I just bought this unit a few days ago and all i can say is wow! Very tight and punchy low end . It produces that low end sub harmonics that you can feel in your tummy . I have it ran to small 12 channell mixer that goes out to the sub then to 2 behringer active 550 watt cads . Smokin sound system ! My synth sounds amazing with this setup . Very happy i bought this unit . I was very pleased to see a 18 inch mackie sub for this price . Thanks GC!

The people at MAckie are trying to make a come back in the Audio World. This SRM1801 Sub is a fantastic start. I heard this with both the new Yamha DSR 12" and 15 " powered full range speakers, as well as the QSC K12, and JBL PRX612M. The price is what people look at when they start looking into subs, but do not be fooled. The Class D amp is a fantastic addition, but from listening to the different combos of speakers, this sub was easily clipping, and sound muddy. Now this may have been due to being taken right out of the box, (make sure you break your speakers in before you use them on the road). The design does not make sense, its a trapezoidial design, so the bass frequency response get all screwed up. It is front loaded, but the bass waves get lost withing the cabinet. This speakers is fairly heavy, (get castors for it) and just did not impress me at all. Compared to the KSub, it has more low end, and compared to both the PRX616S, and Yamaha DSR18 it was not cutting it for me. I love Mackie, but they have been going down hill for a while, stay clear of them and the "HD" series, the amps are unreliable and faulty. For an ideal system get the QSC, or Yamaha full range cabinets for highs, and the PRX618s or 618SXLF for subs, and lows, it is worth every cent!

R.I.P. Mackie... Don't risk your reputation as a DJ

By JOHN

from Central PA

First one lasted just under a year (about 16 gigs) before we had to return it for warranty repair. Mid gig, it just stopped working. Lights were on & powered up, but no sound. Not even a hum. After weeks of nobody being able to fix it, Guitar center replaced it with a brand new one. Second one lasted a total of 6 gigs before I was embarrassed a second time. Same thing--just shut off mid song. Went back to GC & asked for credit toward a real sub. This thing is not worth the hassle. Don't risk your reputation as a DJ by buying sub par equipment. After doing some research I have come to learn that Mackie used to be made in Italy, but now is owned by Loud Technologies & made in Japan or China where quality control is severely lacking. Thank goodness we bought the extended warranty or we would have a $700 speaker stand. I have been a DJ for 10+ years & have used a lot of different equipment over the years. I was fooled by this sub because it sounds great in the store. Actually it sounds great overall, but it just doesn't last. I have been the only person using this sub since day 1 & I know it was NEVER abused or even close to maxed out. We do 90% weddings, so there is no hardcore rap, dubstep or techno. I'm gonna miss you Mackie. Call me when you get your act together. For now I am going all JBL. 5 year mfg warranty... no extra cost.

Great when it works!

By Michael Valdez

from Schererville,IN

I was in the market to buy a single sub to start with for the little places I dj at,and buy a second one a little later.I bought mine in Feb of 2012,a little over 1 month,it just went out,no clipping,in room of about 100 people.I also purchased the 2 year warranty, glad I did,so I sent it to my nearest repair place,Mackie Authorized of course, and it took almost 2 months to get back, something about the repair facility moving to a new location. After getting it back,it went out again 2 months later, this time it only took a week. This time around,it lasted 3 months, and went a third time, the first the thermal light came on,even though I didnt overload it,the 2 times after, just quit, after 3 hours. It is now Jan 2013,and the sub is about to go in for the third time!On NYE,it played for 3 or so hours, and gradually went out,it sounded like it had a loose speaker cord,I knocked on the amp a few times, sound came on,so after a few more times of doing this,I gave up,and now it doesnt work, again!Im extremely disappointed with this product, especially being such a well renowned piece of equipment. After this gets fixed,im selling it and getting something more reliable.Sadly, this is the story with a lot of new Mackie product out.

Great product but...

By Martin Anaya

from Morgan Hill CA.

I have no real issues with the product other than the knob broke off after the second use. No matter how careful you are in loading and unloading, if it bets bumped it will break. I super glued it back on but someone els broke it off. Mackie if your reading this, the consumer would be better off if the knob was recessed better.

This sub will not last

By Sabino Hernandez

from Houston

I purchased two of these Mackie SRM1801 subs. They were awesome the first 6 months but after that they have both quit on me during a gigs. Mackie has several dealers that repair them locally but it takes weeks for Mackie to send repair parts. DO NOT buy this sub.

I just got this MACKIE Sub at Guitar Center and it bangs. I originaly went to see the JBL eon sub but the MACKIE sub had way stonger bass hit. When i test things out i push it and the MACKIE won on sound and price. I have been a DJ for 17 years and this is one of the best sub i seen for the price. Good looking out MACKIE.

Uh...Wow.

By RG

from Newark, NJ

So...I am a comparative buyer (both by nature, and by daytime profession) so I did a lot of research on this unit, especially after doing a gig with my band at a club that housed to of these in their PA rig. I wanted to reinforce the bottom-end to my personal rig (since I Mobile-DJ part time as well as perform live) and......add some bottom is EXACTLY What i did with this. I bought the unit at a local Guitar Center and brought the box straight to my DJ gig that same night (without testing it or anything). As I expected, out of the box it came, and setup was so simple, it didn't even add more than 2-3 minutes to my overall set up time. (not to mention, surprisingly LIGHT for its size)...but don't let that fool you. This thing BUMPS!!!! I set this baby up on the floor in front of my rig....and from song 1...the thickness rattled through the large hall, and within seconds...the dancefloor was packed. This baby will send shockwaves through your chest. Mackie quality throughout, as far as i can tell...sturdy, but doesn't weigh a ton. Tough grill. In my opinion, I don't think there's a better buy for a sub at this price point for this quality. Stop reading reviews...and buy this thing if you feel like shaking the earth.

DJ

By Jasper

from Columbus, Ohio

I'm a DJ with 2 years of experience, and i needed a subwoofer, with good low-frequency for my 2 Electro-Voice ZX4's. I wasn't sure if the SRM1801 was going to do the job, since i've been reading some 1 star reviews about them lately, and I have a upcoming Prom to DJ. So, i made a risky decision to buy this SRM1801, and when i got home, i was blown away. The power, and the tight boom, made my whole garage shake, plus its not even that big. I would really recommend this Sub for anyone interested to buy a a cheap sub, with the full-package.
