I bought this originally about 3 years ago to use as a monitor amp, but when my bass head blew the night before a show I ended up using this with a preamp to run my rig. It's been there since. I run a peavy bassist with it into my Eden cabs and have never had a problem. More than enough power for my needs. I always run it bridged mono @ 4ohms and have never had an issue. 3 years running and it's held up great. For the money it's a nice quiet amp. If it blew one day I would buy another.
I was recently at guitar center looking for an decent amp and quality for a reasonable price. That amp was the mackie FR-800. If you're on a tight budget it's the way to go when comparing with other amps in it's class. It rocks and haven't disappointed yet.
If your looking for a serious amp, don't even think about buying this! Go with something with more wattage, nicer, better brand, and less expensive for what you get!
Bang for the buck, the Mackie has just about everything on this end of the market beat. It doesn't color the sound at all, just pure clean power! I probably wouldn't recommend it without an EQ, but paired up with one, this amp sounds great. I was using a QSC RMX850 before and this definately sounds tons better. Now I want the FR1400.
