  • Amazing piece of interface

As reviewed by binaryhazard on 7/17/2006

I've tried toneport and tascam fw 1082, none of them come close to things. I just got this from guitar center last night with some monster cable. I am glad that I bought this item. It's headphone amp is best i've heard comparing to other interface i've heard from, and it's true 24bit 192khz. For 700 bucks, I think it's best value out there. I really love it.

  • Onyx 400F did not live up to my expectations...

As reviewed by Disappointed purchaser on 10/20/2006

If you are trying to decide which audio interface is best for you, you should first decide how it will be primarily used. If you are just getting one for the digital to analog converters like I was, then the Mackie Onyx 400F seems like a logical fit. However, I would never suggest buying this piece of gear unless you enjoy listening to a high pitch whine well above the noise floor. I was completely dissapointed as soon as it was connected. If anyone were to do a quick search they would find thousands of unsatisfied customers just like me. I guess all those features, good mic pres, and awesome converters at such a low price actually were too good to be true.

  • Works Great for Me!

As reviewed by KC on 1/15/2007

This is a very nice sounding interface and perhaps perfect for the home studio. While I don't have much experience with high-end preamps, I do have plenty of experience with "prosumer" pres and these are the best I have personally come across in my limited budget. They have a beautiful clarity to them which was something of a revelation to me. As an audio interface it has been solid even on my old G4 (500mhz) & Logic. I have read that some people have trouble with a high pitch wine (a firewire problem not exclusive to this interface) but I have not had that problem. I also own and use MOTU 828mkII with my other setup. I think the MOTU is a fine interface as well with its own plusses but the preamps just can't compare to the Onxy in detail. All in all I am very happy with the 400f and even consider trading my 828 for a second 400f.
