I play this with a bass so I can't really vouch on how it sounds on guitar. I set this up in a shootout between the phase 90, the Boss Phase Shifter and some phase samplers on the Pandora multi-effect. The multi-effect was terrible so I'll rule that out... It was more tasteful sounding than the Boss, more warmth but had less features. You can get a phase 90 sound out of the 100 as well as some other sounds. Overall I just liked the pedal best out of the 4. This phaser has two knobs. An interval knob with four settings that clicks into place and the rate knob. Simple yet effective. The knobs come with an honestly ugly rubber cover that allows one to adjust the pedal with only their feet. This is both radical and awesome, as well as tubular. For not many pedals can be adjusted like this and the ones that can are very useful. The four waves consist of pretty much two different sounds, both with a long and short sweep. Going clockwise and starting at the right, the first two wave types are mellow and sound quite like the phase 90. The first having a shorter sweep than the second. The last two have a brighter, more intense, very slightly synthy and cringly icey sound. The third wave's sweep is shorter than the fourth's. The Rate is tasteful, it doesn't slow to a near stop or go so fast all you get is noise. MXR really doesn't like to put a lot of obnoxious, outlandish sounds into their pedals. Compared to EHX and Boss, MXR sometimes seems boring but they are always tasteful and that's what's important when making music. It didn't do anything too fancy, but it's just a very good sounding phase at a reasonable price.

It's very versatile and sounds good clean. I wouldn't say the tone is sucked out, but my levels dropped if I used od/dist after the unit. I tried a reissue to see if they've improved it, but the problem seems to be the same. Maybe they've improved it by now since it was a couple of years ago I tried a reissue. When I use it, I put a distortion pedal in front of it and it sounds good. Mostly now though I use a Phase 90 I bought used at a local shop.

      Durable pedal w/lovely phase effects.

Comments about MXR M-107 Phase 100 Effects Pedal:

I had a Phase 90, but didn't care for the "battery only" layout or the limitations imposed by the speed-only control. This pedal creates marvelous phase effects and offers a lot of control over both the pan width and amplitude- combined with the speed control it offers a very wide range of phasing effects. Plus, it has a power input that liberates the user from those pesky, expensive 9V batteries.

        Great, classic phaser.
No tone suck (with other buffers in line). Simple to use. Practical. Seemingly bulletproof. Tends to lean a little on the bright side....an easy Mod fixes this.
        A little pricey...but it's got the tone.

Comments about MXR M-107 Phase 100 Effects Pedal:

MXR makes the best analog effects in my opninion. This pedal is no exception. A lot of people say they prefer the Phase 90 but I haven't tried it. I bought this because it has 4 different intensity levlels compared to the 90's 1. So I figured it would be more versatile. And I was right. I love this pedal to death. From slow, creamy wooshing, to fast rotary speaker type phase, this thing does it all. It is my favorite effect on my board and definitely the most quality sounding pedal I own. That and my MXR Carbon Copy. Thank you, MXR! Also, it's made in the USA. Can't beat the price.

This pedal easily replaced my Boss PH-3

              By Douglas Stanton

              from Rochester, NH

Comments about MXR M-107 Phase 100 Effects Pedal:

I originally bought the Boss PH-3 to use on my Martin Sigma DM-4S acoustic (w/Fishman RareEarth pickup) but I was never really happy with the sound I was getting from it. I play a lot of classic to contemp folk/rock and what I wanted to hear was more of a vintage sound than the Boss was giving me. The Boss pedal was ok (I'd give it 3.5 stars) but had a noticeable sweep sound when engaged that I couldn't seem to tweak out and a rather sterile (digital!) nuance overall. The MXR Phase 100 is giving me exactly the sound I was looking for - that warm, classic phasing you can only get with analog circuitry. I can easily dial in any phasing effect I'm looking for with no tone or gain drop and it's built to last. I'll be bringing in the Boss PH-3 to trade on a MXR analog chorus pedal, so I guess I can't complain about what I've gotten out of the Boss!
