This classic mustard yellow box has always had its own loud voice in the expansive distortion universe. The magic of the Distortion Plus is the abilty to schizophrenically pull off various personalites of overdrive, distortion, or fuzz depending on the rig you're running through. From the scooped metal madness of Randy Rhoads to the creamy streamlined crunch of Sugar, this box, uhhh, molds itself to the your own equipment and style. MXR spent some quality time and really voiced this one well. So much so that the absense of the typical tone knob isn?'t even missed. By twisting a combination of the gain and level knobs you can effortlessly nail the classic valvey chime of ACDC, the deep dark tone of Van Halen, or the relentless raspiness of Rage Against The Machine. This is the unsung heros of the stompbox world and it's ebb and flow popularity has stood the test of time. This is my best buy in my whole life!! is awesome that this thing just only have 2 knobs and do a lot of things...

Supposed "reissue" of the original Distortion+; except this one sounds terrible. Dull, thin, lifeless distortion. I've tried it in front of a Fender Twin... yuk. In front of a JCM 800 2203... yuk. Into an epiphone tube 10... useless. Plenty reliable, I guess. It just collected dust for month until I sold it to GC... They give me much for it. That right there should tell you how desirable this paperweight is.

Not a Great Pedal

By Dave Gianotto

from Idaho

Sorry,no way this pedal deserves 4 (or let alone 5!) stars. It doesn't compare to the pre-Dunlop original. The tone is not nearly as warm. This has an almost irritating sound. If it was not meant to duplicate the original, then call it something else. It's dependable, it works, it's similar in looks to the original, and it even has a convenient on/off light that was not on the original. But that's it. There are so many better distortion boxes out there.... Shop around!

Just a little different

By max power

from Lockport, IL

I have had four MXR pedals in my rig for years...IMHO, MXR has always made the best sounding and durable pedals. (A couple of the older Ibanez/Maxon pedals are a close second) I bought the new M104 to replace my 1982 M104 that finally died after 30 years of faithful service...R.I.P... It's just not the same awesome sound that my '82 had...and why did MXR have to change the color of it??? As far as reliability, the new M104 seems to be built just as sturdy. I would still recommend this pedal to everyone who doesn't have one...The new M104 delivers that classic sound at a great price. It's jut a little different than my old M104.

uhh

By dante palomba

from new baltimore/mi

I found this pedal in my basment, my dad had bought it in the late 80s and ive been useing it for afew months...its not that great, it sounds way to 80s, this pedal was used by randy roads. if you are in a serious origonal band i wouldnt recommend it.. its not the 80s, get a pedal that will help u get an origonal sound...if your i a cover band that covers ozzy, metalica, and bands like that then its what u need..

Versatile

By Hendrix

from New York, New York

This pedal can do almost anything you want it to. Overdrive, distortion, fuzz, this thing has it all. Placed between my Les Paul and Marshall (what a surprise), this pedal provided just enough gain to bring out all of the little nuances of my playing, without adding too much background hiss. I cascaded it through an LPB-1, and heard a beautiful, soulful wail come out of my sunburst baby. This pedal is worth easily twice what it is being sold for.

A+. Great Simple Pedal.

By Andrew J.

from Chicago, Illinois

The MXR Dist+ is an excellent simple pedal to use. I was a heavy RAT user at one point then this little trusty box came in. I play a lot of Wipers and Husker Du type music so this is a great add on to anyone's pedal set up that's into that sort of thing. If your looking for that Greg Sage, Bob Mould or just a good rock sounding pedal without all the excess saturation involved this is it.

Great Pedal!!!

By Andrew J.

from Chicago, Illinois

This pedal is great. You can play it alone for a solid rock sound or connect your favorite pedal next to it for mixture and blends of distortions and tone. My preferred combo with this unit is the MXR Dist + Rat or MXR Dist + MXR Blue Box. A+

Just what I was looking for

By JD

from Boston, MA

I wanted a pedal to sit in front of my Boss DS-2. I was looking for a dirty tone that also sounded good when you kicked in the distortion. This pedal is working out great.

Definition of Distortion

By The Commodore

from Palmyra, NJ

I was skeptical to think that this could be as vertile a distortion as advertised especially without a tone control. I was wrong. This pedal defines Distortion in its purest form. It ranges from a pushed speaker overdrive to a smooth fuzz cranked up. The distortion does not get in the way either and lets your notes articulate. The output on this pedal works much like simple tube amps with Gain and Volume so you can't just set the output at 12 o clock and play with the drive and this is what separates this pedal from the rest of the field. Distortion is gain and when turned down the output should need to be increased, makes sense... Still not the case with other Distortion pedals out there. What about tone you say? Why do other pedals even need a tone knob? They are built to give a consistent output despite the level of gain or distortion you set it at and that robs your signal of tone and on extreme units compresses your signal. Truth is you get all the tone control you need from your guitar and if you really truely need more EQ use your amp. I highly recommend this pedal. It is at a great price and don't pass up this b/c another unit has more knobs and switches! As is the case with most things in life LESS IS MORE! Rock on.
