  • Cute little instrument.

As reviewed by Brianna on 6/20/2015

I'm a guitarist, however I found that I just wanted to play this for fun considering some of my favorite bands play the ukulele in their songs. After the swift arrival of this thing, I found that it was very easy to pick up and play. While tuning it up, however, I found that the tuning pegs were a bit loose and shaky, and I'm not too sure how that'll affect the tuning in the future, but right now I'm not too worried because after giving them a little push they were just fine. The finish is great - I particularly like it, however as mentioned before the edges are a bit sharp (but, again, that's minute). For it's price, it plays absolutely beautifully as well, and I'm pretty happy about it. As stated in other reviews, this thing doesn't project very far, but I only bought this for playing in my room or playing for my family, so overall I'm definitely pleased with this purchase!

  • For the price, this is a nice little instrument

As reviewed by SEAN BURGESS on 1/19/2012

I bought this little guy just for fun and to take with me on vacation. Between a 15% off sale GC was having on ukuleles and a $10 gift card I had, it was only 20 bucks. For that price, I wasn't expecting a lot at all... But much to my surprise, it's a really nice playing and sounding instrument. In terms of fit and finish, the body is very nice. The fretboard has some rough edges. No burrs on the frets themselves, but the edges of the fingerboard could use a little sanding. If you're an aesthetics person and you're expecting the friction-style tuners with the tuning pegs on the back of the headstock and not sticking out to the side, don't count on that. The one they shipped to me is not like the photos and has geared tuners with the pegs sticking out the side. I figure that's a plus though, because I suspect the geared tuners are more stable. They've also got little dolphin figures on the base plates, so that's pretty. The headstock itself and the neck are very nice and comfortable to play. The Nubone nut and bridge saddle are nice features for such an inexpensive instrument. The intonation on mine is nearly perfect. I probably won't bother to do much adjustment. The string height is just fine down low where I expect to do most of my playing. The action gets a little higher towards the bridge end. Not sure how standard that is on ukuleles, so I'll see if it presents any problems down the road. The gig bag it comes with is serviceable. I'll use it, but mostly because I can't see paying more for a case than I did for the instrument. Maybe I'll keep my eyes open for a sale... The instructional DVD it comes with is friendly and helpful for someone getting started. Again, a really nice plus for the price.

  • Worth the price, buy with new strings.

I am a music therapy student and needed to start adding the ukulele voices to my repertoire. I got this little uke with a gift card I received from a private lesson student. Honestly it sounds great. Very warm tone, yet articulate enough to still pluck through different melodies. The only downside is that it doesn't project very far at all. You can soothe a small room with few people with your lovely music, but I wouldn't take this to a bar/open mic night unless you had proper mics. However music therapy is usually one on one or within a small group so this is perfect for my needs. So if you are looking to perform I'd saying paying something in the 70-80 range at least. But if you're just looking to play with some friends or for a small group of people I would definitely recommend this instrument.
