Overview

When you run your signal from your instrument to your amp though long cables and/or through a large array of effects with varying impedance, there' bound to be some signal degradation. Placing the MC406 CAE Buffer in your signal chain addresses this issue.

It' a low-noise buffer in a small, rugged housing; it can add up to +6dB of gain with the front-facing gain slider; it makes up for signal loss that can occur when combining effects with different impedance levels; it fine tunes signal recovery with Hi and Lo cut switches; it has an extra output for a tuner, separate effects chain or amp, and can be set to receive either a buffered or unbuffered signal; it also features a convenient 9VDC power output jack which provides power for another pedal.

The MC406 Buffer is truly a mighty utility with a small footprint”an ideal addition to any effects rig or pedal board.

FEATURES

  • Makes up for signal loss that can occur when combining effects
  • Fine-tunes signal recovery with Hi & Lo cut switches
  • Extra output for optional separate unbuffered signal chain

Comments about MXR MC406 CAE Buffer Guitar Effects Pedal:

Nothing negative to say. Simple , big improvement in tone and reliable
... THE UNSUNG HERO OF MY PEDALBOARD.

Been playing for over 35 years and I'm fussy regarding tone. Plenty of $500.00 pedals on my board but this MXR CAE MC406 Buffer remains THE most important part of my signal. When buffers first came out I thought ... Why do I need yet another gain stage to keep in mind ? ... But converting a signal from high impedance to low impedance gave me that " plugged straight into the front of my amp tone ". It's like my signal went from a trickling stream to a rushing river.

Set it and forget it. I'm not a rocket scientist , I'm just a guitar player. Simple is just one less thing to worry about for setting up and tearing down my equipment or for future troubleshooting. Think I got too much treble ... hit a button. Think I got too much bass ... hit a button. I've got the MXR 10 Band EQ pedal further down my signal chain anyway because I don't play $5000.00 guitars anymore. I play higher end amps , usually my Mesa Roadster , and my guitars are all under $1200.00.

To me , anything more than two pedals ( or even one sketchy old pedal ) or more than 10 feet of instrument cable , changes my tone.

Can't recommend it enough. Thank you Custom Audio Electronics and MXR. It has been a complete privilege to audition this equipment and incorporate it permanently into my signal path.

Comments about MXR MC406 CAE Buffer Guitar Effects Pedal:

In my opinion the Hi-low pass is confusing on a buffer so why even put it there at all? I was curious and asked a local guitar store other then Guitar Center of course, and they couldn't answer the question. I was told to go ask my question to the man that built and designed the CAE Buffer. His response to my question regarding the Hi-Low pass was to use the tone knobs on my guitar and not worry about it! This coming from the person who designed the thing tells me to use the tone knob on my guitar. Okay? So still why have a hi-low pass on a buffer.. IMHO buy a TC Electronics Buffer or another good brand name buffer. This one isn't worth a dime!

Comments about MXR MC406 CAE Buffer Guitar Effects Pedal:

This MXR MC406 CAE Buffer made a big difference in my guitar sound....My guitar signal running thru my FX pedal board to my Peavey 6505+ half stack is insanely better than before!!! The sound is much more stronger, tighter and refreshing. This MXR Buffer is a "definite must" for guitar players who use a lot of effect pedals on their board!!!
