Revolutionary 2-part, modular FireWire computer recording system!

The Onyx Satellite FireWire Recording System features a sleek, portable FireWire recording pod and dedicated Base Station. The FireWire bus-powered recording pod has two premium Onyx preamps and top-notch 24-bit/96kHz capable A/D and D/A converters. The Pod easily secures into place on the Base Station for A/C power and additional I/O, turning the system into a two-input, six-output FireWire audio interface with an advanced input-patching matrix, talkback, monitoring, and surround speaker control. The Satellite System's two inputs can be switched between mic, instrument or balanced line input sources, and its six-channel volume control provides for surround sound mixing. Its control room section provides for switching between two separate monitor outputs for multiple monitor speaker setups. Both Mac and PC compatible, the Satellite System works with all ASIO and Core Audio compatible software. It comes bundled with a full version of Mackie's award-winning Tracktion 2 software, providing a complete out-of-the-box recording setup with professional features like a 64-bit high-definition mix engine, unlimited track count, ReWire and VST support, MIDI controller mapping, external synchronization, and integrated support for Mackie Control Universal and C4 control surfaces. Also included is a full set of Mackie's Mixing and Mastering plug-ins.

  • Best Small Interface!!!!

As reviewed by audiogeek007 on 5/2/2007

Mackie has hit a home run w/ this product. The ONYX Satellite has far superior preamps compared to the rest of the junk in this price range. It has pristine AKM A/D converters that sound excellent at 96kHz. The portable pod and docking station are a great feature for songwriters. There is nothing on the market right now that offers the superior performance of the Satellite for even a fraction of the cost. This is the best small interface on the market PERIOD!

  • no firewire, no problems....

As reviewed by Lil drunmerboy on 6/6/2007

I bought my satellite from GC a month ago when the price dropped. I have an Onyx 1620 and needed 2 extra preamps. I had an Audio Buddy but traded up cuz the price and they look cool next to each other. I use a Korg D888 to record so I don't have any firewire/OS issues. For $200 I got a well constructed set of preamps...

  • Honestly...

As reviewed by DSF on 3/20/2007

I would honestly like to tell you that I returned the first one thinking it was a defective unit, but I was so wrong. Windows XP would not recognize the docking station and after a number of tries, I took it back, not knowing that the updated driver along with installing it using firewire bus power ONLY solved my particular issue. The pre amps are amazing and I used to get clicks and pops using an M-Audio Fast Track Pro USB interface, but that is all a memory now. I sold my Fast Track Pro due to a lot of problems and CPU usage on my PC was the biggest issue, but I am SO glad I chose this over the presonus firesnot, I mean FIREBOX...hehe. The features and sound out-weigh anything in this price range and up to $400.00. Get it while it is only $200.00 before they figure out that this thing smokes everything in its price range! There should be way more reviews for this thing...MACKIE BABY!!!
