Overview

The MXR M288 Bass Octave Deluxe is a dual-voice octave pedal using MXR's 18-volt Constant Headroom Technology (CHT) to provide studio-performance headroom and superior tracking. Use the Dry knob to mix your direct bass signal with the octave effect, or hit the Mid+ switch to add up to +14dB of internally adjustable low-mid punch (400Hz) or midrange pop (850Hz). Bass players love the 2 separately processed and individually voiced octave controls”Growl (for throaty, midrange octave-below tone) and Girth (for deep and smooth octave below). The Bass Octave Deluxe boasts a durable, lightweight aluminum casting and has the same high-quality jacks and switches that make MXR pedals the road-ready standard on pedal-boards around the world.

Constant Headroom Technology
The MXR CHT circuit produces 18-volts of headroom from a single 9-volt battery or external power source. CHT utilizes voltage step-up techniques, which supplies constant 18-volt headroom regardless of source voltage. For example, CHT will produce 18-volt headroom from a used battery down to 4.5-volts and voltages up to 30-volts. CHT also protects against incorrect reverse polarity and AC voltages.

Since the early 1970s
Bass players world-wide rely on MXR pedals to overdrive, funkify, EQ, and compress their bass sound. MXR's commitment to bass players has been solidified by the development of the MXR Bass Innovations division”devoted to developing cutting-edge tools for bassists on stage and in the studio. MXR Bass Innovations products are found on the pedalboards of artists like as Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Leland Sklar (L.A. Studio Veteran), Juan Alderete (Mars Volta), Michael Rhodes (Nashville Studio Ace), and Marcus Miller.

If you want one of the best, most affordable octave pedals out there, this has to be the one. For $150 there is no better deal. The pedal has amazing tracking, and you can throw in some nasty (in a good way), gritty dirt that just sounds awesome. There isn't much to say other than get to the store, try one, and buy one.

When I purchased this pedal, I expected great tone and great tracking, but was very disappointed. The tracking works very well and sounds good on, say, playing a G on the 5th fret on the D string, but if you try to play higher notes on the 10th fret, for example, the tracking completely breaks up. You also cannot use it on lower notes since it produces a lower octave. If you play a low note, the tracking cannot produce an octave below clearly. Due to this fact, this pedal will have limited use for me.

Awesome Sounding Pedal

By Drew

from Flint, MI

Comments about MXR M288 Bass Octave Deluxe Effects Pedal:

I was a little leery to add effects pedals to my bass set-up, until I heard this. This guy gives you an awesome unique sound that will help fill in the missing pieces to your music. I use it on stage through an Aguilar system (amp head, and 2 cabinets). Absolutely no noise! Awesome pedal!

This is THE pedal!

By Rob Norton

from New Orleans, LA

Comments about MXR M288 Bass Octave Deluxe Effects Pedal:

I've had some other octave pedals and an amp with built in octave in the past and did not care for them. This pedal however, sold me on the effect. Great tracking and great sound! The "secret weapon" in my opinion is the mid button, which adds some grindy midrange dirt to the tone. I always use it with this on. MXR really got this one right!

Comments about MXR M288 Bass Octave Deluxe Effects Pedal:

It goes down to the A w/ no prob. But(like most octaves) going past A sounds bad. But it would sound like that if your bass went that low too. Whatever, it sounds great.

Comments about MXR M288 Bass Octave Deluxe Effects Pedal:

This is a quirky effect that will add sub harmonics to your bass lines. The subtone generator is not smooth so this is more of an effect than it is a bass range extender.

5 stars product! It deserve it! Great tracking! Great sound! Once you step on it it is like stepping into different dimension! Powerful boost and color to your shiny moments. I only wish that it has easier battery access. I do not like having to much cables around during perform. Easy battery access like in TC Electronics pedals would be very useful!
