I've had a couple digital delays in the past, but none I've been really impressed with the sound. This analog delay really carries through the warm tone of the first iteration. I also have an MXR Dyna Comp from the 70's that is still one of my main pedals, so I know they are built to last. Simple to use, great sound, solid construction, I'd highly recommend this pedal.

I recently bought this delay pedal for use with my Peavy JSX and my Ibanez RG Prestige with EMG 81/85 s for lead work and soloing, as well as some clean playing as well. The main problem I had with this delay was that the sound (doubled up) on itself too much and the sound was incomprehensible. I know it wasnۡt just the way I set it because I spent hours trying every possible combination.

Holy Water

By Ken

from Cincinnati Ohio

Comments about MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

They should have called this pedal 'The Baptismal', or some such, because it will bathe you in the Holy Water. I love my DD-20, and I have played the RE-20, and have heard that Line-6 thing in action at the hands of a better player than myself many times...but digital delays are good for different things...and they cannot provide the embryonic warmth of an analog delay. If you don't know, try one and let the Holy Mother convert you. I just brought mine home and have lost hours in worship already...

Comments about MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

I bought this pedal about a week ago and am simply astounded. This pedal offers warm, & rich analog delay tones that no other pedal maker can beat. There's lots of different delays you can get out of this pedal, and if you like delay, you must buy it! Don't think twice about getting this, it is totally worth it! Kudos to MXR, for making another brilliant pedal that's worth every penny!

A Great Delay Pedal.

By mayoyo

Comments about MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

I thought I had something when I got the Boss DD-3, and i'll admit it was a great pedal. But this one has something else, it has great tone, and it being totally analog is definetly a plus. I'll roll this one forever in my setup.

WOW!

By Joe

Comments about MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

The MXR Carbon Copy is perfect. I spent about six months looking at delay pedals and this one was the best I found. It is much better then the boss delay pedals, don't get me wrong, boss makes good pedals, but MXR makes better pedals. The best example of what this pedal sounds like is early U2 stuff. Bottom line if you like analog delays you cant go wrong with this one.

Amazing!

By Ted

from San Francisco, CA

Comments about MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

My favorite pedal. It sounds great, It's all analog, and it's not as expensive as lots of other quality delay pedals. Really trippy sounding, sounds great with a chorus pedal, my overdrive pedals sound awesome on it. I only have 4 pedals, This, an Ibanez FatCat distortion from the 80's, An Ibanez chorus pedal (it's really old also), and a boss MT-2 Metal Zone Distortion, and it sounds awesome with all of them. The Mix knob contols the volume of the echoes, the regen controls how many echoes(it can be anywhere from 1 to infinite), and the delay knob controls the speed of the delay. The mod button creates a slight up/down modulation on the pitch. The feedback on this is really fun to mess around with, you can get some really crazy sounds out of it, just turn the regen knob up all the way, though I recommend turning the mix down some 'cause it gets really loud. All in all, this is a great pedal for the price, and is totally worth it.

Great Warm Delay

By Les Paul 4 life

from Unknown

Comments about MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

I was debating whether to get a boss dd-7 or a mxr carbon copy delay, and I went with the carbon copy. This Delay has warm repeats and long delay time for an analog delay. another great feature is the mod switch, which can be adjusted internally. I adjusted the mod switch to brighten my delay tone. the true bypass is great and the pedal is not noisy at all. I have no regrets buying this pedal and it will always stay on my pedalboard.

Very Fun Pedal

By Darren

from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

I own seven MXR pedals and this one is probably my favorite. I play blues mostly, so there aren't alot of songs I use this for but of my time at home jamming, I use this the most cuz it's so fun. What I really like is you can get very subtle and mild delay (example: Rolling Stones - "She's So Cold")perfectly but you can also get heavy soundscaping delay (example: Pink Floyd - this is excellent for many of their songs) The only reason this got a 4 stars instead of 5 stars (besides the fact I rarely give 5 stars) is that the modulation button really doesn't change your sound that much. It does somewhat but nothing to write home about. All in all this is a amazing pedal and it's well worth the purchase.

From just OK to pretty cool

By Chris

from Seattle, WA

Comments about MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

Pros: Cool somewhat low-fi delay effect. Longer delay time for an analog delay of this sort (800ms) Sounds great with Reggae or Dub styles. Interesting self-oscillation. Cons: brittle sounding compared to other delays (memory man, aquapuss etc.) Unpredictable feedback characteristics. Modulation seems to have little or no effect on sound. LEDs are way too bright, almost blinding. Difficult to replicate settings. I find this pedal great for delays which don't need to sit in the mix (like a dub break where the delay sound trails off on its own). This pedal sounds a little bit "on top of" the guitar, as opposed to meshed into the fabric of the sound like the memory man. I find the hype around this pedal mystifying. It's just not as musical to my ear as the others I mentioned above.

Save yourself the trouble and just buy it

By Steve

from Kittanning, PA

Comments about MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

I never buy any pedals without trying different brands and making sure that I buy the best one. If you are looking for a warm, natural sounding delay then buy this pedal. It has the best tone of any analog delay pedal I have every played. It's also very simple to use, easy to tweek, has true-bypass, and of course built like a brick because it's made by MXR. I'll compare this pedal to the Boss DD-7 because it is so popular. First of all, the light on the Carbon Copy is a really bright blue and you can see it for miles (No really, you probably could see it a few miles away). I don't know if it's just me, but on Boss pedals I have a problem seeing their small red light when I'm playing live. But let's get to the sound because that's what is more important here. Its all about what you prefer and it comes down to analog vs digital. The DD-7 does what it's supposed to do and if you like digital delay, then you should probably get the Boss pedal. But if you're like me and like analog there's no better pedal. If you've never tried an analog, buy this... you will not be disapointed! Way Huge's Aqua-Puss delay pedal is very similar to this (they are both made by Dunlop) but I definitely prefer the Carbon Copy. The CC has 600ms of delay time compared to the Aqua-Puss' 300ms, and I just like the tone of the Carbon Copy a little bit better. A few people have complained about the Carbon Copy's delays not being loud enough but I don't see it. It sounds amazing the way it is and you can clearly hear the delay. Also, it is made for cleans, not distortion. It will make your clean channel sound so much better, but you probably won't be able to tell its on on your dirty channels. This is a great pedal by MXR and I would recommend it to anyone no matter what genre they play.
