The Mackie 1600W HD1801 18" powered subwoofer is an excellent companion to the HD Series full-range loudspeakers, creating an immensely powerful and truly high-definition PA system that you can actually transport from gig to gig. Class-D Fast Recovery amplification makes the HD1801 ultra-efficient, effortlessly delivering massive power to the 18" driver that's custom-designed to handle the job. Expertly tweaked tuning filters, internal crossovers, and protection circuitry are designed by EAW for the ultimate in professional performance. Take your Mackie HD (or any other) full-range system to the next level with the Mackie HD1801 Powered Subwoofer.

A Massive System in a Snap
Pair HD1801 subwoofers with HD1531 full-range loudspeakers for an excellent portable, high-definition PA system. The precision-tuned HD1801 is the perfect match for the HD1531, with a high-pass output specifically designed to alleviate the power-hungry low frequencies from getting to your top boxes, allowing them to do what they do best. This powerful HD system features tons of protective circuitry like peak and RMS limiting and over-excursion/thermal protection to keep the sound pumping at all costs.

Power and Agility
The HD1801 powered subwoofer delivers 1600 watts of peak power using Mackie's Class-D Fast Recovery amplification. Class-D amps allow for extremely high-output in a design that is much lighter than traditional amplifiers. It's also really compact, which means you might even be able to carry it all by yourself. Plus, our Fast Recovery design allows the amplifier to recover more quickly when pushed into clipping. This means less distortion when things get too loud.

Tweaked and Tuned
Mackie has once again called on the sonic geniuses over at EAW to make the HD1801 the most punchy, chest-pounding subwoofer in its class. The ported, direct-radiating design means super-low frequency extension that is smooth and powerful. EAW also custom specified the 18" driver to work in perfect harmony with the amplifier. The woofer is designed to soak up each and every bit of power the amp puts out. Precision phase control and tuning filters make the HD1801 subwoofer speaker the perfect companion to the HD1531, especially when using the high-pass outputs. A finely tuned, phase-aligned. and undeniably professional PA system is just a couple of patches away.

Size matters
Most stages are pretty small, so Mackie decided to incorporate rigging points onto the HD1801 speaker. Flying subs clears up tons of floor space and makes it look pretty darn impressive. You can even flip off thr trademark "Mackie Blue" LED on the front if you want the HD1801 subwoofer to blend seamlessly into the background. Some of you are going to have to transport this guy from show to show. That's why the HD1801 embodies Mackie's "Built-Like-A-Tank" philosophy and is certifiably roadworthy. First off, the enclosure is built using 15mm birch. Wood is not only more durable than plastic, but delivers a more natural sound. It's also covered in durable textured black paint that minimizes the risk of scratching. The grill is equally robust, made using powder coated steel and flush with the enclosure to avoid denting. Throw in the fact that is one of the most compact subwoofers available and you've got an ultra-professional bass bin that can be tossed in the back of even a sub-compact.

Comments about Mackie HD1801 Powered Subwoofer:

This sub worked for about a minute and from then on goes into thermal overload and does not work. Mackie support was of no help. Their authorized repairs shops did not want to deal with it and had nothing but bad things to say about Mackie. Cant return it cant get it repaired even though fully under warranty.
I love Mackie products, have many and will continue to buy Mackie. But this one has been a disappointment.

Comments about Mackie HD1801 Powered Subwoofer:

Worked for about a minute. Soon as you apply signal, it goes into Thermal Overload. Mackie cant do anything. Their authorized repair shops don't want to deal with it as they do not want to deal with Mackie. Speaker is brand new :(
What a waste. Still will buy Mackie gear as I have several hundred Mackie products. Just bad luck I guess

          Worst money I ever spent

          By Joshua Austill

          from Billings, MT

Comments about Mackie HD1801 Powered Subwoofer:

I bought 2 of these, the first one died after 6 uses, just stopped making any noise whatsoever. After a BATTLE with mackie tech support they warrantied it and sent me a new one. After 12 or so uses the second one blew at about 1/4 volume. Mackie tech support says they don't cover blown speakers, so I have a paperweight now. What a waste of money.

          Very nice subwoofer

Comments about Mackie HD1801 Powered Subwoofer:

I bought (10) of these and man do they sound great! Before I purchased these, I did a lot of research and this model got slammed by a bunch of people. I have been a Mackie fan for a long time and a lot of success with other subs and speakers from them. Before a slapped down some serious cash on these, I had to call Loud Technologies to find out why there were problems with this model. The tech told me that they had a few problems with the initial run and that all has been corrected. Subs are tricky. Some guys will buy just one sub and crank it way past what its capable of and blow them up. If you have just one sub and your trying to make your band sound like a Metallica concert, forget it! I recently did a festival for 5,000 people using (8) HD1801s & (8) HDA line arrays and it sounded great! I had multiple musicians come up to me and remark how clean and punchy my rig sounded. The drums were slammin and the vocals cut through like a hot knife through butter! If you looked at these subs then got scared of the reviews, take another look.

          Problems Problems Problems

          By james

          from new orleans

Comments about Mackie HD1801 Powered Subwoofer:

I have several Mackie powered speakers and have been very happy with their line....that was until I bought some HD1801 subs. While they sounded great at the beginning they have given me numerous problems. On the 2nd use one of the speakers thermal overload lights came on and remained lite even when where was no signal present. This was brought back to the store and swapped out with another. After a short time (about 6 gigs) both speakers began to give me problems and have only produced a muted and distorted sound since. I am still waiting to see what Mackie is going to do and their support has been weak at best. I have 2 of the SR1501 subs and have pushed them HARD for several years and have never had a problem with either. Hopefully this is an issue that Mackie will resolve, but I would avoid these subs until something is fixed. On a side note I also have a pair of the HD1531's and love them. Very crisp and clean at high volumes although Mackie's slow response to sort me out has me leaning against ever buying another Mackie product.

          Better than the 1801z

          By DJ&Sound

          from Milwaukee

Comments about Mackie HD1801 Powered Subwoofer:

I own 2 of these subs & 2 1801z subs. The sound that I'm getting from my HD1801 versus my 1801z subs is far better and fuller. When first purchased I plugged one of these in, turned it up, and my whole venue started to vibrate. The weight is also quite nice since they're about 20 lbs. less than the 1801z, making it much easier to carry. A good bonus if you're mostly doing set up by yourself.I will say that although I haven't had any, I have heard of a lot of people having tech issues with these subs as the previous reviewer states. Also, these subs are not as durably built as the 1801z - those things are tanks. The same can be said about the HD1532 mains vs. the older mains. But the sound quality is definitely better.

          Peerless Piss-Poor Performance

          By Martin

          from SF Bay Areas

Comments about Mackie HD1801 Powered Subwoofer:

I own and run fourteen 18" Mackie subwoofers and four 1532 towers. I recently (Sept 20101) added two of the HD 1600 watt subs to the rig for a festival job I had. One did not even work when I first plugged it in, the other stopped working the next day. When it did work, and I compared it to the older SWA 1801, it lacked warmth and punch. Seriously, these speakers are a joke. They are designed to give the "feeling" of being big, but totally lack substance. I returned the two and got the older "18"'s. Later I found out from the shop that sold them that alot of the new HD equipment has been returned....
