As a professional studio monitoring solution, MRmk2s are extremely balanced, outputting a high-frequency clarity and midrange definition you can stake your reputation on. They out-power any competitively priced monitor and deliver deeper, more accurate bass than anything in their class. Perfect for professional and home studios, as well as home theaters and multimedia applications, MRmk2 monitors deliver a rich sonic experience and the power, performance and clarity you need to create world-class mixes.
All-new professional transducers
MRmk2 Series studio monitors feature all-new professional transducers specifically designed to meet the demands of the modern project studio. The neodymium magnet-driven silk dome tweeter is both smooth and accurate, featuring ferro-fluid cooling to help protect against power compression during wide dynamic playback. The hyperbolic curved cone woofer, inverted dust cap, and long voice coil windings work in tandem to deliver smooth, consistent output with controlled low frequency performance. When paired with Mackie’s precision-tuned amplifiers, MRmk2 monitors provide spot-on input-to-output tuning that you can take to the bank.
Precision power amplifiers
The dual precision Class A/B amplifiers have been re-voiced to specifically match their new driver components, ensuring that your sound is minimally impacted by distortion, artifacts or changes in frequency response often imparted by working at a variety of volume levels. MRmk2 Series monitors are a 2-way design that offers up to 150 watts of total system power. Delivering more power than anything in their class, MRmk2 studio monitors provide exceedingly smooth output, from ultra-low bass frequencies to precise midrange and sparkling highs.
Custom waveguide and baffle
An optimally-sized custom waveguide is designed to maximize sonic clarity and dispersion, while also serving to minimize diffractions. This approach allows for seamless transition of HF and LF content along with a 3-dimensional sense of space. MRmk2 monitors also feature a molded baffle to impart superior imaging and depth. Your monitors need to be as accurate as they are great-sounding, and the MRmk2 design philosophy gives you exactly that.
Top-notch cabinet design
Everything even down to the cabinet design of MRmk2s are handled with the utmost attention to detail. The sleek-looking MRmk2 cabinets feature custom-tuned rear ports, allowing for the controlled passage of air in and out. The cabinets are constructed of solid MDF, so there’s no unwanted distortion from air movement or vibrations. Transducers are never restricted by pressure, and the cabinets resonate low for deep, balanced bass.

Near-field is kind of a misleading term. One would think you could put these right in front of your face at 10 and 2 and it will sound amazing. What you should do is set these about 4 feet away from your face, and widen them 1-2 feet off both shoulders pointed towards your ears, and man you will love these! Great balance, great sound stage, the bass is there but not muddy or over bearing. You can hear the kick drum and the air pushing! As nature intended. I consider myself critical when it comes to sound separation and representation, and these are accurate. Enjoy.
GO BUY THESE THEY ARE AWESOME! I just created an account so I could write this review. I tell you, my mixes translate well everywhere I play my stuff on. The bass is nice and punchy like people say but not to much. the highs are right on, and the whole frequency spectrum in between sounds like level and flat and smoothe all the way from top to bottom. I love these Mackies, I praise them often, I always reccomend them now. Theyre a brand known for being tough and reliable and that holds true with my experience. Just thought I would give my 2 cents in and give these some praise on here! GO BUY THESE THEY ARE AWESOME!
I have a professional KORG PA2xpro keyboard arranger and I was frustrated with my keyboard amp's failure to accurately reproduce the full range of sounds/frequencies that I routinely hear through my $100 headphones. The sounds that were the most lacking in my $200+ keyboard amp were piano, strings, and percussion. After a thorough review of keyboard forums, I discovered that the optimum choice for me for a home setup in a small room were powered studio active monitors. So I read every review I could find in the $300 per pair range and after comparing them at a local Guitar Center, I felt that the Mackie MR5mk2's with their 5.25" woofers offered the best sound reproduction with ample bass stood out from the others. My only concern was how they would sound in my own home. Well, I must say that they have lived up to their promise! Don't need the headphones any more to hear those crisp piano, strings, and percussion sounds. Can play for the enjoyment of others now without worrying about putting out a less than adequate sound.
These monitors are the best I've personally owned. Listening to music with these monitors is so revealing and such a great pleasure. I'm proud of these monitors and glad that I bought them. The only thing is that I bought them restock so I had to wait a few weeks to get them. Other than that I couldn't be happier with them.
I love these audio monitors, the sound is impresive and Im using them plugged to my line 6 ux2 audio interface. best combo ever...
I'll be the FIRST to admit it. I hate going to Guitar Center. All the employees are "in a band" & they all act like they know everything until you start asking real questions. I could go on & on but I'll spare those who know what I'm talking about. I usually order online or elsewhere all together but I had to bite the bullet & go hear these speakers in person. Nobody else around had them so, the usual & predictable annoyances aside, I'm glad I did. These Mackies are just amazing. Pay no mind that they happen to be one of the more affordable models, they're still Mackies. If you buy a BMW, it's still a BMW...know what I mean? In fact, I owned a pair of Events a couple years back that cost twice as much & I feel like a fool. I listened to several others at similar price points and no others sounded better or were more well built. Mackie is, without a doubt, the king of sound. They take great pride in their workmanship and it shows. These are clear, accurate, balanced, powerful...not to mention gorgeous but lots of monitors have those qualities. What others don't have is that hard-to-describe quality that makes you just go WOW. In the $500 or less per speaker class, these are, in my humble opinion, the best. For those of you who dread going to a Guitar Center like I do, I think you'll be glad you did if you end up coming home with these.
When I first used these speakers they would turn themselves off after ten minutes. There is no included manual, so I thought one was defective and returned it. Later I found the manual online and learned about the overheat protection mechanism. Apparently (the manual doesn't mention this), these speakers(I've had three now) will overheat when brand new, but after a few days of use they are fine. Thus the four stars, not five. They have not turned themselves off in over a week now. As for the sound quality, it is truly impressive. Full, rich and flat reproduction. Bassy, but not too much bass. They just sound awesome!
After doing a lot of research on the internet before getting a 5 inch pair of Monitors I narrowed it to 5 options; Rokit 5, Mackie MR5mk2, Mackie MR5 (old one),Yamaha HS50M and M audio Bx5a. When I went to guitar center I listened to each one of them and let me tell ya that I was surprised that the rokit 5 sounded terrible, Bx5a monitors have bad quality too you need to get the guarantee for sure, the Mackies MR5 (old one) were good for the price however they didn't have them in-stock, the Yamahas HS50M sounded AMAZING !!! even a little bit better than the Mackies MR5mk2 however the Yamahas are more expensive and I am on low budget right now so I got the Mackies MR5mk2 and no regrets at all !!!, they sound freaking amazing and they look amazing too, I highly recommend them.
I just traded out my Bx5a's and there is no comparison. These are so crystal clear it's not even funny. They are a perfect mixing speaker. I would highly recommend these monitors.
