Bought these pedals the other day and feel in love right away to replace my taye PSK pedals, which were par, but I needed something better and more reliable. The mapex raptor pedals provide speed and power un-matched within the $500 price-range or lower. The adjustability is impressive too, could get the pedals and the beaters at any spot i need or want them. Speed wise, they're faster than Iron Cobras, Speed Cobras, Yamaha Direct-Drive pedals, Powershifters, and the DW5000s. One of the best parts of the direct drive pedals is the lack of back-lash. it's the type of ease you'd just have to play to feel the difference. It affects the speed, the precision, and ease of use. If you're serious about your double-bass pedals, but don't want to spend top dollar on the best axis or trick pedals, these are the ones for you. Don't let the price trick you into thinking theyre just average or a little above average. Nothing even comes close in the price range
These are not as smooth as say an Axis. If your in the market for direct drive style pedal, and don't want to break the bank, get these. THey come with a gig pag as well! These play just as good as say the Pearl Demon drives. I have been playing for over twenty years. These pedals are easy to play even doing 64th notes at speeds over 160 bpms! I like these better than my Dw 5000 with a single chain I bought many years ago.
I got this pedal about a month ago and I have to say it's one of the best drumming purchases I've ever made. I previously had DW 7000s and they were ok but a little uneven and I needed to upgrade. I was looking at the DW 5000s and possibly the cobras but one of the employees suggested I check out these Mapex Raptors. Needless to say, hah, I bought them. As far as being smooth, the only limitations you'll have are your own abilities. They're incredibly smooth. The beaters come with a 10g weight in them that can be switched out for heavier or lighter weights. Cool feature but you have to get the weights separately. As far as the actual beaters, though, I think they're great. Adjust ability is great. Only thing I don't like is they can't be converted into two separate pedals, and they don't have a place for a drum key. In addition, the pedal clamp that goes on the BD could be improved. Overall, if you're on a budget, and need a solid pedal. This one is the best. I'd get it again in a heart beat.
