Adds a very noticable volume boost that is not controllable when on. Pedal hisses and makes strange noises. Unless you are going to use it with a distorted sound its not a very good pedal. No volume control, noticable volume boost, not quiet, not a very good pedal
Bought this over the MXR 10 band eq and the Danelectro Fish and Chips (dont laugh it actually works great!). I use this with my tiny terror since it doesn't have an eq. I have it set in a "smiley" face grin which boost the highs and lows on my Tiny Terror to make it sound big and fatter. Has all the eq bands you need. I only wish it had a volume cut/boost like the 10 band/fish and chips. Small box which can fit anywhere on the board. Great tone shaping tool.
This pedal is awesome for the clean channel. You can hear the major difference with various tweaks that you do, and it easily boosts the tone without loosing any clarity. But as soon as I switch to my crunch channel, this pedal wasn't very useful. It could help get a small amount of boom, or slight mid boost, but I didn't get much from the high frequency range. If this pedal had a true volume and/or gain control, I have no doubt that it would be much more useful. I personally think that it would be worth the extra cash to get the 10 band eq and the extra controls. This pedal does a good job, but doesn't do the whole job.
I've had this for a few months now. Being an MXR, it's probably gonna last me a life time. I can see it all throughout the construction, that this pedal is built very well. Tone wise, it will do almost anything you need. I have an electric guitar and a bass, and it works fine, getting the tone I want for either. my only small complaint is that when you boost frequencies your volume increases along with hum, and when you cut frequencies it lowers your volume. I guess that can also be a plus if maybe want more volume for a solo or something. My point is that this a great pedal for any player of any genre to have. Try It.
I bought this thinking I'd use it as a volume boost for solos. It seems to do that well. I looked at a few boost pedals, but the reviews seemed to suggest they added a bit of overdrive and sounded great, but really didn't add much volume. This pedal does boost the volume a good deal without really changing the sound much. That said, it also seems to boost the noise and whatever else is in your effects chain. It sounds like it adds noise, but that could just be the volume increase. Also, if you just push the levels up equally, it does sound a bit flat. I'm still exploring the sound-shaping functions of it (to give the boost some shape). I'm sure that is my inexperience more than the EQ's fault. Also, I'm running it in my pedalboard in front of the amp (no effects loop). I've heard EQ's are more effective in the effects loop, which could be true, but it works great before the amp as well. You do have to experiment with its placement in the effects chain though. I originally had it first and it was great until I used other pedals, then it disappeared. I've settled on it at the end of the chain, where it seems very effective.
None of that poser crud that doesn't shape your sound at all, this thing DELIVERS, and gives you that extra boost in that specific sound you're going for. This pedal has earned it's rightful place on my pedalboard. The 10-band EQ is good as well, but it's noisy and you're going to need a suppressor. This however, has no unwanted hum, at all. GET THIS PEDAL SOON, you won't regret it, just once you get it, make sure you know how to use it, lol.
If you love to shape your sound. Then adding this to your effects chain is a must. Looking to add a little edge to your sound. You can with this pedal. It really brings your sound around. I guess what I'm trying to say, Is that you can make your guitar sound a little more alive. A great addition indeed. If you wish you had just a little more of something (sound wise) in one of your pedals. This thing will most likely do it.
