Overview

The Mackie SWA1501 Subwoofer System features a high-precision 15" transducer combined with application-specific amplifier technology. The system is composed of a single compact subwoofer cabinet with built-in control and amplification.

The transducer used in the SWA1501 system features a 3", inside/outside wound voice coil that offers extreme power handling capabilities. The magnetic assembly used features advancements in coil venting and structural cooling that provide lower temperatures and substantially improved power compression characteristics.

The amplifier uses a proprietary high-efficiency, high-current amplifier designed to provide high current levels at all levels of operation. Having access to high current levels, no matter what the power output, is absolutely critical in achieving precise, total control of the woofer mass. This control is responsible for lowering audible distortion artifacts and providing aggressive attack through the operating band pass of the system. The amplifier is mounted on a large, finned aluminum heat sink, and is rated at 500W RMS continuous output.

The SWA1501 features a sophisticated onboard control system, allowing for flexible integration with active or passive full range or mid/high speaker systems. The input panel accepts a line-level input signal and has loop-out connectors for signal routing to other devices. It also has high-pass output connectors for connection to active full range speakers or amplifiers powering passive full range speakers. All signal routing is through XLR connectors in L+R stereo or mono. There is a phase selection switch and a recessed level control. The system features thermal protection for the power supply and amplifier and also incorporates RMS limiting protection for the amplifier stage that limits the amount of long-term power delivered to the transducer.

The cabinet is constructed using 18mm thick birch plywood and finished in black splatter paint. There is one handle on each side for efficient loading and transport as well as a top, female polemount fixture.

Outstanding subwoofer, better projection than the JBL SRX at 1/2 the weight and size (and it is powered). Excellent medium throw, this sub blasts! One sub coupled with the SA 1521z powered mains was enough for a party at a 5 acre estate. I have used EV, JBL, Carvin and Fender subs and this was voiced correctly and pumped the bass for a Funk Band with the low energy punch every band needs, we spanked the audience. Thank you Mackie and EAW for your total commitment to excellence

Unreliable, Fried the amp pushing it half as hard as I push my EV sub. It was repaired under warranty and now it is not working again after only two gigs. Save your money and buy something reliable. It does put out amazing bass, but reliability is far more important here. I'm really disappointed in Mackie for this one

Good luck

By barguy44

from Undisclosed

We bought our first one two months ago and we're on our third already! These things last about a week and a half then die! Problems ranging from no power to no output. Hunk of junk!

I have repaired mine twice already.

By UnhappyCamper

from NYC

I haven't pushed it half as much as I have pushed the Mackie SRM450's (I stand by these speakers). The subwoofer has blown twice. The second time, it caught no fire inside. Not a happy camper here. Mackie better straighten themselves out.

Why buy the others guys stuff!

By Tony

from Kalamazoo Michigan

Why waste your time on searching for other equipment. This subs is much louder, crisper sounding than JBL EV B52 or whatever you may think about buying. Don;t bother saving money, spend it. I have used one with a pair of either srm 450's or 1521's and it sounds incredible. I am buying number 2 in a week.

Small size, awesome bass

By M&W Entertainment

from Portsmouth, Va

I owned a mackie amplifier at one time and was very impressed with it. After a lot of research and listening to a friend's I decided to try the SWA-1501 subwoofer. I have been extremely impressed and a another friend of mine bought one after hearing mine. These subs are reasonably lightweight and it has been very reliable. I do a lot of wedding receptions and have received many compliments on the sound quality. I normally work alone, and the small size has also been a plus. I haven't heard an 18" active sub that sounded any better than this unit.

Mackie swa 1501 pair

By OrlandoPartyProductions.com

from Orlando , Florida

This sub is one of the best on the market. The bass coverage is unbelievable from 1ft to 40+ ft clean. Most sub or cabinets are not design that way. You get bass gaps. Not with the mackie swa 1501. If you are a one man band i would recommend this product. The swa 1801 is to heavy and after a period of time it starts to sound mushy.

Nice compact sub.

By Andy Riehle

from Indianapolis, IN

This sub really pumps out the decibels! However for the money I wish it offered a bit fuller sound. I use it for a men's a cappella group (mainly for the vocal percussionist) and I really have to be careful of overloading it. Great for playing recorded music or use with a PA.

Do not waste ur time

By al mauhause

from white plains

I have 2 SRM-450's and love them but this sub is garbage! Maybe you either get a good one or not i dont know but why waste your time lugging it in for repairs every month. Im on my second repair the first lasted 1 gig. It sounded awsome for three hours. Dont take the chance.

Use this for acoustic acts and it works great!

By gguillo

from Little Rock, AR

I have read the reviews where people are claiming that these go out and are not very reliable. That may be true, but so far I have had no problems with mine. As a matter of fact, after I got this, I didn't even use it for a couple of months and it sat in a buddy's garage for a while and collected some dust. I started to get a little worried that it wouldn't work properly... but I just dusted it off, gave it a good cleaning and it worked perfectly! My band has a performing rig that is made of all JBL SRX components. Since it is summertime, me and a couple of the guys in the band play some acoustic sets at a few of the local bars. We use this Mackie SWA1501 along with (2) of our older JBL MPro 415's and it really helps out with the low end! The sub works great and we rarely have to push it that hard to get great low end. Personally, I really like this sub over some of the powered JBL single 15s" or 18s"! I think it sounds great.
