NEW REVIEW - A World of Difference

Clarity and headroom: This mixer reproduces every nuance of sound from a mic'd guitar cabinet even at lower volumes. We can now completely control our sound mix from the board. Vocals are much clearer and have more presence. Inputs: We love the 16 phantom powered XLR inputs which can be assigned to sub groups. The board has enough inputs to mic drums, vocals, and instrument cabs all on one board. Simplicity: Follow the procedure in the manual (yep we actually read it) to set each channel level. Raise the slides and they balance perfectly with EACH other. No 'trim tweak' or channel slide adjustments needed to create a professional TIGHT mix! Bottom line: Like many bands on a budget, our first sound board was the lowest cost entry level powered mixer on the market. I cannot knock the brand. It provided an exceptional value and gave us 2 years of faithful service. The trade off for the value came in the form of a "meets minimum requirements" amplified mix which required constant eq/level tweaking before and during the performance. Those days are GONE! The Mackie 1604 VLZ Premium has allowed us to improve our sound quality dramatically with its ability to control and balance each channel with the others with a richness, depth and fidelity we were NEVER able to achieve with our first mixer no matter how hard we tried. This mixer is a remarkable piece of equipment which will pay for itself just in terms of saved and effort setting up for performance. It improves our ability to deliver a truly professional sound performance regardless of the acoustics of any venue from small intimate clubs to large outdoor venues.

Compact/Versatile Mixer

Pros: Great mixer for the price, un-breakable, mackie tough and quality sound. Many different setup options. The best part is that you get a full 16 channels in a rackmount unit. I play in a soul/horn band and need over a dozen inputs and love being able to keep all the connections made in the case to my amps and effects. Makes setups way easier/quicker for live gigs. The manual for this thing is hillarious, really no joke, very funny, way to go mackie! Cons: Not any except I would have liked a monitor/room fader versus the group faders. On this mixer you use aux sends as monitor sends and there is a knob v. a fader. Not any big deal at all. Great mixer!
