WOW! That was my first thought when I first heard the ProFX. Mackie leaps into the future with an awesomely well-integrated USB audio interface. The big news here is the sound quality which is a huge step up from my previous Mackie board and M-Audio recording interface (fast track ultra). Stereo imaging is enhanced, bass is so tight, highs sound razor-sharp. Best of all the USB interface creates zero background noise, a problem with all analog mixing boards. I am blown away,

For the price point it certainly has a lot of features, multiple i/o, USB, effects, etc. Replacing our previous SoundCraft mixer with this unit, channel 2 had a noticeable hum, and moreover, channel 3/4 was dead on arrival. To further the Mackie upset, when finally hoping for something via the USB use, there is considerable hum present when using any signal via USB. The unit was isolated as our previous soundCraft model worked without any hum or problems using the same inputs. Used to love Mackie but the brand isn't what it used to be when I learned how to play guitar. Let it be known that after contacting Mackie, they are aware of the issue on the ProFX8 and were far too calm about saying that there is nothing they could do.

Good and Not So...

By JC

from Fl

Comments about Mackie ProFX8 Professional Compact Mixer:

I've used this mixing board once and noticed a mild hum when effects channel is in use. I've changed the effect to a different one and the noise goes away for a while but soon returns. It's rather disappointing to me after spending a couple of hundred dollars on this equipment. Everything else seems to work fine so far though. I will exchange it this week for a different one.

Mackies Quality has Tanked

By Okie6gun

About Me Professional Musician

Comments about Mackie ProFX8 Professional Compact Mixer:

I've bought several Mackie products over the years. I still own an old 1201 mixer that is built like a tank and works flawlessly and a DL1608 we still use. BUT, the quality in the last 2 products (FreePlay and a Profx8) have sucked. Pre gain pots worthless, 2 have failed and the 3rd is on its way out. Not sure why their quality tanked suddenly.... but avoid these 2 Mackie products.

    Defective right out of box

      Best Uses

Comments about Mackie ProFX8 Professional Compact Mixer:

Wanted small mixer with USB and Hi-Z input for home practice studio. Two people I asked in GC cited Mackie reputation and features. One warned against the possibility of a recent drop in quality control. Because the features of this one match my needs perfectly, I decide to take my chances. Mine was defective right out of the box. First thing I noticed was that the gain knob for channel 1 drops the volume to zero when setting is anywhere 6-8. Wiggling the gain knob made loud static an intermittent signal drop out. This really is shocking for a brand with such a great historical reputation, and very frustrating because now I have to go through a return process and find an alternative.

        Nice Mixer

Comments about Mackie ProFX8 Professional Compact Mixer:

Bought this to replace an aging Yamaha small mixer. This mixer has excellent build quality for the price range. I didn't expect it to perform like its $1,200.00 brothers but for the price, it can't be beat. It has all the features I need to supplement the master mixer and it can also be used as a standalone for small venues, home and small studio recording and even karaoke/DJ gigs. Sound quality is great and the built-in EQ and effects processor are a nice touch. Overall, this product is intended to be a multi-purpose multi-venue device that has all the features you expect from a Mackie product.

        Excellent Buy with Great Features

        By Roger

        from Little Compton, RI

Comments about Mackie ProFX8 Professional Compact Mixer:

My application was simple: (1) stereo keyboard; (1) electric guitar; (2) microphones. I wanted to mix all of the sources to create a recording in a PC, and I wanted to be able to control each individual input. The Mackie Pro FX8 was perfect for the job and works great. The audio output is clear and covers a wide dynamic range. Add special effects to each individual input and you have quite a powerful piece of equipment for a relative low price. I am very satisfied with this item.

        A good mixer

        By Mike Carey

        from Etters, Pa.

Comments about Mackie ProFX8 Professional Compact Mixer:

I've been using this mixer for a year now, in small venues, and it works great. I've even used it outdoors and had no problem. I get nice clear tone and the effects are pretty good. Operationally speaking, it's easy to understand and operate. The only problem I had was, finding rack ears to fit it. I ended up making my own. I wish they would come out with rack ears that fit it.

        Not Time worthy

        By Henry Monday

        from Dandridge, TN

Comments about Mackie ProFX8 Professional Compact Mixer:

A year ago bought one, was happy with it. Now it's useless, one of the channels has gone out, there's now hum on all the others. Mackie got cheap here, and when you buy cheap it's what you get. My advice, save a little more money and shop around. Avoid this unit at any cost. Even if Mackie offered me a new one, I would refuse it, it's not worth taking a chance on. Look at the Allen and Heath, or Yamaha mixers, even the Alesis mixers are better than this one.

        Nice for starters.

        By Henry

        from Dandridge, TN

Comments about Mackie ProFX8 Professional Compact Mixer:

I was looking for something that would be a good entry level mixer with USB recording capabilities. I found it. The sound is amazing, There is no manual as Mackie is trying to minimize it's environmental footprint, but there is plenty of PDF resources on the Mackie Website, this is important if you are like myself and starting out. The Tracktion software is easy to install and easy to operate, within minutes I was going through the menu's and making some basic recordings, Mic and Guitar....Eventually I will upgrade, the need for more channels will come further down the road. I would not hesitate to buy another Mackie product. It is as described, tough as a tank, and the components are quality, nothing cheap looking about this unit.
