I got the MACKIE - MIX 12FX to replace an old worn out 6 channel mixer with built in EQ. . . The Mackie is a better mixer in many ways, but it's far from perfect.! My old one was rack mountable, this one is NOT RACK MOUNTABLE.. It's way to small in width, being short at least 4 to 5 inches.. Also, it does NOT have a power switch on it, so you have to un-plug the power when your done, which makes it suck for studio use. Having said that, the seperation of left and right channel through the pan feature is very good, better than I had expected, in fact.! The sound is clear, and it makes a very good mixer for use on mix-down demo's or even for making "MIX C/D's" in place of the mix tapes of days gone by..! I did some D-J and Karaoke Jock work in the past, and this would be good for that kind of use for a low budget D-J.. Connect a good quality Amp, and a set of 12's or 15's, with a sub, and it would do a good job.. I have used this mixer at church for our Praise Band, I run the vocal mic's to this mixer, plug it in to our p/a as a sub mixer, feed the output to two channels on the p/a board, run the guitar amp mic's directly to the p/a inputs, and the six drum mic's go on seperate channels from a 6 port snake, which is reduced to two channel's. All in all, I get 4 vocal, 3 guitars, 6 drums, a EmCee's Mic, and 4 mic's from the house for live effect, run in to a 12 channel p/a system with one channel left open.. All of this gets two feed lines to a bridged 800 watt crown amp that is nearly as old as I am and it never gets hot.! That amp feeds two 15' and two 12's, and four stage monitors... It's got all the power we will ever need... ok, so back to the Mackie Mix 12FX.. I don't like that it only has four (4) mic inputs that our pre-amped and balanced, I don't like the combined "stereo" channels from 5 through 12, it could have done just as well with 12 inputs and 6 mic pre-amps the cost increase would have been very little for the value it would have added to the mixer. A side effect of that would have been a wider foot print, which would have made it a rack mountable mixer! As far as would I recommend it to a friend.? That would depend on how they were going to use it, and what they needed, or expected out of it... For what it is, it's a good mixer, but if you're building a home studio, spend a little more, and get a 16 or 24 track mixer, you'll be much better off.. But if you want to rock the local club / bar, have a three piece band, or karaoke set up, then this will work fine, and will not break the bank doing it...

I bought this after our old mixer started to develope dead areas.. This mixer was a waste of money. I'm the sound guy and guitarist for a church band. We used the new, mix 12/fx mixer three times, it was never out doors, never dropped, stored in the box, and it quit working for no reason, 97 days after it arrived.! Our old mixer lasted 12 years, and cost less new, than the Mackie mix12fx, did.! And of corse, Guitar Center would NOT stand behind it.! They would NOT even help us to return it for repair.! So I will NOT buy another one of these, or any other Mackie Products, and what ever I do buy, will be from someone who does believe in CUSTOMER SUPPORT..NOT GUITAR CENTER.. So it's now in the supply closet, wasting space, and money..! Thank You G/C for recommending JUNK..!

Comments about Mackie Mix12FX 12-Channel Compact Mixer with Effects:

Purchased for Video Production laying down multiple interview tracks into Final Cut Pro X. Works fine and being able to mix in some light background music was a breeze. Except for the annoying hum from the Phantom Power.

Comments about Mackie Mix12FX 12-Channel Compact Mixer with Effects:

I use this mixer in conjunction with a boss L1 for live performance. Mixer is brighter overall
than the soundcraft it replaced . Digital effects are great and eq is very responsive.
The only problem is the phantom power introduces a noise into the mix when used

Comments about Mackie Mix12FX 12-Channel Compact Mixer with Effects:

I bought the Mix12FX 12-Channel Compact Mixer with Effects to feed into a Fender Expo System (2 Channel speaker system). I brought it home unpacked it, plugged in a guitar and an ipad and fired it right up. It was pretty good. Not great but decent enough not to return. The primary problem was the FX would clip at high inputs. Other than that, I was pretty happy. After a couple of months of playing once or twice a week, everything went south. It just quit. A couple of things to note...I never moved it. I always turned it down prior to turning it on or off. I powered everything through a surge protector (BECAUSE IT DOES NOT HAVE A POWER SWITCH). So, I do not know why it quit. I will try to work with Mackie to fix it because it is well within the 12 month warrantee. One other thing to note...the A/C power supply (on the plug) IS HUGE. It covered 3 plugs on my surge protector. So to recap...I was happy except for the lack of an on/off switch and the size of the A/C Adaptor right up until it broke for no apparent reason. I hope this helps.

Comments about Mackie Mix12FX 12-Channel Compact Mixer with Effects:

I currently play in an acoustic duo, and bought this to replace an older Behringer that I had given to me. I tested it in my studio, and after about five minutes I found the FX unusable. When I put even the smallest signal through them, the reverbs had a ringing, feedback sound coming through. It was on the firsts few reverb patches, which were the ones I would probably have used the most. I can't comment on other aspects because didn't get that far.
I chose to spend an extra $100 and got the Allen & Heath ZED10, and feel it was totally worth it. I have other Mackie gear and like it, just not this piece. If I went with Mackie, I'd probably chose another line of mixers.

      Perfect for my needs

      By Terry

      from undisclosed

      Verified Buyer

Comments about Mackie Mix12FX 12-Channel Compact Mixer with Effects:

I needed a secondary mixer for several reasons:
      - add 2-3 extra channels to my existing 8-channel setup
      - use for smaller events of 2-3 channels going to a single speaker-amp
      - phantom power and local control of my levels and EQ

I thought phantom power would be just a frill, but it's come in very handy when working with a fiddler who needs phantom. This is a well engineered little unit, light weight and easy to use. It's got pretty much everything you could need for a smaller setup.

It's also come in handy when the main board is running low on channels. I can really "channel up" with some of my instruments: the accordion ideally wants two channels, ideally the keyboard will have the bass and treble ranges separated, and then the mandolin! When the house system is limited, a small but decent quality 8-input mixer really gives you room to breathe.

It's also been great for smaller gigs when all I really need is 3 channels (e.g., piano, violin, and vocal) into a 100 watt keyboard amp or similar. My Roland keyboard amp in fact has 4 channels, but that's all. Actually, now I have a newer, lightweight amp called the Roland Street EX which weighs 1/3 of the old unit but only has the two channels. When mated with the Mackie mixer, it's a pretty good combo. Again, we're talking small venues.

If you trade up to the ProFX12, for roughly double the price, you get a slightly more sophisticated unit that includes USB output. Unfortunately, the ProFX12's USB does not send the 12 channels separately but only sends a stereo mix, which is why I decided to save my money and stick with the more basic mixer. Eventually I'd like to get a 16 channel digital model that has that feature and thus would be very useful for recording purposes.

In the meantime, this little unit has already proven itself in the field and I am very satisfied so far. I spend more than this on a Samson 4-channel mini-mixer a number of years ago but the Mackie far surpasses it.
