The Mackie CFX20 Mixer is a great mixer to own. I have had this for 4 years and it is has never broken down. The sound quality is awesome and it also gives you an array of FX to choose from. I would reccomend this mixer to anyone who is recording or performing live. The extra channels really come in handy when you are doing a live setup. Very great mixer and worth the money.
I'm sorry you found this board to be dissapointing. However actually if you read the owners manual you will discover that you MUST route all of your channels through a subgroup before it hits the main fader. I just saw this board for the 1st time yesterday and could not believe I could not get the main output to work without using an auxilliary or a subgroup. However THIS board forces you to use one or the other to get a signal out to MAIN MIX. It is an unusual manner to operate a mixer but it is the way this board is designed. I called Mackie Tech Support to verify that what I was seeing is TRUE and it is. I hope now you may reconsider returning the board. There is NOTHING wrong with it. Just an unusual manner to operate it. Unusual because most of us are not used to mixers operating this way.
Fresh out of the box and the main fader does not work. We checked the monitors first, and it sounded great, and we were messing with the effects and were excited to jam...and then the mains would not work. We wasted over and hour troubleshooting even though it was obvious that the board was defective. Not sure if we want a Mackie anymore. This is going to be a huge pain sending it back in, and we really need this board NOW!
Best bang for the buck. Anyone that has engineered sound knows how good Mackie preamps are. The built in FX are not bad at all. They work wonderfully for live sound, although I would use something else for recording. This has worked flawlessly now for about 5 years, using QSC power amps, and upper end Peavey mids and subs, beta 58's, and an array of keys etc.. I would recommend this board to anyone. With a nice hard case, it travels well. 4 out of 5 stars, because you have to do your homework to use it, and the FX are good but not great!
