Digital mixing from your iPad through the Lightning connector.

The DL1608L is a 16-channel mixer with revolutionary wireless iPad control that makes any live sound engineer’s job and workflow much more enjoyable and exciting. This latest version of the series features a Lightning connector, replacing the 30-pin version. The Lightning connection is smaller and faster than 30-pin. The "L" delineation in the model name indicates the Lightning connector.

With 16 high-quality Onyx microphone preamps, 24-bit Cirrus Logic AD/DA converters, and powerful internal DSP processing, the DL1608L has plenty of unmatched hardware power to support the extremely intuitive user interface of the iPad. There is an iPad dock built-into the unit should you choose to use it in it’s standard mixing form, or you can simply pop the iPad out of the dock to freely move about the venue to adjust your mix at will with the use of an additional Wi-Fi router. You’ll have Full hands-on control of audio level, 4-band EQ, compression, gate, delay, reverb, and more for each of the DL1608’s 16 channels and master fader. Perfect for a wide variety of smaller applications and venues, the DL806 is the most modern, powerful utility mixer available. Forget bulky consoles and racks of gear. The power is at your fingertips.

  • Good idea, features need some love

As reviewed by Todd on 12/14/2014

I purchased a new DL1608L and love the idea of being able to mix/share mixing remotely and record performances via iPad. The controls are responsive, the presets are decent and channel assignments are intuitive. The four things I don't care for... I had to purchase a new tray for the new iPad, Mackie should provide this for free, it's a stupid plastic shell that cost about $40. It's a pisser they make you buy that separate, so calculate that in your purchase price if you have a newer iPad. The recording feature is limited to L/R stereo, although the new 32 channel version does support multitrack recording for what I was able to uncover online. I'd be really surprised if this is wasn't a software issue, and I hope Mackie extends multitrack recording in the near future to the 16 and 8 channel versions. When you dock your iPad the first time the system forces a firmware update on the board, this I discovered rendered the iPhone app MyFader useless until an update is provided from Mackie, I check the app store daily and nothing to update so far. The last thing is the Phantom power switch did not work on the unit I purchased, I use condenser mics and really needed that feature to work only to find out at gig time the PP switch on my board wouldn't turn on, Sh!t. I've contacted the GC I purchased from and I should be able to swap when they get more in stock. I'll post a follow-up on how that goes. I'm sure there's more to discover, but mine's back in the box waiting for a replacement to come in, so that's all I have so far. All in all I love the tech, but Mackie needs to work harder to get my 5 star.

  • Wireless Bliss

As reviewed by Tim on 12/1/2014

I had been waiting for Mackie to deliver an option using Android tablets but without that on the horizon, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the purchase. Apple products are fine but they are the more expensive option. I had done my homework and knew what to expect. The updated Master Fader has everything you would want. I put this beast to work right away running it through its paces. The wireless connection is the selling point for this mixer and makes it so much easier for one person to set and save the mix. It does not disappoint! By using the 6 aux sends available individuals can control their own monitor mix. This feature alone sells it for most by eliminating the need for you to adjust someone else's monitor mix. I need more Cow Bell! Well dial it in yourself! The responsiveness of the controls are great. No lag or latency. The layout is intuitive for anyone who has ran an analog mixer before. The visual layout keep the user informed of how each channel is configured through displays. No more guess work. With the built in sound reinforcement tools, reverb, delay, compression, limiter, you will not have to lug around another rack filled with electronics. The only negative I can say about this mixer is not about the mixer but more toward the vision of Mackie. When this mixer came out iPad was the available device/platform and the tray sold with the mixer is for an older generation iPad. Buyer Beware! They gouge you for a new tray to support iPad Air or other newer platforms ($40). Good luck finding an older generation of iPad if you don't want to shell out the $40. Even Mackie does not recommend the older generation iPads due to the upgrades in the Master Fader. Mackie if you are going to partner with Apple keep up with the trends and availability of their products so you can support yours or provide your customers with options for Android devices.
