Overview

The Mackie MR8 Reference Studio Monitor delivers truly professional audio quality and everything you need for critical monitoring”at a price that's unbelievably affordable. Wide, even dispersion means a broad sweet spot, minimizing funny dips or peaks in frequency response when you move off axis. MR8 monitors deliver superior bass extension”tight and free from distortion”so your lows pack just the right amount of punch. To ensure the best sound possible for your setup, Mackie MR Series monitors feature acoustic controls so you can tune them to fit your room. With their active biamplified architecture, wide dispersion, ultra-flat frequency response, and outstanding bass performance, you get superior imaging with impeccable clarity, for a truly inspirational, non-fatiguing monitoring experience.

Mackie MR Series monitors achieve their transparent sound quality thanks to these key design elements:

Mackie Minimum-Diffraction Molded Baffle:
When it comes to baffle design, shape matters; it plays a role in how sound waves travel. Mackie's baffle is precisely molded to minimize diffraction, so sound waves radiate smoothly, and are dispersed optimally. Mackie's precision waveguide is designed to ensure broad, even dispersion, and a smooth transition between highs and lows. The result is a crystal-clear image of your mix, with an ultra-wide, even sweet spot. Whether you're in mix position or not, on axis or off, you'll always hear an accurate representation of your mix.

Amplifier Design:
Amplifiers are the power behind a monitor's sound, but they can also color it. Unlike with passive monitors, Mackie's amplifiers are precisely matched to the monitor design. Featuring Mackie's proven Class A/B architecture, the MR Monitors' amplifiers are meticulously tuned to deliver ultraflat frequency response, so the sound remains neutral. To compensate for room characteristics, acoustic controls allow you to adjust High Frequency and Low Frequency settings (±2dB). Balanced inputs allow you to get the best signal possible, but the option of unbalanced inputs mean you can connect easily to any source. And MR Monitors deliver enough power to handle the toughest source material, at sound levels beyond sane people's requirements.

Cabinet:
A speaker's cabinet is more than just an enclosure”it's another component that affects the overall quality and character of the sound. Mackie's cabinet features a rear port, carefully tuned to deliver superior bass performance with no audible vent noise. Because air passes through the precisely engineered curved port easily, there is no distortion, and no buildup of pressure within the cabinet that could affect driver movement. The rigidity of the cabinet's precision-braced MDF construction also prevents vibration, meaning your sound is always free from unwanted resonance.

Transducers:
Transducers are responsible for converting your electrical signal into sound. So consistent, unwavering performance is a must if you want sonic clarity. Mackie specifically creates ultralow distortion steel frame woofers and waveguide-loaded silk dome tweeters to work perfectly in concert with all the components in each MR monitor. You get a precisely tuned monitor that performs with impeccable consistency.

Applications
MR Series Monitors are ideal for a variety of applications. Use the MRs to empower your mixes in the studio, or to add pro sound to your multimedia, gaming or home theatre system. You can even use them for a great-sounding home DJ rig. The MR5 and MR8 Monitors share the same design, so they function great together, too, making them optimal for multiple monitor setups”just add a Big Knob”as well as surround systems. For any applications where high-quality sound and classic good looks are required, MR monitors are the perfect fit.

Mackie's Reputation Speaks for Itself
With every product Mackie releases into the wild”from monitors to loudspeakers to mixers”they up the ante on performance, reliability, and affordability. Mackie's innovation and commitment to great sound is why so many of their products are top sellers, and why Mackie's gear has legions of enthusiastic devotees.

Tracktion 3 Music Production Software
The MR8 also comes with Tracktion 3 Music Production Software which doesn™t make you bounce around endless menus and windows to make music. Based on a simple, single-screen interface, the award-winning Tracktion 3 is a fast, powerful, and complete solution for turning your ideas into finished songs. It comes a plethora of power and plug-ins to keep your music flowing”not locked in menus or limitations.

Perfect for my home studio

By Steve B

from Crossville, TN

On arrival, I recieved a DOA on one monitor and exchanged it at the local guitar center 65 miles away, besides that... these monitors are great. These monitors have a flat EQ that truly represents your music the way it is meant to be heard. There is no coloring of the audio except for how you can tune the monitors to your room with the Bass and Treble switches. These monitors get loud. I have never turned the volume up more than 50% and that is more volume than I will ever need. In conclusion, you can't go wrong with these monitors, your mixes will come out great everytime whether you are a hobbyist or professional.

Great Sounding Monitor

By Erick Pozos

from Hillsboro, OR

I bought one of this for my mixes and i fell in love with it. has a nice warm bass with good highs and mids. I can't stop listening to these. Mackie did a very good job on the design. One thing i would change about these speakers is the rear power switch. Other than that, this speaker is perfect. And now i can't wait to get the second one.

This monitor is great in most every way ... It offers clean crisp and powerful sound. You hear the sound whether it's the hihats, bass, guitar or keyboard with clear understanding and representation. The price is easy on the wallet.... The size is perfect for my console and not too bad to look at either .... all i would ask is that it not look so boring.... add some color

An awesome Buy

By Peter

from Davie, Florida

The Monitors are ready to go out of the box. I've been a musician for over 25 years and these monitors are outstanding for the price. They are without question a great buy. I use them for home recording and when I go on location as reference monitors for mixing and recording live. The only thing I would change is the power button to the side or top of the monitors.

Best budget monitors you can buy

By Keith

from st clair shores, michigan

Let me just start, these are not $1000 jbls. But unless you have the money for jbls, these are the best things you can buy. I've A/B'd these with tons of other monitors and these have the truest sound you will get. They get just as loud as you need them to, and than can push up a bit more. Both quiet and loud the mix is perfectly clear. For under a grand I wouldn't trust my mixes on anything else.

This offers clear clean sound as a good reference point for mixing. But I like that this also fits comfortably in my small studio space. An excellent reference monitor for the price.

AMAZAZING

By Dave Stanfill

from Manchester, NH

These reference monitors will deliver you the best mixes ever in your home/small stuido. IF you have a good 1/3 octave EQ like the Alesis DEQ230D and your studio tuned and dampened correctly your mixes will sound like a million dollars! The monitors are extremely accurate and deliver whether the volume level is low or high. I do my mixes at a lower volume and these monitors really perform. I have to recommended these monitors to all my recording engineer friends

Affordable Must-Have

By Leo

from Huntingdon Valley, Pennslyvania

Out the box, hooked up to my m-box mini and no extra adjustments needed in the back - first mix and perfect. I've been mixing with the Mackie HR824's for about 9 yrs and loved them but I always had to cut the bass in the back so that when my mix is done it would have the right amount of bass and highs and also so I could level the vocals correctly. But with the MR8's - it's out the box ready with the settings all on normal sounding great and just the right amount of low's, Hi's and Mids for my mix. Wow!!! Mackie did it with this one I love it. Oh yeah you can boost the low's & the hi's in the back if you needed more but it's perfect for me and I definitely would recommend this product to even beginners it's great and affordable - A Must Have Product. Wooooo!!!! Tight Lows, Crisp Hi's, Smooth Bass and a delicious sound over all. Trust me it's worth it and you're gonna love it like I do. I have no dislikes about it except maybe that the power button is in the back but that's not enough in comparison with the sound quality and great look that over shadows that."
