and I just love it! I It is great for small, intimate venues, for teaching and for practice. the headphone jack is great for silent practicing. It also has a speaker cut-out switch for when you are playing with phones. It is totally amazing how much low end punch this thing has, however if you are using an active bass (I switch between passive - Mustang and '70 Hofner - and active - Fender American Deluxe Jazz and Fender Stu Hamm Urge II - basses) it is fairly easy to overdrive and distort the 6" drivers - particularly if you crank up the low end on the axe. Frequently I perform with unamplified acoustic guitarists in small rooms, and this is perfect. The one thing I don't care for about this amp (thus the 4-star rating and not 5) is that the only EQ controls are the VLE and VPF filter knobs. I need to use my Boss EQ pedal to get the sound just right. I just can't seem to get that with just the two amp controls and the EQ controls on the bass. The LIGHT weight of this box is a mind-blower! A bag of cat litter weighs more! :-)) Now that I have the Little Mark Tube amp I would like to see this 2X6 combo upgraded with a tube pre-amp and better EQ capability. In spite of the lack of EQ I LOVE this amp and would never part with it!

  • Last amp you will ever need!

As reviewed by Adam on 12/7/2009

I have played though a peavey 800 with 4x10 and 2x15 set up, an old kustom 200 2x15,an ampeg 1200 with a 1x18 and 4x10 set up, never again will I lug that stuff around. I baught this amp almost a year ago. It blew my mind. On its own it kicks butt, but I run it with my peavey 410 pro cabinet and it thumps.Im saving for the MB 4x10 cabinet and I caint wait! I use it both to practice and play out. I play a 5string pedulla and it handles the low b with no problem with an ext cabinet. Very warm and rich tones and plenty of high end with the 2x6 internal speakers getting those for you. The one and only downside is I find is the speaker shut off switch annoying. I wish it only cut the power to the internal speakers and not the ext speakers. I tried a few other markbass combos they were okay, but this one with a 1x15 or 4x10 cabinet sounds the best. It has 2 tone controls and some people do not like that. I dont see any reason to have more controls because if you have a bass that is any good at all, it should have plenty of tone controls itself. When you use the XLR though the PA, u wont even need an ext cabinet. Im telling you it will thump. Thanks Marbass. Totally worth the money and easy on my back!I would buy it all over again.

  • Great amp

As reviewed by Armanger on 5/9/2010

I've had this amp for over 2 years and it has never let me down. Its clean, sounds great and is perfect for practice, I would say that if you plan on gigging with it, you should move up a bit and start with the Jeff Berlin signature Mark bass amp. Although this is great for practice, add drums, keyboards and sax, and you will be lost in the weeds.
