Bought these pedals the other day and feel in love right away to replace my taye PSK pedals, which were par, but I needed something better and more reliable. The mapex raptor pedals provide speed and power un-matched within the $500 price-range or lower. The adjustability is impressive too, could get the pedals and the beaters at any spot i need or want them. Speed wise, they're faster than Iron Cobras, Speed Cobras, Yamaha Direct-Drive pedals, Powershifters, and the DW5000s. One of the best parts of the direct drive pedals is the lack of back-lash. it's the type of ease you'd just have to play to feel the difference. It affects the speed, the precision, and ease of use. If you're serious about your double-bass pedals, but don't want to spend top dollar on the best axis or trick pedals, these are the ones for you. Don't let the price trick you into thinking theyre just average or a little above average. Nothing even comes close in the price range

I have used this pedal for practice and live shows and it felt great. Its comparable to the Pearl PowerShifter P-2002C in smoothness and speed. Unfortunately, the pedal broke on me after several shows and weekly practice within about 6 months. The thin metal bar that connects both sides on the right pedal snapped off on one side which wasn't a big deal. The major issue is that the construction of the bearings where the hammer moves became loose causing the whole part to be pulled down instead of rotated to hit the bass. Since I got Guitar Center's extra warranty, I brought the pedal in to get a replacement. I received a brand new Raptor in the mail after about a week but to my dismay, this new pedal has broken as well after only weekly practice. A good double kick has to take the punishment of beats, blast beats, and straight double bass beats. The construction of this pedal is poor and breaks easily. Other Notes: Tama brand beaters do NOT work on this pedal. The stock beaters do NOT hit perfectly perpendicular to the skin and there is NO angle adjustment whatsoever to compensate for it.

Bearings likely to fail!

By Sean Graff

from Wisconsin

Comments about Mapex P900DTW Raptor Direct Drive Double Pedal:

As stated in another review, the main pedal has two seperate rotating shafts with ONE bearing supporting each beater. The bearings soon became loose, causing the beater to tilt and get sloppy. I first noticed the area where the beater strikes the bass drum head was starting to get worn. Instead of the right beater hitting the bass drum straight on, it looked like more of a left to right glancing movement. I think it took about 3-4 months of moderate use(2-3 hours per week), and I am not a speed double player. I Googled it and found out it was a common problem with the pedal. I didnt get it fixed yet because, unless there are ungraded/improved bearing kits installed,it will only be a matter of time before they fail again. Too bad, because I like the feel and action of the pedal. One review on here states the pedal has a center support between the shafts that breaks after little use. When I purchased mine, they did not??? Pics on the packaging from Mapex also do not show it???

      GREAT Product

Comments about Mapex P900DTW Raptor Direct Drive Double Pedal:

I bought these pedals a good while back and was kinda skeptical about the purchace, because i was originally looking to buy speed cobras or some axis pedals, you know, the HIGH QUALITY stuff. but i got impatient and bought these, and it was a great purchase, they are fast and smooth, its a high quality petal reguardless of the price, the beaters have good weights, and really push the mids of your bass drum out. i know bass petals are a very picky item of percussion equipment but this is an AMAZING petal. mapex did a great job on this product!

      Awesome Pedals!!

Comments about Mapex P900DTW Raptor Direct Drive Double Pedal:

These are very durable and heavy. The carpet spikes are very impressive THEY WILL NOT SLIDE UNDER YOUR FEET!! The beaters aren't that great, but you could easily replace them if you wanted too! The direct drive is awesome, and are very good for people that are aquatinted with double bass. Overall VERY awesome pedals! You can't go wrong with Mapex :)

Comments about Mapex P900DTW Raptor Direct Drive Double Pedal:

This pedal is pretty good, especially for the price. At time of writing, it is the cheapest direct drive pedal I could find.

I have two primary gripes about it....

First, the slave pedal seems kind of unresponsive compared to other similarly priced double pedals. Slave pedals will always be lesser than primary pedals, but even after adjusting, I just cant get the slave to the feel I want; which leads me to my second point.

There is no pedal footboard height adjustment independent of the beater. I know it is a cheaper pedal, but this is a pretty standard adjustment to me. If this was a sacrifice for direct drive, I would say it really isnt worth it. To that end, I would recommend the chain version of the Raptor over this (which does have independent footboard height adjustment); but that is just my opinion.

Overall, good pedal. You could certainly do worse than this.

Comments about Mapex P900DTW Raptor Direct Drive Double Pedal:

First off, I'm not a double pedal player but acquired one of these through a promotion. I have tried other double pedals, so here's my take:

Better than a DW 7002, which I have owned, a smidgeon better than a DW 5002, which I have played, but not as good as a DW 9002, which I love. However, it is not too much less than the 9002. This is an incredible pedal for the price. The pedals were adjusted a little low for my hi-hat stand (same manufacturer) but a friend saw it and had to have it so I sold the Raptor to him. BUT, this, again, is an excellent value from Mapex. Can't wait to watch the other companies come out with a competitive pedal. Right now, there isn't one.

Includes a case, priced right, quick and smooth, fantastic buy for the money.

Comments about Mapex P900DTW Raptor Direct Drive Double Pedal:

I just bought these and i am very pleased. I play Prog. Metal such as Dream Theater and Rush. These are just what i was looking for without breaking the bank on some Axis or Trick pedals. I have no complaints, in the box contained a portable carrying case for them with a free drum key and some other free goodies. Extremely portable from show to show, phenomenal! Great for speed and consistency.

Just about everything on it, is awesome value, and its a great pedal for people to start off on or if your a stritc metal guy like me.
I tried this out in guitar center about a week and half ago? 2 weeks? And, I thought DAMN! This pedal is great. Not just the price but it felt great, the beaters were a good weight, and the footboard was godly! I've been on iron cobras for awhile, idk if that has anything to do with me liking it!!

          Can't Say Enough Good Things

          By Kirk O'Steen

          from Raleigh, NC

Comments about Mapex P900DTW Raptor Direct Drive Double Pedal:

I got this pedal about a month ago and I have to say it's one of the best drumming purchases I've ever made. I previously had DW 7000s and they were ok but a little uneven and I needed to upgrade. I was looking at the DW 5000s and possibly the cobras but one of the employees suggested I check out these Mapex Raptors. Needless to say, hah, I bought them. As far as being smooth, the only limitations you'll have are your own abilities. They're incredibly smooth. The beaters come with a 10g weight in them that can be switched out for heavier or lighter weights. Cool feature but you have to get the weights separately. As far as the actual beaters, though, I think they're great. Adjust ability is great. Only thing I don't like is they can't be converted into two separate pedals, and they don't have a place for a drum key. In addition, the pedal clamp that goes on the BD could be improved. Overall, if you're on a budget, and need a solid pedal. This one is the best. I'd get it again in a heart beat.
