I just bought this unit a few days ago and all i can say is wow! Very tight and punchy low end . It produces that low end sub harmonics that you can feel in your tummy . I have it ran to small 12 channell mixer that goes out to the sub then to 2 behringer active 550 watt cads . Smokin sound system ! My synth sounds amazing with this setup . Very happy i bought this unit . I was very pleased to see a 18 inch mackie sub for this price . Thanks GC!

It looks so good but maybe that's the problem, you know, "to good to be true". I've used it twice and looking to sell it, it can't be trusted. It begins to clip as soon as it gets warm (not even very warm. Right where you need it, there it goes and you're waiting for it to just shut down, (like a lot of the reviews talk about). I own a large amount of Mackie equipment, the early stuff and let me tell you, never have I had the scare with any of it that I got from this sub when this thing started doin it's own thing. What happened to this company, I thought I might be interested in the DLM Series (2 subs n 4 12" tops) but right now, nobody has them to audition them and none of the stores I go to do any promoting on Mackie equipment like they did when I purchased my stuff. C'mon Mackie, get it right again, you got my e-mail, do something for the consumer before we all abandon you!

Working well for me, one is enough

Comments about Mackie SRM1801 18" 1000W Powered Subwoofer:

I've had one of these for about 3 years now. I play in rock bands that do bars, parties, and outdoor events. The sub is heavy, and I haven't found a need for it for indoor events, but I bring it to the summer outdoor events and it keeps the sound balanced even 100 yards away. I've been using it in conjunction with two Mackie SRM450s, and also as an add-on to another band's 2-speaker sound system, and it has worked well. One is enough; two aren't necessary and in fact with two I'd be worrying about phase cancellation. Hasn't needed a repair. I haven't broken the volume knob off but that could be because when I take the sub somewhere I am careful with it, and may put the volume knob in my pocket during transport.

Comments about Mackie SRM1801 18" 1000W Powered Subwoofer:

Just like many of the other reviewers, I think this sub sounds great. When it's working, it has enough power for up to about 300 folks if you have decent mid/high range speakers.

Don't get me wrong, the bass from this guy is great! On the nights that it's operated without issue, you can feel the bass and folks have been happily dancing to it for hours on end.

However, of the last 5 gigs I've played, the sub's fuses have blown twice, both times, neither the sound board, nor the sub itself were overloaded. The Soundboard's output barely peaked at the last green LED and the sub's output was set to less than 80% of Unity (0db)
Musician's friend was pretty good about fixing it at no cost under warranty. The 2nd occurrence of the sub blowing happened last weekend, so I will update after completing the repair request process.

If the mixer component in the sub that has repeatedly failed was user replaceable I might recommend this subwoofer, however if you only have a budget for 1 sub in your setup, go for something more reliable. I hate to say this, as my all my other Mackie gear (monitors, SRM450 15", ProSound 12 mixer) have performed amazingly.

Comments about Mackie SRM1801 18" 1000W Powered Subwoofer:

I purchased this at an outlet center for less than half of what most stores are selling it for. It was brand new in an unopened box still under warranty. The deal was too good to pass up. After reading some of the reviews I was a little skeptical as to whether they could handle my needs but so far I have no complaints.
I've only used it at a few gigs and mostly at home in my studio on a daily basis. The three events I did use it at were perfect. The bass was well rounded and it was just what I needed. I've used it at a wedding, a family reunion, and a house party. The house party was the true test because we ran it pretty hard for 6 hours non stop while playing Rap, R&B and Reggae. There were no overheating or clipping issues. The wedding and family reunion were pretty low key events with mostly old school R&B and some pop dance music being played. For all three gigs I was using the sub with JBL EON515 XT for tops. Now I am using the sub with the new Mackie 12" Thump 1000 watt speakers for tops. So far I've only used this combination at home but they seem to compliment each other very nicely, especially when the tops are hooked up to the high pass outputs. I look forward to using this system for all of my small to medium sized events. If I need more power then I will rent or hopefully buy more speakers.

Comments about Mackie SRM1801 18" 1000W Powered Subwoofer:

Used this sub in a SMALL bar for a year with no problem(own 2 and switched out most times). Then started using them in place of my heavier mobile subs... One died in the middle of a mid-sized gig, the other two months later. I WAS a big fan of mackie. I own SRM450's, have owned mackie mixers and amps. LOVED THEM...THIS SUB...NOT! Then Mackie tried to put blame on me. After I talked to them about the first one going(which they will not repair and i had to pay 70 to have thier repair tech from cascio music look at) I ran the second one EXACTLY how they reccomended...1400 down the drain!!! Cant depend on them and thats how I make my money. DO NOT BUY THESE!!!!

R.I.P. Mackie... Don't risk your reputation as a DJ

      By JOHN

      from Central PA

Comments about Mackie SRM1801 18" 1000W Powered Subwoofer:

First one lasted just under a year (about 16 gigs) before we had to return it for warranty repair. Mid gig, it just stopped working. Lights were on & powered up, but no sound. Not even a hum. After weeks of nobody being able to fix it, Guitar center replaced it with a brand new one. Second one lasted a total of 6 gigs before I was embarrassed a second time. Same thing--just shut off mid song. Went back to GC & asked for credit toward a real sub. This thing is not worth the hassle. Don't risk your reputation as a DJ by buying sub par equipment. After doing some research I have come to learn that Mackie used to be made in Italy, but now is owned by Loud Technologies & made in Japan or China where quality control is severely lacking. Thank goodness we bought the extended warranty or we would have a $700 speaker stand. I have been a DJ for 10+ years & have used a lot of different equipment over the years. I was fooled by this sub because it sounds great in the store. Actually it sounds great overall, but it just doesn't last. I have been the only person using this sub since day 1 & I know it was NEVER abused or even close to maxed out. We do 90% weddings, so there is no hardcore rap, dubstep or techno. I'm gonna miss you Mackie. Call me when you get your act together. For now I am going all JBL. 5 year mfg warranty... no extra cost.

Comments about Mackie SRM1801 18" 1000W Powered Subwoofer:

This is the second of these that I purchased recently at a good price . The first one worked so well that it was natural to get another one when the offer arose . I daisy-chained this speaker with the first one being careful to match the phasing and settings . The results were awesome and I remain very satisfied with these speakers . In the future I can either use them together or with seperate systems as needed .
The supplied connections and controls make these amplified speakers versitile for numerous different audio uses . Do note the weight which shows the robust construction yet can be a reason for caution if carrying these upstairs or in confined areas . These speakers are a great value at the sale price .

Floor shaking bass with dependability . Built in amplifier is well matched and simplifies installation . Sound is great and fully adjustable . Rugged construcion makes breakage unlikely . Only drawback is the weight which can be expected with a heavy duty speaker . This is a great buy if you catch it on a sales promotion !
