The Mackie Onyx 1640 16-Channel Mixer is a premium 16-channel, 4-bus small-format analog mixer. It features all-new circuitry including 16 boutique-class Onyx mic preamps with 4-band Perkins EQ plus sweepable mids on mic/line channels. Too many features to list

What can I say, I use this in my home studio and it's the cornerstone of my place. Six aux sends, great eq section, tons of headroom from these great preamps. You can't find a mixer like this anywhere for the money. Definatly by a firewire card, the quality of the recordings sound fantastic on my G5, and this thing works really well with Apple's Logic Pro. I'd recommend this to anyone from new producers, to a pro's home studio.

Why choose anything else?

I bought the Mackie Onyx 1640 about a year ago and I could not be happier. I use it in my project studio and it has brought my work to a whole new level, a professional studio quality level. No matter where you are in the profession, this mixer will blow your mind. You cannot find preamps of this calibur on any other mixers even close to this price. Believe me I did my research, as should you. Also, it would be wise of you to purchase the firewire card, this will save you money in the future. But do be careful when installing the card, mine didn't exactly slide right in, there are several wires that get in the way and it takes some tough maneuvering, so do be careful when attempting this. One thing that I really enjoy in this mixer is that the first two channels are equipped with HI-Z inputs, specially designed for the high-impedence pickups on guitars. it's an innovative mixer that can hang with the big dogs. Enjoy!
