  • Compact/Versatile Mixer

As reviewed by Jeremy on 12/11/2008

Pros: Great mixer for the price, un-breakable, mackie tough and quality sound. Many different setup options. The best part is that you get a full 16 channels in a rackmount unit. I play in a soul/horn band and need over a dozen inputs and love being able to keep all the connections made in the case to my amps and effects. Makes setups way easier/quicker for live gigs. The manual for this thing is hillarious, really no joke, very funny, way to go mackie! Cons: Not any except I would have liked a monitor/room fader versus the group faders. On this mixer you use aux sends as monitor sends and there is a knob v. a fader. Not any big deal at all. Great mixer!

  • Amazing Mixer

As reviewed by Peter on 2/23/2011

Our school recently got one of these for our auditorium as a replacement for an old wall unit. So far, there have been no problems, though the 3/4-5/6 Auxiliary switch has caused some confusion with students, and the company we got it from set it up wrong. As for sound quality, this thing completely rejects most interference, and the faders are excellent at smooth level control. I actually do not usually like Mackie mixers, due to problems in subgroup functionality and other issues, but this one is an exception, and is comparable to Allen & Heath or Soundcraft quality. All in all, it is a fabulous mixer for our auditorium PA system.

  • disappointing and not road worthy

As reviewed by David Tornatore on 9/13/2011

I have be playing for 50 years now. This my second 1604 VLZ3 board within the last 6 years. I do like everything about the board except its not road worthy which should be the most important thing about any board. It does not stand up to tempeture changes or set up and tear downs. Both boards I owned started intermittent problems. Sometimes the A&B subs worked, sometimes not. Sometimes channels worked, other times not. I would have to bang on the board to get it to work. That would make maybe the sub groups start working but I would always lose a couple of channels or aux controls in the channel. I just sent my board out for repairs but I am going to have to buy another board because I don't trust this one anymore, having no choice but to buy another Mackie because I don't have the time and patience to learn a new board. (At 67 years, learning doesn't come easy anymore)
